From Springsteen to Sparxxx
Springsteen Plays for Taylor, N.O.Five-time nominee BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN (for Devils and Dust), ELVIS COSTELLO, BONNIE RAITT, the EDGE and gospel singer SAM MOORE will accompany New Orleans musicians ALLEN TOUSSAINT, DR. JOHN and IRMA THOMAS in a tribute to the Crescent City at this Wednesday's 48th Annual Grammy Awards. FIONA APPLE, SHERYL CROW and STING have also been added as presenters for the ceremony, airing live on CBS from Los Angeles' Staples Center. Springsteen was also among the artists -- including Raitt, Crow, John and Sting -- at Monday night's Grammy week kick-off, the 2006 MusiCares Person of the Year ceremony, honoring JAMES TAYLOR. While Sting played an acoustic cover of Taylor's "Close Your Eyes," Springsteen covered Taylor's "Millworker" . . . In other Springsteen news, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND THE E STREET BAND's 1975 concert from London's Hammersmith Odeon is available through music downloading services beginning this Tuesday. The concert, previously only available as part of the Born to Run anniversary box set, hits stores as a live, double-disc package on February 28th.
3 Doors Down Singer Sidelined
3 DOORS DOWN frontman BRAD ARNOLD was injured as a passenger in a one-car accident last week on a rural Mississippi road near his home. Arnold suffered bruises and received stitches for several severe lacerations to his face. The band was forced to postpone last Friday's concert in Mount Pleasant, Mississippi, and cancel their Bud Bowl performance in Detroit last Sunday. (NICKELBACK replaced the band for that event). Arnold is currently at home and expected to make a full recovery. The cancelled Mississippi date will be rescheduled in the near future.
B.B. Offers Guitar for Dog
B.B.KING is offering an autographed copy of one of his signature "Lucille" guitars in return for his lost white female Maltese dog. Lucille, named after the blues legend's guitar series, wandered off ten days ago while under care of his co-manager in West Hollywood, California. King, who turned eighty in September, is currently touring North America and will make his next stop on Thursday in St. Louis.
Massive Attack Hit Coachella
MASSIVE ATTACK have been added to the April 30th mainstage lineup for the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, slated for April 29th and 30th in Indio, California. Scheduled to play just before headliners TOOL, the hard rockers have not performed in the U.S. for eight years. Their retrospective two-CD set, Collected, is due April 4th. DAFT PUNK, TED LEO AND THE PHARMACISTS and EAGLES OF DEATH METAL have also been added to the festival's lineup.
Cube to "Cry Later"
ICE CUBE releases his seventh solo album, Laugh Now, Cry Later on June 6th on his own Lench Mob Records. Veteran rappers SNOOP DOGG and WC guest on the ex-N.W.A. MC's eighteen-track album, which also boasts production from beat-wizards LIL JON, SCOTT STORCH and SWIZZ BEATZ. The record's first single will be the Storch-produced "Why We Thugs," which confronts drug and gun policies.
Stewart's Songbook Hits Sirius
ROD STEWART will host an hour-long segment showcasing his Great American Songbook recordings February 12th on Sirius Satellite Radio. In addition to playing songs from the series' latest installment, Thanks for the Memory: The Great American Songbook, Vol. IV, the legendary singer will DJ and discuss personal favorites by FRANK SINATRA, BILLIE HOLIDAY, LOUIS ARMSTRONG and more. The show will also be rebroadcast February 13th and 14th.
Hall and Oats Meet Will and Grace
DARYL HALL and JOHN OATES, better known as the pop duo HALL AND OATES, will guest on Thursday's episode of the NBC comedy, Will and Grace. In the episode, dubbed "The Definition of Marriage," the famous singers (as themselves) are hired to be the band for Grace's (DEBRA MESSING) wedding.
Built to Spill Put It in Reverse
Indie rockers BUILT TO SPILL will release their first album in five years, You in Reverse, on April 11th. The Sixties-inspired album features Built's new guitarist JIM ROTH, as well as organ by QUASI's SAM COOMES. Album cuts include "Traces," 'Liar," "Saturday" and the single "Goin' Against Your Mind," currently available at most digital music stores.
Kids Love Green Day, Mariah
GREEN DAY and MARIAH CAREY have each scored two of Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards nominations. GWEN STEFANI's "Hollaback Girl," CIARA"s "1,2 Step," Carey's "We Belong Together" and Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September Ends" are competing in the Favorite Song category; while Carey was also nominated for Favorite Female Singer, up against KELLY CLARKSON, HILARY DUFF and ALICIA KEYS. BOW WOW, JESSE MCCARTNEY, NELLY and WILL SMITH all received Favorite Male Singer nods; while the BACKSTREET BOYS, BLACK EYED PEAS, DESTINY'S CHILD and GREEN DAY will duke it out for Favorite Music Group. JACK BLACK hosts this year's show, airing live from Los Angeles on April 1st.
Bubba Sparxxx Has the Charm
BUBBA SPARXXX drops his third album, The Charm, April 4th off Purple Ribbon, the record label helmed by OUTKAST's BIG BOI. The follow-up to 2003's Deliverance includes the tracks "Hey" (produced by longtime collaborator TIMBALAND), "Ms. New Booty" (with the YING YANG TWINS), "As the Rim Spins" and "The Other Side" (with PETEY PABLO).
