Rapper Stanley "Flesh-N-Bone" Howse was sentenced to twelve years in prison Friday (Sept. 22), following his conviction on charges of assault with a rifle. The conviction stems from an incident last December in which Howse pulled an AK-47 assault rifle and threatened a friend.
Howse's attorney argued that his client was the victim of
"horrendous childhood trauma" in an effort to earn a lighter
sentence for Howse. Van Nuys, Calif. Superior Court Judge Darlene
Schempp could have handed the rapper a sentence of nineteen years
in prison, but chose twelve because of documents confirming Howse's
abusive childhood. "This is one of the worst cases I've read in
terms of childhood abuse," Schempp said.
Schempp handed down a ten-year-sentence for the assault charge and
an additional two years because the weapons charge violated his
probation from a 1998 incident. Schempp suggested that Howse's term
be spent at a mental facility in Northern California, but that
decision will ultimately be made by prison officials.
Howse's solo debut as Flesh-N-Bone, 5th Dog Let Loose, is
still scheduled for release on Oct. 10, but there has been no word
yet about the future of the Grammy-winning Bone
Thugs-N-Harmony, who issued the platinum
BTNHResurrection last year.
