(LOS ANGELES) - Cake, the Sacramento-based band that looks to be on the verge of stardom, was forced to cancel its American tour, due to the illness of bandleader John McCrea. The tour, scheduled to begin Wednesday in Minneapolis, would have covered 15 dates over one month. McCrea has been diagnosed with fatigue and extreme exhaustion, according to the band's label, Capricorn Records. According to the label, McCrea had been fighting what appeared to be the flu for the last few weeks; when his symptoms persisted, his doctors ordered him to take time off. "He has been touring almost constantly for the last year, in the States, Europe and Japan, and it took its toll," a label source said. Carol Burnham, Capricorn's vp Publicity, said McCrea's condition will not effect the marketing or promotion of Cake's platinum-selling Fashion Nugget. McCrea is expected to make a full recovery.
