In case you haven't noticed, some of the year's best hip-hop has been available on vinyl and MP3. Without an MP3 player or a set a 1200's some of these releases would be hard to cop|. Thanks to two new compilations, these releases are now widely available.
Strength Magazine, a Cincinnati-based skate rag known for its
satirical take on the culture, is releasing Subtext through
London/FFR. The comp, which hit stores Tuesday, features
tracks from MCs such as Planet Asia, Del and Aceyalone and hot DJ's
tracks from The J-Rocc and Babu, A-Trak and Rob Swift featuring
Gudtyme. For the four-urethane wheel rollers there are interludes
from pro skaters Julio De La Cruz, Robbie Ganjemi, Stevie Williams
and Chico Brenes.
The second compilation comes from the folks at Cductive.com. Sort
of like an underground Musicmaker.com, Cductive offers fans the
opportunity create their own CDs from their selection of MP3s.
Their ten-track sampler, Rare and Rugged: Hip-Hop on the
Cductive.com Tip, features tracks such as Pumpkinhead's
"Dynamic Remix" and Bad Meets Evil's (Royce the 5'9 and Eminem)
"Scary Movies" previously only available on vinyl.
The ten-track CD is available only through their website for $9.99.
If you don't like their choice of tracks you can download
individuals MP3 songs as little as $0.99 a pop or personalize your
own CD (up to 72 minutes in length) for $4.99 for the first track
and $0.99 for others. Some free MP3 tracks from labels such as
Ninja Tunes can be included on CDs. Adam Matthews
