"Because everyone wants to shake your hand. If someone gets sick and they've already bought a ticket to a show, they're not going to miss it. And if they run into you they're still going to want to take a picture and cough on the hand. I put hand sanitizer on right in front of their face. There's no shame in that."

"I bring as much underwear as I possible can. The secret to a rock and roll tour packing is to fill your bag with all your pairs of underwear and use whatever room you have left for some jeans and some t-shirts."

"I've got a five-month-old and a wife so video chatting with them is amazing and indispensible. I try to talk to them everyday and to have the visual element is incredible."

"There's a cat that seems to follow me around that sits in my bass drum for the whole show - it's a stuffed cat, and my son was very interested in it until he felt it. That seems to turn up everywhere. Otherwise, no. There used to be my Converse, those things I couldn't play without, but I've managed to find some other shoes that I can actually play in now. "We all bring laptops with us. Musical ideas are collected and shared. Of course it keeps you in touch. Movies are watched. You get online and you read the NYT. It pretty much covers a wide range of necessity from jotting down a musical idea to e-mailing or watching a film. The only thing that comes to mind that's out of the norm is I need almond milk. It's the base of my protein shakes and it's the milk for my cereal. It's not very exciting!"

Are there essential items you need to have with you on the road?
"My secret weapon is oregano oil. It's amazing. It's super expensive. This little vial for like $60. But if you're getting sick or anything, it's kind of a cure. If you're getting sick or mentally sick."

Is it sort of like echinacea?
It is, but it's stronger. You put a few drops on your tongue and you can't eat or drink for an hour afterwards, and it kind of burns your whole insides. But then you feel amazing afterwards.

Do you take it only when you feel like you're getting sick?
I take it here and there as needed. And I got a b-12 shot the other day, in the ass. Which was kind of exciting. Felt like I was in the Doors.
