Though much talk was made of producer Glen Ballard's role in shaping Alanis Morissette's songcraft, fans will have a chance to see what the singer sounds like without his influence on her next album, to be released June 12th on Maverick. According to her label's Web site, www.maverickrc.com/alanis, Morissette has written, produced and arranged the as-of-yet-untitled album entirely by herself and it will have a "harder, edgier sound."

Before she headed into a Los Angeles studio to work on her follow-up to 1998's Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, Morissette told RollingStone.com that she looked forward to going it alone. "I'm trying out different chord changes, trying to be relatively spontaneous," she said. "I always want to stretch and scare myself. And it'll just have to form itself, be a snapshot of where I am, at the moment."
