DeMint to Tea Baggers: “Melt” Blanche Lincoln’s Phone Lines

10/23/09, 2:51 pm EST

The wild and wooly battle over health care reform now features Senator-on-Senator AstroTurfing.

Today, Sen. Jim DeMint sent out an email for the Senate Conservatives Fund, calling on right-wing activists to “melt” the phone lines of fence-sitting Democratic senators, in particular one Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Arkansas).

Rolling Stone broke the news of this campaign to Lincoln’s staff, but her press team had no comment. DeMint’s staff did not return a call seeking comment.

Here’s the email in question:

Subject: It’s time to melt their phones!
Date: Fri, 23 Oct 2009 12:37:17 -0400 (EDT)
From: Sen. Jim DeMint
Reply-To: info@senateconservatives.com

SCF UPDATE

It’s Time to Melt Their Phones

Last week, we identified eight swing-vote Democrats in the Senate who need to be pressured to vote against ObamaCare. Many of you made phone calls to their offices urging them to vote against “cloture” on the heath care bill. Now we need to turn up the heat and melt their phones.

Starting next week, SCF will begin targeting these Democrats with web ads like the one shown here. We’re going to drive hundreds of calls into their offices each day from people who live and vote! in their states. Nationwide contacts are good but nothing is more powerful than local phone calls from constituents.

Please make a contribution to the SCF today to help us keep these ads running strong. A $25 contribution will result in up to 40 personal calls into their offices. A $100 contribution will initiate up to 160 calls. The health care bill won’t likely be on the Senate floor for a couple weeks but the backroom deals are being cut now.

UPDATE: DeMint spokesman Wesley Denton emails that his boss is merely “encouraging folks who like their health care” to “call their senator and voice their opinion.”

DeMint is a creepy little pimp for industry, always has been, always will be.

Jobless | 10/24/2009, 12:22 pm EST

Yeah, what good is a Senator who is a pimp for business when unemployment is over 10%.

Anonymous | 10/24/2009, 5:52 pm EST

perhaps if you understood that greed caused that joblessness, and that an improper compensation for hard work left them incapable or sustaining themselves through joblessness, you wouldn’t think him such a hero.

Conservative | 10/24/2009, 6:44 pm EST

Thanks Rolling Stone for the article. You’re a great help for getting the word out there on this.

StreetKid | 10/25/2009, 8:46 am EST

So why are we doing the same thing to HIM? And for that matter, why aren’t WE meeting in Washington, DC EVERY WEEKEND and letting the DINO’s see what the people REALLY want? Why aren’t the American people out there in the streets DEMANDING HEALTH CARE UNTIL THERE ARE SO MANY OF US EVEN FOX HAS TO COVER US!!! BECAUSE IT WOULD SO GLARINGLY OBVIOUS IF THEY DIDN’T THEY WOULD SHOWN FOR THE FRAUDS THEY ARE????? I’m just asking, and I’m willing and ready and waitng for the direction. These right wingers should so glad I don’t have the organizational skills to pull this off because I would be their worst nightmare!!!

Same old shlock from Dickinson. This is not newsworthy…run of the mill ra-ra partisanship. With so many pressing issues, it’s stunning that the best someone with the voice-amplification that Dickinso has that he would waste his time on something so inconsequential.

Wild Man of the Delta | 10/26/2009, 7:37 am EST

Most of the folks who “VOTE” for Blanch, already have Private Health Insurance. Now those folks who don’t have Health Insurance that Blanch represents,, well they don’t vote unless properly motivated, i/e ” If My Guy Wins You Get A Shopping Spree Down At The Liquor Store,,, Right!!”.
Yeah, It might be Old South,, but that’s the way it works here in the New South.
Oh, it don’t matter what color you are, so don’t go there, Da Man is still keepin them poor peoples down.. Black Politicians are better at keeping Black Folk down that the White Folks ever were.

Greg_D | 10/26/2009, 11:50 am EST

Tim bashes the Republicans for not being classy and then turns around and uses phrases such as “Teabaggers” and “AstroTurfers.”

Obama started the “melt the phone lines” tactic with a “call-in offensive” against the radio station WGN during is campaign.

Coach | 10/26/2009, 4:55 pm EST

Greg, I believe it was Fox, and the protesters themselves who called them ‘Teabaggers’ to begin with. So, that makes it off limits to everybody else, or what?

Fine, I’ll just call them…..well, Them.

Moderate democrat- a euphemism for a republican that ran as a democrat in a majority democrat district in order to become a mole and scuttle legislation. They typically show their true colors when called upon to vote on legislation beneficial to the public as opposed to business.

Right wingers prefer to put everything in control of big corporations where it is far from regulation and evaluation allowing them to generates the maximum amount of profit while delivering the minimal level of service and value.

Liberals wish to put everything in control of public services where it can be monitored and evaluated for efficiency and value, minimizing profit and therefore extra costs to consumers.

Progressives want the system to work well with a combination of private business and government services geared towards the public well being and the advancement of the population.

Parrots will simply follow a dogma and repeat the party line without actually thinking about the consequences of their actions or the options offered and intent of the proponents. Usually poorly informed, they limit themselves to the information provided by their own leadership and prefer to not be bother by details.

A free thinker looks at all sides and wonders what the argument is about if not just protecting the profits of those who already have enjoyed profits ‘out the wazoo’.
Why is it so wrong for government, the supposed representative of the people, to engage in business and spur competition and value while reducing the salaries of a few overcompensated individuals?

When cities were deploying high speed wireless internet at low cost for the public, the telecoms introduced legislation to prevent such ventures reducing their profits and massive salaries. It passed with overwhelming republican support and a few dogs.

When people started going to Canada and Mexico to fill their prescriptions and reduce their medical costs, when they were demanding changes to medicare which improved accessibility to services, Pharmaceutical companies introduced complicated, incomprehensible legislation and rules that not only caused confusion in the public, but also prevented medicare from negotiating lower prices and discredited drugs being purchased abroad. With intense support of the right and it’s blue dogs, it passed.

Whenever big industries need support for increasing profits, reducing services, shafting the consumer, it calls on republicans and the ‘blue dogs’, to great success. I wonder if that is in any way related to the amount of money they spend in supporting their campaigns, their charities, their parties, their friends and favorite organizations. It would seem that WHERE you ‘invest’ those huge profits made from the people, the public, can go a long way in passing legislation that reduces competition and increases the profits made off the consumer while reducing cost by paying that same public, their employees, less.

Doesn’t the snake realize it is eating itself? Don’t republicans realize they are destroying themselves and their credibility? Don’t they care that the people can no longer afford their products and provide for those millionaire salaries and political contributions?

Perhaps it is time to burn the palaces and reduce the population by 1%. Let’s start with the tyrants that keep defrauding the public, the government and their own companies for the pursuit of personal profit.
They balk at having to limit the compensation for management at the major firms in wall street that caused the economic collapse through purchased legislation favorable to FRAUD and DEREGULATION; paid off the appropriate legislators to make sure they passed and enlisted the president as an advertisement; used their companies bank accounts to destroy the economy; now they have the nerve to demand millionaire compensation even though they had to use public funds to counteract their mismanagement.

Shouldn’t we instead fire the entire lot and prevent them from engaging in the businesses they helped destroy in the first place. Strip them of their ill gotten wealth and put them on the government programs they constantly try to destroy?

The power, always, is wielded by the people, the majority, the populace, the 99% that only control 1% of the wealth but do 100% of the work. Sometimes merely being vociferous and persistent in your demands is enough.

Think about it.

Now stop thinking and act.

Failure to act is tantamount to acceptance and gives them the reason to continue the same path towards an abyss we shall all fall into.

Wild Man of the Delta | 10/26/2009, 7:58 pm EST

Oh, and in case some of you folks think I’m against Ole Blanch,, well when Ole Blanch was Young Blanch and single,, I had one hell of a crush on her.

lasonya | 10/27/2009, 3:37 am EST

Wrong Coach it was CNN Anderson 360 that started the Teabaggers statement

lasonya | 10/27/2009, 3:40 am EST

Has everyone received their check in the mail from the messiah? While he’s flapping his gums soldiers are dying. You people who voted for him have GOT TO FEEL REALLY STUPID, AND JUST DON’T WANT TO ADMIT IT…..go ahead, let it out you’ll feel better.

John Thomas | 10/27/2009, 1:41 pm EST

Blanche is already down in the polls in Arkansas. If she votes with Obama, she will not be reelected in 2010 for sure. I wish we could get her out, she is irritantly wishy washy senator who loves the middle so she can keep power. Go JIM HOLT in 2010!!!

Anonymous | 10/27/2009, 2:01 pm EST

It would seem it was the good hearts at the Daily Show who first recognized that what those ‘astroturf’ organized people were doing was actually getting screwed, hence, ‘teabagged’, and started the very appropriate play on words.

Oh Stewart, most trusted man in news indeed.

Hey lasonya, I believe only wall street bankers and insurers and credit rating companies received checks from Bush, Paulson and Bernake. Shall we call them the three Mousketeers?

Conservfan2u | 10/27/2009, 11:14 pm EST

So funny all these people waiting on funds from the White House.
Not gonna happen nope, notta, won’t, best find something to do with your time day dreamers

Anonymous | 10/28/2009, 5:30 pm EST

Typical of Reich Wingers to find it funny to see their fellow humans hit the skids by no fault of their own.

I guess they fail to see that they are just as vulnerable to the economic downturn. Hope it happens to them in a way they can’t escape it… I bet they would be clammoring for social services with a vengance then.

Have you been learning from ‘Survivor Man’ and ‘Man Vx Wild’ or merely being entertained?

Daddeyo | 10/29/2009, 12:50 pm EST

It was CNN and MSNBC who started the classless “Teabagger” crap. That’s all libs can do is call people names because they are not intellectual enough to do otherwise. Maybe we should call libs Mother Fu***** Commie Bast****. Right? What’s good for the goose is good for the gander? I’m on the edge of poverty as it stands right now and all this insurance and cap and trade thievery will put me out of house and home…thanks alot you Mother Fu***** thieves!

Randyleepublic | 10/29/2009, 5:04 pm EST

Daddeyo, what has put you and every other struggling American on the edge of poverty is our monetary system. Do some research on a suppressed form of government called “Social Credit” and free yourself from the disinformation.

bama in ut | 10/29/2009, 8:07 pm EST

Good for him. This should be easy, this country is built on freedom and the constitution, we need term limits fast, get the pompous elite 176K a year congreemen out quickly, when a new Congressmen get sinto office and attempts to override the constitution and steal his consituencies money through legislation and override freedom and the constitution, impeach him and send him packing go to europe.

Anonymous | 10/29/2009, 10:09 pm EST

should be easier than that. There are laws against politicians stealing from the public via legislation, transferring the wealth from the treasury to their corporate allies bank accounts, I can’t imagine that they have been so careful that they have hidden all the evidence. They are just not that smart and the money trail is huge. There are also records in the congress with their fingerprints all over them where they have inserted legislation to help their ‘constituents’ in bills not even related to the abuse. We merely need law enforcement to stop wasting time with the small timers and the foreign enemies and take out the very large and real enemies hurting us here.
Bin Laden could only dream of doing to us what Goldman Saks, Lehman Brothers and AIG did to this country, but I don’t see any drones dropping bombs on those ‘McMansions’. Figuratively of course, those guys have proven themselves to be a danger to all, should be stripped of their wealth and their license to steal, put a rucksack and weapon on them and drop them in Iraq. They started these wars, let them go fight.

Jed Clampett

Built on freedom and the constitution? freedom for whom? The constitution? you mean the strong constitution of the workers who are as unprotected and unrepresented as children and the mentally deficient?

The Constitution and the Declaration were forgotten and discarded long ago when they started committing genocide against the indigenous people of this country, when they decided to use poor people as a source of indentured labor to make wealth for a chose few; in other words, they were ignored as soon as they were written, much like a presidential signing statement that says the laws of the land don’t apply to elites. When America decided to go abroad to pillage the land and rape the populations of other peoples who were not as deserving of freedom, justice and prosperity as elites, it renounced the premise of the founding documents. When Americans decided that laws only applied to lower classes to keep them in line, rather than to all men to ensure a uniform standard of living, they renounced the premises written into law. So The Constitution has never been a building block of this nation. The backs of the poor and middle class, war, monopolies, exclusion and tyranny are the only building blocks this nation seems to possess or understand. This has been allowed to happen because the populations are too simple minded, cowardly and ‘numbed by a little comfort and vacuous education’ to recognize the elites use them like automatons to force their political will on the world and even their compatriots.

Go DeMint, the liberals are corrupt statists. The RS is an old liberal rag good to start a fire with.

S. Esthay | 10/30/2009, 10:27 pm EST

I have never heard so much foolishness. Let me cover a few things. The present health care plan that the Democrats are trying to force through is UN-constitutional. Why not read a few book? Do some research. I divorced the Democrat Party when abortion became an issue. With everything available today, there is NO excuse for any female to become pregnant. There are no accidents. There are men and women (equally responsible) who are ignorant, stupid, too lazy, do not care, or have an agenda (a monthly check). And it is beggaring this country. Many with no education, no job, who cannot in any way pay for a child(ren), but they want the rest of us to ppay. Bull! Abortion should never have become an issue–it should have been all about PREVENTION! Then abortion is a moot point. Now on to the $500 billions dollars to be cut from Medicare to pay for this “free” health care for people who want something for nothing. Millions of people have paid into Medicare for years. What have you done? Sat on your behinds? Bilked the system year after year? I don’t owe you anything! And you deserve nothing if you are unwilling to educate yourselves, work, and pay into the system. And I’m sick of hearing about “racism.” I don’t care about skin color. I do care about the kind of person you are. And I’m hearing nothing that I like. Nothing admirable. Life is all about choices, the consequences of choices, and knowing that you are not the only ones affected by your choices. The founding fathers of this country risked everything, and this country did not become great by following the example of Europe or anyone else. We saved those godless idiots. I have been an independent, hard-working person my whole life. I don’t drink, smoke, and have never used “recreational” drugs. I do not need them, and have no use for those who do so. Gee, thanks for helping to destroy the country in yet another way. All I hear about are the losers. I love my country, the greatest on the face of the earth, and I will fight for it. But, then, I have what it takes–a sense of responsibility and respect.

Robert & Betty Lemke | 10/30/2009, 11:05 pm EST

WE don’t want govenment run any thing.Keep the privite enterprize, give back the banks & auto industry, get off the health care wastful bill, get our economy moving by drilling for oil, forget the global warming it is a farce to kill our busines in the USA. Wake up & start serving the people which is what you are paid for. Give back our money & stop the bail outs, No more pork. Cut the CRAP,We are watching. IF you don’t start working for the people, your jobs are on borried time. TWO FEED UP Americans. We may have been born at night but not last night.

Contorted Logic | 10/31/2009, 10:39 am EST

Yea, we don’t want government run anything.

The first thing we should do away with is the military. What people in their right mind spends trillions in killing and destruction when their people are sick and uneducated.

Next, do away with law enforcement. We don’t need police, FBI or any other crime investigating body interfering in our lives; rules, laws and regulations are for putzes who don’t know how to use a gun to defend themselves.

Next, let’s do away with jails and prisons, kill everybody we are suspicious of and problems are solved. How much money you have should be the only determinant of guilt or innocence.

JRZGRL1 | 11/5/2009, 4:59 pm EST

Let’s remember that Jim Demint is the person who said that health care reform would be Obama’s “Waterloo” and that if Obama lost his push for health care reform that “it will break him”. So forget that people are dying because they have no access to health care – it’s all about “breaking” Obama. FYI: I live in South Carolina. Our Governor (for whom I did not vote) is Mark “I’m hiking the Appalachian Trail” Sanford. So Jim Demint being state senator pretty much fits perfectly.
