(NEW YORK) - Do-it-yourself singer/songwriter Ani DiFranco has hit the big time, despite her insistence on being independent to the core.|

Last August, she shared a stage with Bob Dylan, and, on Feb. 17, the label she started at age 20, Righteous Babe Records, will ship 250,000 units of her latest album, Little Plastic Castle, just to keep up with demand.

DiFranco says, "The music I write tends to reflect what's happening in my life at the time," and the new set is no exception. "This album has a lot of improvisation . . . There is a wide range of subject matter, but it still concentrates on human relations," she says.

The title track was shipped to college, triple-A, modern AC, and modern rock stations in December.
