James Iha, guitarist for the Smashing Pumpkins, is set to perform two exclusive shows next week.|
The first show will take place on Monday at the Top Note Theatre at Metro in Chicago. This historic theater has a capacity of 100 people and only 60 tickets will be sold; priced at $12, those tickets go on sale this Friday at 6 p.m. (EST)
Although many artists consider this tiny room to be haunted, the Pumpkins, Smoking Popes, Liz Phair, Dave Pirner and Dan Murphy (Soul Asylum), Ian McCulloch (Echo & the Bunnymen) and Guns N' Roses all have spent a considerable amount of time either performing or rehearsing in the Top Note, according to a spokesman for the venue.
The second -- and only other confirmed show -- is scheduled for Tuesday night at New York's Mercury Lounge. Those tickets have already gone on sale and (obviously) sold out.
Iha will be backed by one-time Pumpkin Matt Walker on drums, Solomon Snyder on bass, Neal Casal on vocals and electric guitar and John Ginty on keyboards. A spokeswoman for the Pumpkins told JAMTV that Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan is currently on vacation and is not expected to show up.
Tune in next week for a full report from the Top Note show. (Ari
