Until now all we knew about the MTV Video Music Awards was that comedian Chris Rock would host the show. But today all that has changed.| MTV announced the nominees at a press conference early Tuesday, and it looks like this year's awards will have a lot of fierce competition.

Jamiroquai may walk out the big winner, however, since their video for "Virtual Insanity" was nominated nine times including "Best Video of the Year" and "Best New Artist In A Video." Beck was a close second with seven nominations that may garner him the title "Best Male Video." Other nominees worth mentioning: Trent Reznor, Jewel and Prodigy may also take home the MTV statuette.

U2, Spice Girls and Beck are already slated to perform during the show, which takes place September 4 at Radio City Music Hall in New York. (AB)
