Velvet Underground co-founder John Cale will haul his extensive musical catalog out on the road this summer for a series of rare performances with the Creatures, a Goth-rock band featuring Siouxsie Sioux and Budgie. |

The underground rock pioneer plans to share the stage with Siouxsie and the Banshees' former singer and drummer while they play alongside new bandmates in the Creatures later this month in Mexico City. The co-headlining gig will wind its way through the U.S. until August, dazzling longtime fans of both bands with rare collaborations and impromptu duets along the way.

A prolific producer, Cale first worked with Siouxsie and the Banshees in 1995, when he produced five tracks for the London punk band's final album, Rapture. Friends ever since, the artists have discussed touring together for quite some time, a spokeswoman for Cale told JAMTV on Monday.

The informal tour will feature no explicit headliner or opener, but will shift between unconventional, relaxed sets by both Cale and the Creatures, the spokeswoman said.

In the last year alone, Cale has produced albums for Jesus Lizard and Squeeze as well as some lesser-known acts, and released his last solo effort -- Walking on Locusts -- in 1996. (Anni Layne)
