Disturbed returned to the studio late last month to lay down tracks for their second album, Believe, due out this fall. The band has been working on songs in its hometown of Chicago with Johnny K, who also produced Disturbed's multi-platinum debut, 2000's Sickness.

"We're just going according to the old adage, if it ain't broke, don't fix it," frontman David Draiman says, "rather than uproot ourselves and go some place where we would have to get comfortable all over again and acclimate ourselves to a different producer."

The quartet began writing the album's twelve tracks while on tour last year. "We had some time on the road to start the process and develop a direction to go in," Draiman says. "It was very difficult to do because when you're on tour there's so many distractions. It's hard to stay focused on the songwriting."

Sonically, the band promises greater diversity. "Certain songs on this record are much more aggressive," Draiman says. "There's also a lot more soft vocal on this record, so there's a greater contrast."

Fans in Asia and the U.K. will get to hear the band's new material first, when Disturbed head out on tour later this summer. The band expects to tour the U.S. in the fall.
