Basement Jaxx -- the London dance duo of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe -- are at work on the follow-up to 2001's Rooty. The new album is due next spring.
"[We've been in the studio] just a couple of months," Buxton says. "We've been relaxing, spending time at home kind of racing around, not really DJing, just kind of becoming human beings again to hopefully kind of realize our new message."
The Jaxx have about thirty songs, which will be whittled down to an album's worth of material in time to get the record to their label, Astralwerks, at the end of this year. As with previous efforts, the group is in the process of finding unknown vocalists to appear on the as yet untitled release.
"We're speaking to a couple of people at the moment," Buxton says. "We've got loads of people coming into the studio -- singers and various people, mostly underground people. We're not against using a name, but we'll see."
