Nearing her twentieth anniversary as a recording artist, Suzanne Vega will release Retrospective: The Best of Suzanne Vega tomorrow. The anthology includes songs from her self-titled 1985 debut through 2001's Songs in Red and Gray. In addition to material from her albums, the twenty-one-track collection will include the previously unreleased "Rosemary," a live version of "The Queen and the Solider" and DNA's peppy and popular remix of "Tom's Diner."

Vega will tour in support of the album beginning Wednesday in Annapolis, Maryland. Twenty dates are lined up for the spring, before she heads to Europe. Upon her return, she'll make eighteen additional stops in the U.S., starting July 21st in Bozeman, Montana. Along the way, she'll hook up with Richard Thompson (who played on her 1992 album, 99.9 F) in Northampton, Massachusetts, for an April 30th show, and Leo Kottke on July 26th in Jacksonville, Oregon. Also on the itinerary is a May 18th stop at the Bottom Line in New York City for "Dave van Ronk Day," as deemed by the city's Council. There Vega will read excerpts from Elijah Wald's upcoming book, The Mayer of MacDougal Street, about the late, legendary folk singer, interspersed with songs Van Ronk wrote or recorded. Odetta, Sylvia Tyson, Tom Paxton and David Massengill are among the other performers.

In other Vega news, director Christopher Seufert is also working on a documentary about the singer-songwriter, with plans to have it make the festival rounds in early 2004.
