Courtney Love Lives Through It

This cover image, shot just months after Kurt Cobain killed himself, captures rocker (and new widow) Courtney Love during one of the darkest years of her life. Music, she tells David Fricke in this interview for our 1000th issue, helped her pull herself together: Live Through This, her critically acclaimed album with Hole, was released just days after the Nirvana singer's death.

"I would go to madness right now if I didn't have these songs," Love confesses.

The rocker -- after a tempestuous couple of years battling to regain her sobriety and teenage daughter with Cobain, Francis Bean -- is finally at work on a new album, with Billy Corgan and Moby.
