(NEW YORK) - Bad Religion will be using its success to influence young lives by sponsoring an academic scholarship and demo tape competition. |
The Atlantic act will award a $3,000 grant to a high school or college student interested in studying cultural and physical science; applications for the award will be reviewed by Bad Religion lead vocalist Greg Graffin, who is working toward his Ph.D at Cornell University.
The band will announce the winner during this summer's Van's Warped tour, which it will headline.
In addition, the group will have a tent at the Warped tour where amateur acts may drop off demo tapes. The band promises to listen to each tape and choose a winner a few weeks after the tour's conclusion. The winner will receive a demo deal with Atlantic Records, although it is unknown whether the group will produce the winner's record. The tent will also feature Bad Religion's pirate radio station, where the act will be playing music from some of their favorite signed and unsigned bands.
Bad Religion's newest album, No Substance, comes out
May 5 on Atlantic. The band will kick off a U.S. club jaunt April
29 in Anaheim, Calif., before joining the Warped tour June 30 in
Phoenix. The Warped outing will go to Europe starting in August;
Bad Religion will headline that leg as well.
