A must read:

US Torture: Voices from the Black Sites – The New York Review of Books

…the ill-treatment to which they were subjected while held in the CIA program, either singly or in combination, constituted torture. In addition, many other elements of the ill-treatment, either singly or in combination, constituted cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment…..

How pathetic is it that this doesn’t even surprise anybody anymore.

…It really is a pity. I guess with great freedom comes great hypocrisy.

Jed Clampett

Interesting, a resounding ‘no’ (a la Ted Stevens, I imagine) followed immediately with a qualifier and exception. So much for the strength of your convictions and ideals. When you pursue policies and ideals under false pretenses you definitely loose credibility.

The scenario is this.
Your nation decided to carry out a proxy war on mine because we democratically elected someone not of your liking. Much like you did to the Palestinian territories.
In My View, America IS the enemy of humanity and civilization because even though it says it supports those inalienable rights endowed by their creator to all humans, it reserves the right to deny those rights to anyone it sees fit for any purpose it deems valid.
Worse of all, Americans REFUSE to even recognize what they are doing.

Now, my beliefs are that all humans are the same, deserving of distinction only based on their own personal actions and personality; unlike a majority of Americans who prefer to subdivide humanity into white – red, Muslim – Jew, rich – poor, terrorist – patriot, righteous and evil, I choose to wait till I can truly make a valid as$essment.
I am also a pacifist and humanist, which prevents me from going haywire against this country on the basis of what it’s actions directly did to my family, my nation and the prosperity of my people.
Under your beliefs however, I would be much justified in using my position within a major Telecom to introduce a virus that finds Cisco routers and switches and erases their routing tables. With my engineering skills, I can make it so that replacing the switches and routers would be the only way to fix the problem until they found the chip I removed from the IRQ and IO tables.
I am approached by CIA or FBI and I am successful in diverting attention from me to you. Shouldn’t you be just as proud of your security services that took you in to custody on my word and subjected you to torture as you are of the actions visited upon the people of Arab descent that were imprisoned and tortured in the same manner?
