"Copacetic" Chicago rock duo Local H are currently wrapping up work on their third major label album in an Atlanta studio. |
The disc, tentatively titled Pack Up The Cats, will spawn its first single on July 26 and will likely hit stores in August, Steve Smith, the band's manager, told JAMTV on Tuesday. Guitarist/vocalist Scott Lucas and drummer Joe Daniels recorded the album over the course of six weeks in Arizona with Stone Temple Pilots/Talk Show member Dean DeLeo contributing guitar solos on one track.
For this latest project, Local H teamed up with engineer Nick Didia, whose past credits include Pearl Jam and Rage Against the Machine, and producer Roy Thomas Baker, who has worked with Queen, Journey and the Cars. This mix of genres and backgrounds contributed to the fresh sound of the upcoming disc, Smith said.
"It's still Local H, and it's still rock 'n' roll, but the band has reached a new level of songwriting," he said. "They basically put together another amazing album."
Local H plans to headline an American tour in September, but has
not started talking about opening bands yet. The twosome has come a
long way since jamming after high school in Zion, Ill., during the
late '80s. Two years after signing with Island
Records, Lucas and Daniels scored heavy MTV and radio
rotation with "Bound for the Floor" [a.k.a. the "copacetic song"]
off the album As Good As Dead. (Anni Layne)
