FreedomWorks’ Personal Touch

10/22/09, 3:14 am EST

AstroTurfers are working overtime to give their messages a personal touch.

Check out these marching orders from FreedomWorks campaigns director Brendan Steinhauser that were posted to the Tea Party Patriots’ listserv:

Please note that hand written letters from constituents seem to be the most effective form of communication with Capitol Hill. I think we should encourage our folks to write these letters, bundle other letters from their friends and neighbors, and hand deliver them to local offices (www.senate.gov)

Just something to think about as we continue to pound away against Obamacare and cap and tax.

Thanks!

Freedom works is a greedy far right wing supported organization that seeks to prevent Dems from passing reform – and to Crush Obama ANY way they can- even incite violence. . They pretend to be grass roots- but are promoted by powerful Republicans who want power back so bad they can taste it. They protect and support the folks who’s greed and unethical practices led us to global disaster . From Reagan 1980 – Bush 2008 meltdown – we have been RULED by toxic deregulation policy . Watch ‘The Warning http://www.pbs.org Titans of Wall ST – See how Alan Greenspan – Robt Rubin – Larry Sommers shut down ANY warning about an upcoming CRASH
Watch it and weep

ghostcommander | 10/22/2009, 12:51 pm EST

Above the gates of the Auschwitz concentration/death camps are these words in German: Arbeit Macht Frei which means work brings freedom. Who selected the name Freedom Works? Was this Armey’s idea?

Soothsayer | 10/22/2009, 1:32 pm EST

And Moveon.org was a grassroots movement? Oh NO it was funded by an angry anti-American billionaire.

Coach | 10/22/2009, 5:45 pm EST

Sooth, was that ‘angry, anti-american billionaire’ a member of congress or any government entity?

Therein lies the difference.

Soothsayer | 10/22/2009, 6:58 pm EST

And what government agency or district in Congress is Brendan working for or a member of?

Anonymous | 10/23/2009, 10:39 am EST

Jed Clampett

Jack Abramoff taught us how the bribery game is played, how ‘not for profit’ and ‘charities’ are used as places to collect bribes and later disburse them, as a vehicle with which to protect illegal assets from scrutiny and taxation.
Robert Rubin showed us what can happen when individuals with a vested interest in an industry are allowed to regulate, de-regulate rather, a particular industry.
Goldman Saks and AIG demonstrated what can happen when profit making businesses are deregulated and allowed to trade in non existent as.sets.
The Republican has showed us what can happen when a political entity is allowed to accumulate gross amounts of wealth and power, yet not held to a high standard for truth and commitment to public service.
Yet with all this evidence we still haven’t learned why truth is important and should be the way that all business is done. We still allow the leadership of companies that have been proven to act contrary to established laws and constantly manipulate legislators into writing unconstitutional legislation, ie, benefits a priviledged few rather than the public majority.

We as a people, have not yet learned that we have the power to force changes through government by demonstrating our wishes. The simplest form of doing that is email, letters and telephone campaigns. Then it should be escalated to public demonstrations on the streets. And if all that fails, there is only one way to force change through government for the benefit of the people.
We really should at the very least attempt the first two in order to avoid the third, revolt.

you guys are the biggest freedomworks fans I’ve ever seen.

There is other news out there.

Mel | 10/23/2009, 1:39 pm EST

Jed, you are profound. If only our country were filled with people just like you. Elysium would unfold.

Coach | 10/23/2009, 1:41 pm EST

Hey Soothless:

Check Dick Armey, Founder FreedomWorks

Brendan isn’t the founder.

Good effort, though….

Merkwurdigliebe | 10/23/2009, 2:17 pm EST

Coach– Dick Armey is now a private citizen. He hasnt been a congressman since 2003…thus, I’m not sure how or why you’re making him out to be more or less sinister than Soros…

mr. citizen | 10/23/2009, 2:17 pm EST

@ Tim Dickinson

Hi There, I am a little confused. Is this kind of blog post (and many of your others) supposed to have some sort of journalistic value? It seems like this is more of a piece of meat thrown to the frothy-mouthed crowd of usual posters, something to thrash over until your next inane post. This doesn’t really drive at anything, except maybe underscoring something that is already well known – political activists tend to seem a bit overzealous to the average citizen. What’s your point? Do you really think this is a worthy contribution to the public discourse on health care?

Soothsayer | 10/23/2009, 2:57 pm EST

Coach
Dick Armey US Congress (1985-2003)
Founder FreedomWorks 1984.
Want to try again? He wasn’t in Congress when it was founded.

BOKO | 10/23/2009, 6:12 pm EST

The really creepy thing about manufactured dissent like tea-bagging and the birthers is that it really is very hard to distinguish this from all the other garbage on TV. Better to switch it off altogether.

Coach | 10/24/2009, 5:57 pm EST

And Soros is a former what? Did he ever work for government, and if so, in what capacity?

THAT’s the difference. I guess I should have clarified that earlier.

Now, Merk and Sooth. Take a deep breath. As long as lobbying is around, there will be people with good intentions and bad intentions. It seems the majority on these Stone blogs would put Armey in the ‘bad’ category. Maybe you put them all in the same category, I don’t know. But, there ARE good lobbies, ones that have given us some pretty cool legislation. Civil Rights, etc…

Soothsayer | 10/25/2009, 2:21 pm EST

Gotta love Dems when they proven wrong they just change the argument and ignore their errors.

Sounds “Carterish” to me…

Soothsayer | 10/25/2009, 2:23 pm EST

Jobless, you are correct, why is Obama spending so much time of health care when the economy continues to sink and unemployment grows? Maybe he needs to ask Jim Carville about it?

Steve, CA | 10/25/2009, 2:47 pm EST

Sooth: Because when people lose their ‘corporate’ jobs, they also lose health care. Then, if they need care, they have to buy their own insurance and can’t bargain for discount, bulk rates like corporations can.

You, obviously, don’t think private health insurance is a scam. Until you do, you won’t understand the ‘other’ side…….

“And Moveon.org was a grassroots movement? Oh NO it was funded by an angry anti-American billionaire.”

generally them rich people are SMART unless they get it all ahnded to them on a silver coke tray. kinda like your pal geo bush jr.

rich cause o daddy and dumb as a rock.

Merkwurdigliebe | 10/26/2009, 12:20 pm EST

Coach– I never said lobbying was bad, or that good hasnt come of it. I’m just not sure how you make the point that being a former congressman makes one more or less sinister than a shadowy billionaire who may/may not be anti-American. If you lobby for less than respectable reasons, does it really matter what you used to do?

To me, both are pretty shady…but the one with the more money, and more power, i.e., Soros, clearly worries me more. Check his net worth and contributions to Armey’s…which worries you more? Unless of course, you only worry about Cons…Libs are blameless, right?

Coach | 10/26/2009, 4:26 pm EST

Sure Merk, it’s a pure ‘label’ thing to me…….

Just like a lemming, I’m behind ANYTHING with the word ‘liberal’ on it, and against anything with the word ‘conservative’ on it.

Actually, you know better of me, unless you’re so blinded by anger right now, that you don’t remember me saying over and over and over “message, not messenger”. I don’t like Armey’s message. Not the bumper sticker message, the REAL message. It’s that simple, but keep on accusing me of being a lemming. If it makes you feel better, that’s a good thing.

Merkwurdigliebe | 10/26/2009, 4:46 pm EST

Coach– I’d say I’m more mildy rankled than anything else.

Besides, my quips were meant purely in sarcastic jest. We simply seem to differ on who, between the choices, stinks more…

Coach | 10/26/2009, 4:59 pm EST

Merk, I also thought I’d throw out an example of the ’slant’ of media, some of which is perfectly acceptable to me…….

The Global War on Terror

Fox reports on these issues without ever mentioning that a good percentage of the terrorism against the United States is because of our imperialism.

MSNBC brings on plenty of people that admit plainly that our imperialism is a major problem.

It’s a valid point, considering how many international military bases we have around the world, but none of our allies get a base here in our own country. That’s why we’re called Invaders.

Your turn. Show me a slant the other way.

Merkwurdigliebe | 10/26/2009, 6:16 pm EST

Coach– I’m afraid you have to be more specific…are you referring to news or commentary? In any case, on the face of it, I know your premise is untrue, as I’ve seen Ron Paul, Kucinich, and several former CIA analysts openly criticizing our national policy aims, going back several years.

In any case, I’m not sure where the “slant” is without more info. But if I have to enter a cursory “slant” on the other side, I would point to the other News Agencies lack of coverage of the ACORN scandal, as well complete lack of any sort of investigation over the supposed Limbaugh “quotes” that he never said. Not to mention commentary as well, with Matthews getting “chills” going down his leg every time Obama speaks, to staunch leftist Olberman as the left’s answer to Sean Hannity.

But for the most part, the news division is indistinguishable from one another, as Fox, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, and everyone else all gather info from the same AP and Reuters Newswires…

Btw, our allies do have military
presences here. In Norfolk, VA we have a large UN force, made up of mostly European allies, the RAF has a presence at Langley, Dover, and MacDill AFB’s, and we have many foreign officers trainging at the Army Command Staff College in Leavenworth, KS. NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA also has a NATO Joint Strike Fighter Wing, who’ve been running training drills for the last couple of years. Not to mention, many of our naval bases double as ports of call for just about any major world Navy; Australian, Russian, Chinese, British, etc. All you have to do is count the flags in Pearl Harbor and Port of Norfolk to know that we have tons of foreign military presence arking about.

Certainly not along the lines of our bases in the ME, if thats what you’re getting at (and I agree, we ought to be out of Saudi Arabia on the double), but our allies do have presences here, in a joint capacity.

IncredulousAtYOURineptitude | 10/29/2009, 12:11 pm EST

Yea Coach, you have to be more specific, his level of comprehension is fractional.
In fact, cut it up into tiny pieces and feed it to him with a plastic fork so he doesn’t have to be bothered by chewing.
Be ready though, it’s very likely he will spit most of it back out just to play with you, and smear it all over himself in the process.
Don’t be angry at him, you know what happens to OLD people who aren’t well cared for… dementia.

Merkwurdigliebe | 10/29/2009, 1:54 pm EST

Icredibly Inept– Oooh, now you’re just being nasty…a logical fallback, given your lack of an argument I suppose. Is the angry little troll incensed because he cant contribute to the debate like a big boy?

When without facts, a logical argument, or civility, commence personal attacks! Jeez, I thought you libs were supposed to be the tolerant, open minded ones…

So Mr. Inept, do you have a point, at all?

bama in ut | 10/29/2009, 8:10 pm EST

I ownder what the ACORN and Union memos look like, “go out and terrorize them, get in their face, push them around, don’t let them tlak, shut htem down” I have seen the YOU tube town hall videos of the union and acorn thugs. Kind of like “brown shirts”

Tez | 11/1/2009, 11:03 am EST

If you look into who funds “freedomworks” it is Pharma and the insurance biz the are using “freedomworks” and other pseudo grassroots organizations to make money for stockholders. It should be called StockholdersWorks.” The angry “members” should direct their anger at the idea of being used.
