"Ozark Melody," a jaunty song about alien abduction, features music by Frederick Reed and Buckley, with lyrics by Joe Tripician. The track, which can be heard here, will not befeatured on Buckley's posthumous album, Sketches (For My Sweetheart, the Drunk), a 2-CD collection of studio recordings and demos that Columbia Records will release May 19.
A spokesperson from Columbia insists that the Internet-exclusive recording has no commercial intent. "As Jeff's many friends in New York could tell you, Jeff did a lot of things not for money, but for having fun." The source adds that the song was posted because "[Buckley's] mom found it and was tickled by it. She wanted other people to be able to hear it, too."
Buckley, the son of troubadour Tim Buckley,
drowned in a Memphis marina last June. He was 30 years old.
