breaks up

Following a year and a half hiatus, Lush has officially decided to call it quits.|

The English band who formed in 1988, took some time off after their drummer, Chris Acland, committed suicide at his parents house in England's Lake District. The breakup didn't come as a surprise since the band has been quiet for some time. Now, Lush's singers, Emma Anderson and Miki Berenyi, are "writing and having fun working on solo material," a spokesman from 4AD Records told JAMTV.

Phil King, the band's bassist, has signed on with the Jesus and Mary Chain to support them on their upcoming U.S. tour, a spokeswoman from Sub Pop confirmed.

Lush released three albums during their career; the last, Lovelife, was released in March of 1996. (Ari Bendersky)
