Jagger Examines Fame's Dark Side

The Stones frontman remembers hawking his wares to teeny-bopper rags

ONLINE EXCLUSIVE

This will probably come as no surprise, considering he's rock & roll royalty and all, but Mick Jagger has been on more Rolling Stone covers than any other artist (more than fifteen). Of course, there once was a time when the Stones would entertain photo shoot offers from every section at the newsstand -- from women's magazines to teen bibles. "To be popular, you had to be in everything," he admits to David Fricke in an interview for our 1000th issue.

One photographer Jagger actually enjoyed the company of was RS vet Annie Leibovitz, whom he calls "very casual, good-humored." One of her early Jagger shots, from the summer of 1978, is immortalized in the baby-blue cover at the right.
