From Keys to the Streets
Alicia to Star With ScarlettALICIA KEYS is set to appear in the Hollywood adaptation of The Nanny Diaries, the best-selling novel about the nanny of a wealthy New York family. SCARLETT JOHANSSON has been cast as the nanny, and Keys will play her best friend. Keys also appears in the upcoming Smokin' Aces -- alongside BEN AFFLECK, ANDY GARCIA, JEREMY PIVEN and RAY LIOTTA -- as an assassin hired by the mob to kill a police informant . . . Three-time Grammy winner WYCLEF JEAN will play a taxi driver in One Last Thing, a film about the final weeks of a young man who is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Jean, whose father was a cab driver, also wrote the song "Heaven's in New York" for the final credits of the film, which opens May 5th.
Arrest Warrant Issued for the Game
A warrant for the arrest of the GAME has been issued after the rapper missed a court date on March 28th in Greensboro, North Carolina. The West Coast gangsta rapper faces charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest stemming from an October incident in which he and his associates behaved disruptively during an autograph signing at the Four Seasons Town Center mall. The Game, whose debut, The Documentary, sold more than half a million copies in its debut week, was released later that day on $500 bail.
Incubus Unplug for Human Rights
INCUBUS will host Make Some Noise, an acoustic benefit show for human rights organization Amnesty International. The April 29th performance will be held at the Roseland Theater in Portland, Oregon, and be hosted by actress MIRA SORVINO, ambassador for Amnesty's Stop Violence Against Women campaign. In addition, autographed Incubus items are currently up for auction through the Make Yourself Foundation -- a non-profit organization founded and funded by the band to supports various causes -- at makeyourselffoundation.org.
Joe Strummer, Gram Parsons Docs Hit
Let's Rock Again, a documentary chronicling the life of CLASH frontman JOE STRUMMER, will be released on DVD June 27th. The film traces Strummer's time with the Clash through his life after the band's 1986 breakup with interviews, live performances and backstage footage recorded in the eighteen months prior to Strummer's 2002 death . . . In more rock film news, Fallen Angel, a documentary about the life of influential country-rock pioneer GRAM PARSONS, member of the BYRDS and the FYING BURRITO BROTHERS, is slated for release later this year.
LL Cool J Goes Platinum
Rapper and actor LL COOL J will continue branching out when he publishes his own fitness book, LL Cool J's Platinum Body, next January. The book, which the rapper co-wrote with his personal trainer Dave "Scooter" Honig, features bronze, silver, gold and platinum fitness level workouts for men and women. The rapper's latest album, Todd Smith, hit stores this week.
Poison Celebrate Twenty Years with Tour
In support of their career-spanning hits compilation, The Best of POISON: 20 Years of Rock, the hair metal band will kick off a fifty-two-date summer tour on June 13th in Mankato, Minnesota. Joining Poison on most stops of the trek will be fellow metal rockers CINDERELLA. On May 23rd, a limited-edition expanded CD/DVD of The Best of will hit stores -- and include access to special deals on tour tickets.
The Streets, Lady Sovereign Team Up
British rapper the STREETS (a.k.a. MIKE SKINNER) will tour the U.S. this summer with fellow U.K. MC LADY SOVEREIGN. The trek starts June 7th in Seattle, and includes stops at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tennessee, and Chicago's Intonation Music Festival, before wrapping in New York on June 27th. The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living, the Streets' third album, drops April 25th.
