COURTNEY LOVE will give readers some insight into her life -- from her childhood, to her marriage, to KURT COBAIN, to her career after his death -- when she releases Dirty Blonde: The Diaries of Courtney Love. The book will contain letters, school documents, poetry, journal entries, fliers, never-before-seen-photos, including shots of Love and Cobain, and song lyrics, all accompanied by Love's hand-written notes. Among the items included is a journal entry made just days after Cobain's 1994 suicide in which the singer writes, "Exactly one month ago today was the last time I made love with my husband. I cooked him dinner. We spent four hours in the playroom with Frances. We saw Schindler's List. It made us frightened for life and we saw the value of life. Our convictions we defined until 4 a.m. and we fell asleep in each others arms and woke up that way in the morning."
Beck Readies Another New Album
The ever-prolific BECK announced through his Web site last week that his third album in two years is complete, tentatively set for release this fall. According to Beck.com, the as-yet-untitled album was produced by NIGEL GODRICH, whose previous credits include 2005's Guero and 2002's Sea Change.
Paris Hilton Trades Stilettos for Dreadlocks
Hotel heiress and professional celebrity PARIS HILTON's new album will be a mix of pop, hip-hop and reggae, according to the aspiring singer's interview with Hong Kong's Prestige magazine. The as-yet-untitled album's first single, "Stars Are Blind," which will show off Hilton's reggae chops, is slated for release in June, and a video has already been shot in Malibu. The full album, for which Hilton reportedly co-wrote seven tracks, isn't expected until later this year. According to Hilton, it will include a cover of ROD STEWART's disco-tinged "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy."
Matchbox Twenty Donate to Hurricane Victims
ROB THOMAS and his bandmates in MATCHBOX TWENTY have donated $200,000 to help Gulf Coast music-education programs get back on their feet after the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. The money, which was given to the Consortium for Worker Education -- a federally organized agency established to help displaced workers after 9-11, which has now begun assisting the resettlement of the Gulf Coast -- will be used to hire new music teachers, purchase instruments and equipment for students, create a standard music curriculum and provide private lessons where school-based music programs are unavailable, in addition to aiding the agency's ongoing efforts in New York. In addition, Thomas will continue the fundraising efforts during his summer tour, with all donations to be administered by the CWE.
Snow Patrol Cancel Dates
British rock trio SNOW PATROL have cancelled a pair of Washington D.C. and Boston gigs after frontman Gary Lightbody was diagnosed with laryngitis and advised to take a break from performing. It is unclear whether any further dates will be postponed. In a post on Snow Patrol's Web site, Lightbody told fans that the band hopes to reschedule the canceled performances for the end of the tour but will add them to an August promotional tour if they are unable to do so. He also had this to add, "Some of you may come to the conclusion that this is because we're a party band and we're out every night getting messed up. Yes we like a drink. I however have taken it reasonably easy since Feb in that department and I haven't been drinking on this US tour at all and I've every intention of not partying for the duration of it. In fact, I've been in the gym every morning and eating right."
Tegan and Sara Urge Fans "Don't Do It!"
Canadian twin-sister act TEGAN & SARA, part of NEIL YOUNG's Vapor Records, will release a DVD documentary entitled It's Not Fun. Don't Do It! on August 8th. Included on the disc will be a Toronto performance at the Pheonix in its entirety, a documentary shot by the folk rockers on the road, all the duo's music videos and the making of their 2004 album So Jealous, which has earned them spots opening for the Killers and performing at this year's Coachella and Lollapalooza festivals.
