Kula Shaker will take a trip back to their roots on July 24 when they team up with quintessential Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar. The date marks the 50th anniversary of the independence of India and Pakistan, and Shankar and the British-born musicians will celebrate with a free concert in Birmingham, England, which the BBC will broadcast throughout the U.K.
Since this event will focus on classical music, Kula Shaker will
depart from their normal drums and guitar playing and move toward a
more traditional Indian sound with the use of such instruments as
sitar, tampura and tabla. The concert is a way for the band to
express their love and interest for India. (AB)
