Unabashed Racism in the Bush DOJ _Civil Rights_ Division

1/13/09, 3:32 pm EST

The new Inspector General report out of the Justice Department makes clear that Randy Schlozman — the acting director of DOJ’s Civil Rights Division — illegally used political considerations to replace nearly 1-in-6 lawyers in the division with “real Americans,” and members of “the team,” ie: conservatives, preferably members of the Federalist Society. The report also finds that Schlozman lied about his illegal hiring practices repeatedly in congressional testimony.

The report is shocking. But even moreso in a topic it touches on only tangentially — racism in the Civil Rights Division of the Bush DOJ. Schlozman tried to have one “Democrat in hiding” that he oversaw exiled because she: “wrote in Ebonics,” “was an idiot,” and “was an affirmative action thing.”

(The attorney in question graduated magna cum laude from a top law school and was repeatedly praised in her performance reviews for her strong writing and analytical skills.)

There is also this email exchange between Schlozman and John Tanner, the Voting Rights division chair who infamously asserted that Voter ID requirements that disadvantage the elderly have no impact on minorities because, “minorities don’t become elderly the way white people do. They die first.”

Tanner and Schlozman are discussing how they like their coffee, with Tanner writing that he took his “Mary Frances Berry style – black and bitter.”

Berry, an African American, chaired the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights for nearly a decade, ending her service in 2004.

Na man, not white people, rich people. He had no trouble making the rich in Soudi richer, even the Iranians benefited from his spiking in oil prices. “The buck stops here” I’ve heard its been said, yet this ‘president’ merely sees ‘disappointments’, actions by others that didn’t live up to expectations. A total lack of responsibility on his part and thereby his administration. I hope enough can be salvaged from the paper shredders to indict and convict these fools.

Oh, and let’s not forget the rising wealth of the Chinese elite, who, by having American companies willing to partake in their veritable slavery of the population, have made themselves wealthy beyond belief while the common man languishes in poor working conditions, lack of decent health services and no social safety net. If this is not a crime, as defined by our own laws, what is? Is the premise of ‘competition’ enough to subject millions of people to destitution?

Would the Chinese government be the economic power house it is today, threatening the people of Tibet, Taiwan, Northern India and minorities within it’s own nation if AMERICAN companies were not taking advantage of their lax safety rules, disdain for environmental concerns or even the safety and viability of the products they produce? Of course not. Our leadership is making our greatest enemy wealthy enough to undertake a military campaign against our ‘interests and partners’, facilitated by an equally disturbing weakening of our own industrial manufacturing ability and the health of our people.

Sitting here watching the debate on the floor of the house on the SCHIP bill, I see republicans, to a man, stand up in opposition to the bill, supposedly because of it’s costs. These are the same folks that had no aversion to spending billions of our money to kill people in order to steal their resources.
In republican eyes, health of children=bad, death of humans and stealing=good.
What a bunch of selfish fools they are, so easily taken down the rosy path that leads to darkness for all.
