From R. Kelly to the Streets
Kelly Finds Soul in "Closet"R. KELLY leads the 20th Annual Soul Train Music Awards list of nominees with three nods: best male R&B/soul album for TP.3 Reloaded, best male R&B/soul single and best R&B/rap music video for "Trapped in the Closet (Chapter 1 of 5)." Kelly will also be presented with the ceremony's first STEVIE WONDER Award for his career achievements in songwriting, to be presented by Wonder, while DESTINY'S CHILD and JAMIE FOXX will be recognized for their career achievements by QUINCY JONES. GWEN STEFANI, MISSY ELLIOTT, MARIAH CAREY, KANYE WEST, the BLACK EYED PEAS, BOBBY VALENTINO, KEYSHIA COLE, CHARLIE WILSON and JOHN LEGEND have each been tapped for two awards, with Legend also set to receive the 2006 SAMMY DAVIS JR. Entertainer of the Year award. The Soul Train Music Awards, celebrating artists in R&B, hip-hop, rap and gospel music, will be presented at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California, on March 4th.
Good Charlotte Go to the Movies
After being the subject of the documentary Fast Future Generation, which recently debuted during the Sundance Film Festival, GOOD CHARLOTTE's BENJI and JOEL MADDEN have formed a film production company called Fast Future Films. The film's director, Nylon magazine founder Marvin Scott Jarrett, will team with the Maddens to develop youth-orientated feature films. The first project, a thriller titled Valley of the Damned, will begin filming this spring.
Sheryl, Fergie Strut the Catwalk
SHERYL CROW, BLACK EYED PEAS' FERGIE, BLONDIE's DEBBIE HARRY, CHRISTINA MILIAN, THALIA and LEE ANN WOMACK walked the catwalk in designer gowns at the Heart Truth Red Dress Collection Fashion Show on Friday, the first day of Fashion Week in New York's Bryant Park. The annual fashion event promotes heart disease awareness among women.
Sambora Has a Lousy Day
After eleven years together actress HEATHER LOCKLEAR, 44, has filed for divorce from BON JOVI guitarist RICHIE SAMBORA, 46. Locklear, who was previously married to MOTLEY CRUE drummer TOMMY LEE, cited irreconcilable differences and requested physical custody of her and Sambora's only child together, eight-year-old daughter Ava Elizabeth. This was Sambora's first marriage. Bon Jovi is on tour through mid-March behind their latest album, Have a Nice Day.
Depeche Mode Feel You
DEPECHE MODE have begun rolling out additional dates in the U.S around their headlining gig at the Coachella festival, scheduled for April 29th in Indio, California. The New Wave stalwarts, currently touring Europe in support of their latest album, Playing the Angel, will play San Francisco on April 27th and Las Vegas on the 30th. More dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
Hipsters Hit the Road
Montreal indie rockers WOLF PARADE kick off a two-week East Coast tour in continued support of their debut, Apologies to Queen Mary, in Boston on April 7th . . . Fellow Canadian (and NEW PORNOGRAPHERS stray) NEKO CASE will play a handful of solo shows in support of her upcoming solo effort, Fox Confessor Brings the Flood, due March 7th: March 30th in Milwaukee; April 6th and 7th in New York, and April 12th and 13th in Carrboro, North Carolina . . . British troubadours the WEDDING PRESENT are launching a nineteen-date North American tour in support of 2005's Take Fountain, their first album in more than eight years. The trek begins February 17th in San Diego and wraps March 13th in Minneapolis . . . And new British buzz band the SUBWAYS will headline their first major North American tour, with twenty stops beginning March 1st in Atlanta. Young For Eternity, their debut album, comes out February 14th.
Nick Finds Life After Jessica
NICK LACHEY's new single, "What's Left of Me," off his as-yet-untitled upcoming album, premieres this week through AOL Music. The song, available as a download, is his first release since Lachey's split with wife JESSICA SIMPSON last December.
Tupac Gets Waxed
TUPAC SHAKUR will be immortalized in wax at Las Vegas' Madame Tussauds as part of their "On Stage" performers exhibit, opening April 5th. Also on display will be the likenesses of BONO, PRINCE, MICK JAGGER, ELTON JOHN, JAMES BROWN, LITTLE RICHARD, BILLY IDOL and ELVIS.
The Streets Take the Hard Way
MIKE SKINNER, a.k.a. the STREETS, releases his third studio album, The Hardest Way to Make a Living, on April 25th. The follow-up to 2004's A Grand Don't Come for Free features the British hip-hopper's most autobiographical lyrics to date. The Streets are planning a U.S. tour to kick off in June.
