President Bush, Thanks for the Memories

It feels like the end can’t come quickly enough. George W. Bush — the lamest of ducks — will finally hand the keys to the White House to Barack Obama on January 20th.

Even in Bush’s waning days, the dire news continues to flow. Last week brought word that almost 2.6 million jobs were lost in 2008, the worst year on the job front since 1945. The bloodletting included more than 524,000 jobs cut in December alone. Happy holidays. As Bush was packing the moving van, unemployment swelled to 7.2 percent, its highest mark in 16 years. No, the fundamentals of our economy are not strong.

Bush’s approval ratings are currently hovering below 30 percent in most polls, nothing new for a nation used to seeing the phrase “record low” in virtually every assessment of public opinion of the president. At this point, it’s hard to believe that Bush won’t be escorted out of Washington by torch-wielding villagers.

But hey, it wasn’t all bad. Face it, the man could make us laugh (when we weren’t crying). The guffaws were hardly intentional, of course, but these days, we’ll take levity any way we can get it. He choked on a pretzel, fell off a Segway and scared away small children (oh, and he also declared a premature end to a war that still rages on).

So we’re sharing our most memorable moments with George, magical morsels of the misunderestimated one that we’ll fondly recall long after he stumbles off into the sunset:

President Bush, Thanks for the Memories

It’s getting pretty sad, I can anticipate what drivel you guys will espouse before you can. Even Sean Hannity is less predictable then Rolling Stone. The political coverage is not edgy, or interesting, its classless utterly void of quality or substance.

bon0 | 1/12/2009, 7:23 pm EST

“meet the new boss, same as the old boss” Hey, i’m willing to see what the new boss can do. mojojess and Freshmaker 13 I KNOW you both were under the table helping Bill be the best president he could be! You two can pack up and move to the Gaza strip. we don’t need you here! Piss off!

bon0 | 1/12/2009, 7:37 pm EST

faheyclone, why are there people like you in this world? really? You are of no value what so ever. Piss off

Anonymous | 1/12/2009, 8:28 pm EST

hope Obama keeps his promises. (most likely wont)

Mercy Mcquade | 1/12/2009, 8:37 pm EST

This type of articles is the reasonn I do not want a subscription of your magazine even for free. I rather die than betrayed this country , your are a bunch of cowards, liberal hippies.

redman | 1/12/2009, 9:00 pm EST

i agree with a lot of these other comments. get rid of this drivel. i hate seeing you write this crap, i thought you were a music magazine?? you guys are the equivalent of mtv now, just a name with no music behind it anymore. this is the reason i got rid of my subscription and rarely even visit the website any more.

Peter | 1/12/2009, 9:20 pm EST

I thought you guys were a music magazine?

Thatdood | 1/12/2009, 9:21 pm EST

What’s the point of bashing bush on a music magazine?

That-dood | 1/12/2009, 9:22 pm EST

What’s the point of bashing bush now?

daniel | 1/12/2009, 9:35 pm EST

Resorting to writing fiction, huh RS? Fake cover with fake story about something you WISH would happen. You can wish in one hand …

johnnie | 1/12/2009, 9:39 pm EST

we have all said it all. but i get it the story was funny and quick. thanks oh yea thanks George for all the memories.

brin | 1/12/2009, 11:02 pm EST

personally, i think comments sections on RS.com are pure genius. same price — twice the comdey.

thanks for the laughs.

Anonymous | 1/13/2009, 1:15 am EST

If anything, Rolling Stone should apologize to W and America for their horrible treatment of the President. Never in my entire life did I believe that the media, even in the dawn of a President they favor, would they do this to OUR President. He wasn’t the best, but he kept us safe, and up until the last 2 years, our economy strong through some of the most horrific years this world has faced. Even if you hate the man, at least give him some respect. Hail to the Chief.

Anonymous | 1/13/2009, 1:19 am EST

I pray to God RS will hold these standards on Obama, but they won’t. They’ll bash Bush for faults he’s never seen BUT WATCH! If anyone even whispers something against Obama, they will flip out, claiming that disrespecting the President at such dire times is un-patriotic. Just watch…

Anonymous | 1/13/2009, 1:23 am EST

I love how they plot this whole situation on Bush. If anything, it’s indirectly Obama’s fault! He’s talked about hiking up taxes on the rich and spending billions more. You know what, businesses heard that, and now the Economists are doing there job, “SPECULATING” exactly what they think Obama will do, and it doesn’t look pretty.

Anonymous | 1/13/2009, 1:24 am EST

Andif anyone even remembers, the whole MISSION ACCOMPLISHED thing occured because idiots from magazines like this ranted for over month while we sat in Baghdad saying “when is he gonna say we won?” hundreds of times over…

lol | 1/13/2009, 6:04 am EST

radiohead pun. heh.

Moonie | 1/13/2009, 7:43 am EST

Lay off of it already! You have a new President! What are you going to report on now? Again, your magazine is pityful…

Gfunkel | 1/13/2009, 8:09 am EST

Moonie, how can you say lay off it. Bush has played dumb for eight years, while thousands of people, including American’s have died. But, you’re right, there is a new President, and let’s hope that the Liberals stay in power for a long time…. and the world will be a better place to live.

Dean | 1/13/2009, 9:40 am EST

Estimates say that nearly 1 MILLION Iraqis have died in the war. ONE MILLION. How the f*@K do you help a country by killing ONE MILLION of their innocent citizens, women and children. It makes me sick.

bon0 | 1/13/2009, 9:40 am EST

Gfunkle, piss off!

eric | 1/13/2009, 10:20 am EST

Does anyone else think GWB is a typical white person like the one Obama described?

boomster | 1/13/2009, 11:04 am EST

Sure looks like the mainstream media (and RS) had it right all along. Americans have had enough of the President of Fail.

FuzzyBunny | 1/13/2009, 1:25 pm EST

I subscribe to the magazine for now until it runs out. Why do you insist on writing articles like this that mean nothing in the context of music or entertainment? If I want Bush bashing I will tune into CNN. Give us all a break and quit writing this crap.

Salmon Wordsmore | 1/13/2009, 1:40 pm EST

“Fail to the Chief” hahaha I see what you did there. I bet all the trolls ITT are part of the Bush legacy project, desperately trying to spin his failure into some other position than “worst president ever”

Conservatives didn’t like Clinton because he ran a surplus, and he cleaned up the mess the Conservatives left. Wow, I guess history does repeat itself.

Anonymous | 1/13/2009, 3:17 pm EST

I can’t believe Republicans will stand up for that guy (Bush). After all he is responsible for the death of thousands of people, stood by while and entire city sank, and read story books to children after being warned of 911. All Conservatives should be ashamed of themselves for voting this pathetic human being into office.

RSfan | 1/13/2009, 4:40 pm EST

Its funny how people complain about RS’s political commentary when the magazine has been doing it since its creation in the late 60’s and its editorial line has always been very liberal… its like going to a Bond movie and complaining about the non plausibility of it all!!!
If anything they have been consistent.

ronpaul2012 | 1/13/2009, 4:45 pm EST

if you people think Obama is going to come in and everything will be alright, you need a serious reality check. I’m a 27 year old “fiscal” conservative and have been bashing bush since 1999, so conservative has nothing to do with it. instead of getting political info from a lame duck music magazine, why don’t you read a book. how about you people at rolling stone focus on Miley Cyrus and leave the political assessments to intellectuals

Kliff | 1/13/2009, 4:47 pm EST

Blind-partiotic Americans say you shouldn’t bad-mouth a sitting President. First, what good is it if you point out his wrongs & crimes when he’s out of the White House? AND…are you going to admit his crimes now that he’s leaving? The Bush White House was stolen and then they let 911 happen and had insane amounts of Iraqis and over 4,000 american soldiers killed by invading 2 countries that didn’t invade us.

ronpaul2012 | 1/13/2009, 4:48 pm EST

by the way Clinton had a surplus because he raided the social security fund of over 3 trillion dollars in 8 years. put the hash pipe down Anonymous, and actually learn something before you spout your empty headed rhetoric

Spike | 1/13/2009, 4:49 pm EST

Don’t ya love ‘conservatives’ who think they are brave and progressive cuz they bad-mouthed bush on wasting their money? They had no problem with a stolen election, 2 illegal invasions, spying on americans, etc.
lame, selfish cowards is what I call them

ronpaul2012 | 1/13/2009, 4:57 pm EST

like i said “conservative” has nothing to do with it, everyone that i know are grateful dead conservatives. bush is not/was not/never was a conservative. the most conservative member of congress is Ron Paul, and i would be willing to bet that if anyone on here actually knew his stances most people would agree with him. tell me, do you think the federal government should make the decisions for you or should you be able to make your own independent decisions. i’d be willing to bet that most people want less government interference in their lives

Anonymous | 1/13/2009, 5:08 pm EST

ronpaul2012 clearly is a conservative, as he puts fiction before fact. Must be the religious type.

Happy He's Gone.... | 1/13/2009, 5:13 pm EST

I don’t see how anyone here could bash this magazine for simply printing the obvious!! BUSH SUCKS….he should have been impeached!

Jack | 1/13/2009, 8:03 pm EST

Wow-what a great story! I know this is the interview you wished he’d give..but probably 95% of your readers will believe it’s true, even though the only thing true about the story was the presidents name. He wasn’t your president, you prefer someone who gets blow jobs in the oval office and then points his bony finger at America and lies about it….and doesn’t have the blls to take out Bin Ladenwhen he had the chance. How does it feel? You have so much power to talk down the economy, telling everyone how bad it is, that it only takes a few to start believing the lie…and then it snowballs….into what is referred to as a RECESSION! Have you ever been driving down the road at 80 mph and then come onto a construction zone and had to slow down to 40 mpg? Feels slow doesn’t it. Well that’s what happened to our economy when you (smarter-than-us-workin-folks) start talking down our country and economy and anything Bush. The economy WAS Zooming, but you wanted your guy and your congress in there, so they can give away the candy store. Look what happened to gas prices AFTER the dems took over. You or somebody needs to report that the “social engineering” perpitrated on us by Freddie and Fanny was done by the Dems, and when someone tried to blow the whistle…they said “everything is fine.” Now, the same people that caused it and let it get us here…are the same ones that are telling us “WE CAN FIX IT!” Yeah in the real world after you loose a couple of million dollars your boss is going to give you even more to fix the problem that you caused!!! Right!Shouldn’t we wait until these guys get out of jail first before we give them anymore of our money? Oh yeah nobody is being charged with anything because thay are not REPUBLICAN. Oh well, you got what you wanted! The problem is Obama is going to do what tha last Dem did to “fix’ the economy and spend our way out of it…only to find out that it is going to ad another 7 years to the problem, just like The Great Depression…You people are depressing! You guys are brilliant! I don’t know why I get this rag anymore, all I know is that it is going straight to the recycle bin from now on and I won’t renew. I’m tired of reading ignorant, uneducated, liberal garbage. Sorry about your layoffs, just remember, you asked for them….now….here they come.

D&C | 1/13/2009, 8:43 pm EST

I am not sure how to argue a point when it is so articulate as “Bush Sucks” I am sure there is some parent who is very proud for the college education they paid for.

D&C | 1/13/2009, 8:46 pm EST

Jack, What do expect from a media who STILL thinks Sarah Palin said “I can see Russia from my front porch”

Happy He's Gone..... | 1/13/2009, 9:46 pm EST

Thanks D&C….that college education just happens to be a Masters in EE…and working on my Ph.D.
…and what more can I say than “Bush Sucks”…unfortunately that simply says it all.

ray | 1/13/2009, 10:45 pm EST

I think Bush was one of the worse presidents, Iraq, the economy which was ruined by the lack of regulation and and oversight, and the denial of rights was bad. My favorite moment was the 2000 Republican debate where he gave the answer about Jesus.

Rich | 1/13/2009, 10:45 pm EST

Let’s just wait and see how Obama actually does as President; he has made a lot of promises that offer no specifics so (as a Democrat) I am anxious to see him walk the walk after being given a free pass by this magazine to say whatever he wants with no questions asked. And, by the way, Mr. Wenner: Better replace your knee pads, you’ve got 4 more years of blow jobs to give the first biracial (not African-American, the dude’s mother is white, simple genetics and biology) American President, and make sure you keep swallowing.

Anonymous | 1/13/2009, 10:46 pm EST

If Rolling Stone was around before WWII they would be nazi sympathizers. Peace at any cost eh chaps?

Captain Subtext | 1/13/2009, 11:05 pm EST

Some of you commenters make me sick, no wonder there’s so much trouble in your country, everyone’s divided, you’re either a Republican or Democrat(or something inbetween, an independent, which is frowned upon by most). Say you dislike your president, politics or culture and you’re a freedom hater or unpatriotic. Way to restrain yourselves from intelligent debate.

Get rid of the two-party system, it’s immature.

God bless the US of A.

Opinionated article, some proper Bush bashing, which he deserves of course. Let’s hope the Republicans never get that kind of power again. Although after reading what Clinton has said about foreign policy for Obama I I fear they’re not much better.

A Proud American | 1/14/2009, 12:32 am EST

Rolling Stone proved long ago that its existance was a joke by dismissing Led Zeppelin. Ridiculous articles like this show just how little time changes things… I can’t wait to see coverage of our new president… should be hilarious reading

Yowza | 1/14/2009, 2:01 am EST

Whatever, Proud American. At least Obama take a proud economy down to the ground.

Partisan Republicans, sheesh.

Anonymous | 1/14/2009, 2:42 am EST

PArtisan republicans? The democrats are the ones that just got rid of all the laws Newt Gingrich put in place that FORCED bi-partisanship. DEms bitch for years about working together, Republicans stupidly give in, and Democrats, when they have the majority, re-write laws to exclude Republicans? Please…

Hey Anonymous,

This BS about spying on Americans is soooo old. You’re buddy Springsteen bought this up at all his concerts last year and was greeted with booos and total apathy!!!! Go break out some more Kool-Aid!!! If we were attacked again…YOU my friend would be the first one crying!!!! And if all you miscreant dolts care to remember….we were the ones attacked. But like all liberal a$$holes, you just want to turn your back and forget it happened. Don’t even think of protecting yourself so it doesn’t happen again!!! You must have been great in school…you probably had the sh _ _ beat out of you constantly!!!! Tell your “old” story walking and drink up!!!!

Ben | 1/14/2009, 12:10 pm EST

This is exactly the reason I cancelled my yearly Rolling Stone subscriptions a few years ago. I’m tired of one-sided, cover story, biased reporting – never anything positive. Yeah, things were not great over the last 8 years, but name one presidency where they ever had 100% approval. Bush had alot of good things happen too (not going to list them here) and with some simple research anyone can find out the FACTS instead of relying on what biased TV news show you watch or what biased magazine you read! Good luck to Obama and the new administration and no matter who or what you stand behind, WE need to support OUR President and our nation!!

This magazine has become a venue for destitute writers who like to call themselves journalists. Where is your integrity? It be nice if this magazine actually wrote about truth sometimes. I’d love to see a list of your sources. Who are they? The Boss and and Oprah?! Or maybe RS could become more futuristic in their approach. Why bitch and moan about things that are past? Unbiased, let’s talk about what’s coming, what we can expect, and how we can be proud of our country. Oh! And maybe you should write more about music and less about politics. It doesn’t seem to me that you’re qualified for the latter.

Elbowski | 1/14/2009, 12:57 pm EST

Rolling Stone-Worst. Magazine. Ever. The only good part of this magazine is Peter Traver’s movie reviews. I am not even a Republican and I get tired of seeing their one-sided arguments. Matt Taibi is an annoying ghoul who thinks that just because he is on Bill Maher’s show all the time, he is just as funny. Although, this is the same magazine that dismissed Led Zeppelin, so I guess they cannot be taken seriously.

Peter Piper Picked A Pepper | 1/14/2009, 1:27 pm EST

to be honest i think hes a genius. hear me out, He was elected once it was a bad run i agree but the fact that he had been able to be elected again is beyond me. Which is amazing because everyone says he was a bad president….are you in the oval office nooo. He got in there TWICE id say he is pretty smart to be able to control other people’s lives

Scott | 1/14/2009, 1:39 pm EST

I bet this birdcage filler of a periodical will show our President a little bit more respect when they come begging for a bailout so they dont go bankrupt or fade into obscurity (or both). I don’t know anyone that read this magazine anymore, and those that do probably turn to a more respected source of news than anentertaiment magazine for objective political reporting. The obly reason to patronize this website is for release dates/news on artists that I like. Virtually everthing else is trite garbage. Thank you President Bush, for keeping me and my family safe in this very dangerous period of history. God help Obama to have equal success in that regard. God help us all.

Mike Black | 1/14/2009, 3:05 pm EST

What on earth??? Firstly I thought Rolling stone had been giving political and world comment since it was established, secondly when did Bush have a resurgence of popularity?
I agree that the USA needed to be defended, and measures like the patriot act had to be considered, but surely now we can all see Iraq was a monumental mistake and that the measures like rendition were extreme. I have a lot of sympathy or America, I am from the UK and everyone hates the US now, because of George Bush. A leader that can’t speak the English language and has been careless with human rights. It is time for Barack Obama to make the world love America again because of its values and what it stands for. Bush is the greatest blotch on the US history since the oppression of black people.

JP | 1/14/2009, 3:20 pm EST

Ben, can you give me 3 things Bush did that was positive the past eight years?

Honestly, I have to scrape the bottom of the barrel to come up with just one thing positive that he has done. That is just being an inspirational cheerleader after 9/11. Couple of speeches and throwing a strike in a first pitch of the ‘01 World Series.

I’m not a partisan. I think both political parties are useless in doing what needs to be done to run this country. My problem with George W. Bush is the same problem I had when he ran in 2000. He is incompetent to be President of the US. The last press conference demonstrated how tone deaf and out of touch this dim bulb has been the past 8 years. He has been an embarrassment to Republicans, Democrats, and to all Americans.

Ari | 1/14/2009, 3:46 pm EST

I cannot but marvel at the myriad of people here who can’t spell even the most common words. God! Americans are bloody idiots.

John | 1/14/2009, 4:12 pm EST

andys | 1/14/2009, 4:24 pm EST

Amazing how many Republicans on here attack Rolling Stone for printing this article, by calling them out-of-touch (and bring up the decades-old, lame “they dissed Zeppelin” argument). What’s funny is why do they bother even looking at the website? Plenty of conservative sites out there that cater to their tastes and bias. I guess it’s all about doing what Repbulicans seem to excel at – pointing a judgmental finger at anyone who dares to question.

Steve | 1/14/2009, 5:29 pm EST

The sad thing is that American’s voted him in for the 2nd term. Let me repeat that. Americans actually voted Bush in not once but twice. That’s after the world knew there were no weapons of mass destruction etc, etc. The whole world seemed to see through this guy from day one but the old land of the free, home of the brave stuck by their guns (quite literally if I might add) and bought the whole paranoia and fear tactic that was laid out by your President’s administration. This little article would have been witty and insightful if it was written before the end of his first term and written from a fururistic viewpoint as to the way things may happen a little later down the road. Who knows you might have even won a Pulitzer for it. A little late on this one Rolling Stone. Personally I can’t wait for Obama to start so you can move on and stop focussing on this imbecile that ruined your country. You can cry all you want about what a bad, bad man he is/was but hey, you asked for it. Not once, but twice. Fool me once, shame on you,…….

No big deal... | 1/14/2009, 5:30 pm EST

I just don’t see how this warranted a cover story.

Mango | 1/14/2009, 5:56 pm EST

Hey Mike Black From UK….luckily Tony Blair had a little more testicular content then you appear to have. Would like to see what your response would have been if they took down a couple of your buildings and killed your father or aunt or uncle, cousin etc. As far as the world hating the US…we’ve heard this endlessly….and they hate us until they need help from us and then they all come running!!!! So, if President elect Obama is going to return us to the good graces of the world I hope it is not at the expense of those who perished on 9/11. And I hope it isn’t to kow tow to those like you, who would rather we be “wussies”, then respond to animals who want to murder us!!!!!! BYE now…Clapton has arrived for a spot of tea..

Anonymous | 1/14/2009, 7:04 pm EST

Andys – Your completely wrong, people read this magazine expecting unbiased reporting. Yes, if you go to Rush’s site you’ll find a conservative point of view but for an independent magazine to completely spin a liberal message while still claiming to be unbiased is laughable.

Jed Clampett

Right, since a few criminals attacked us, we were justified in attacking people of the same color, invading an entire country? rather insane, don’t you think? Wouldn’t it have made more sense to attack Pakistan, those that promote, fund and train terrorists that create mayhem all over the region? You know, the ones that created the Taliban, destabilized Afghanistan, harbor Bin Laden, etc etc. But then again, republicans have always been reactionary and misguided anyway.

It’s not about being pu$$ies if you don’t just attack someone haphazzardly, pissing off the entire region, instead of going after the true enemies in a measured, intelligent way… then again what would republican supporters understand about intelligence anyway?

where’s the 7 minutes of fame during the 9/11 attack?? as he sits there comatose in a classroom wondering what to do he shows his true decision making process “what the hell do i do?”

Anonymous | 1/15/2009, 1:47 pm EST

What, 7 minutes of fame? NO, he kept his cool, didn’t panic, finished what he was doing, left without making a huge disrrupted and immediately started on fixing the problem. John Kerry confessed that on 911, when he found out, they cancelled meetings and he just sat with some buds drinking, not knowing what to do. Would you have rather seen Bush throw the book down, make a scene at the school and scare the kids? He did the right thing, shut up.

teacherparent | 1/15/2009, 2:03 pm EST

There are tactful ways to leave a situation such as “story Time.” I know we have come to expect ridiculous reactions from Bush. Maybe simply hand the book to the teacher and tell the kids you have to take care of president issues. Are we really arguing about this??DING DONG THE DICK IS DEAD!!!!

Anonymous | 1/15/2009, 3:36 pm EST

Oh dear, Mr Bush. Such an interesting topic.

You know, there was a time when 90% of you Americans supported the man, and when the U.S. invaded Iraq, a majority still approved of him.

People are still the most powerful factor in politics. The American people as a whole, are to blame as much as their president.

And remember, Bush is out of a job too! Leave the poor man alone. Bush-bashing is getting ridiculously boring. Imagine being him, and knowing that so many people hate him. He’s hardly the first unpopular leader, or one unsuited to the job at the time. Nor is he a complete moron. I wold say that he’s similar to Tsar Nicholas II, an alright guy, just the wrong guy for the job.

I’m not saying I agree with his policies, but I doubt anyone could’ve done much better than what he did.

Thank you, President Bush. Hopefully history will be kinder to you, than the media who try to make a buck out of bashing you. Hopefully people will learn to forgive, forget, and accept you for only being human.

Mango | 1/15/2009, 3:48 pm EST

Teacherparent… correction… from what I hear from Pelosi the “Dick” is not dead…Bill Clinton is still thriving, and the dick is very much alive…it’s just not being used on Hillary!!!!!:)

The Truth Commission | 1/15/2009, 5:08 pm EST

Americans just don’t know what kind of suffering they’ve inflicted on Iraq, and the rest of the world for that matter. Under Bush, it almost became Fortress America, a one-party dictatorship who used gay marriage as a way of distracting voters from the real issues that were creeping up on them:

-Negligible job creation (which can be completely attributed to the beliefs and policies of conservatives going back to Reagan)

-Cold-blooded and incompetent handling of a major natural disaster that brought third world conditions to New Orleans (again, directly attributed to Bush’s beliefs in keeping a good ‘ol boy inner circle of incompetent boobs.)

-Lack of response to the Aug. 6 warning (see above.)

-A record deficit to maintain an unnecessary occupation of a country invaded under clearly, known to the rest of the world at the time, fictional pretenses.

I could go on. Bush simply should not have been president. He was appointed president, and he has done an incompetent job having been manipulated by an inner circle who furthered their own agenda at the expense of taxpayers and innocent Iraqis without a shred of remorse or regret. They knew what they were doing, they could have done a better job, but they chose not to. Bush’s defenders simply don’t have the intelligence to grasp that simple point.

Every time I read some sort of dialog about Bush’s legacy of incompetence by Americans, my lack of respect for Americans’ intelligence, compassion and humanity is reaffirmed. Americans have to do better.

Rob williams | 1/16/2009, 12:19 pm EST

I want you liberal stone throwers to know that this conservative won’t disrespect 44, the way you’ve mocked 43. You also will not hold Mr. Obama to any standards, as evidenced by the fact that most of have none yourselves…Shameful and pathetic.

John | 1/16/2009, 2:14 pm EST

I love George W. Bush. Start taking responsibilty for your own problems, don’t blame it on this guy. Our government is set up so one person doesn’t have the power to mess everything up. The economy is particular is not his fault. I wish Obama the best of luck, but he is not as cool as W thats for sure!

bennie new york | 1/16/2009, 3:56 pm EST

let me guess john- you’re a dumb, pot smoking high school jock, arent you?

heathen2002 | 1/16/2009, 6:36 pm EST

John- So W. isn’t as “cool” as Obama. Thank you for your intellectual insight. You’re real bright!

Bre | 1/16/2009, 9:37 pm EST

Okay here’s the thing – he did the best he could.
Sure he made some mistakes but he kept this country safe.
It is NOT his fault that 9/11 happened or whatever.
Seriously, can’t you have some respect for the man.

hear him | 1/16/2009, 9:50 pm EST

Bush is ‘cool’? My favorite description of W I heard in the early days of his first campaign;

Big hat, no cattle.

shoe salesman | 1/16/2009, 10:05 pm EST

If an administration can be judged by it’s accomplishments than Bush’ can best be judged as the tragic failure of a mass murderer.

Hitman721 | 1/16/2009, 11:49 pm EST

George W. Bush is completely responsible for his failed presidency and the state of the Nation. Instead of putting the “Country First” as John McCain likes to say, the Republicans listened to their own BS and believed it. Saddam and Bin Laden couldn’t stand each other let alone work together. However, Clinton warned Bush about Bin Laden and Bush let him of the hook.

Second, he had a briefing on his desk about 9/11. “Bin Laden determined to strike U.S.” What did Bush do? Not a damn thing. He’s partially to blame for 9/11. Did he raise airport security in August? No. Did he put the Military on alert in August? No. Did he put the FBI and the CIA working on Al Qaeda? No. Did he listen to President Clinton when his transition team fully briefed him on the Al Qaeda threat? No.

President Bush like’s to say he protected this nation. WRONG! The worse terrorism incident happened ON HIS WATCH! This was completely preventable. Anyone who thinks differently must be a fool or completely uninformed. We could have kept the screws on Bin Laden and prevented it.

Then he makes a boneheaded decision to invade Iraq. Yeah, one problem. NO WMD’S. None. They were all destroyed in 1993 according to UN Weapon’s Inspector who said so on CSPAN. So don’t give me this crap bout WMD’s, Bush made it up to payback Saddam for trying to kill his dad.

Katrina, the loss of Habeas Corpus, illegal wiretapping, Guantanamo Bay detentions, the smearing of Lt. John Kerry and Captain Max Cleland of the U.S. Senate, Karl Rovean tactics, and failure to use diplomacy is proof of total incompetency of George Walker Bush.

He wasn’t fit to lead and divided this nation bitterly along with his party. It was thanks to Barack Obama who help start to re-unify the nation and rally us to a common purpose. But we’ll be dealing with Bush’s utter stupidity and failure as president for decades to come.

I’m an American, born in one of the original 13 states. I’m just as proud of my country as anyone. But lets be honest. BUSH was the WORST PRESIDENT IN U.S. HISTORY, BAR NONE! Worse than Nixon, worse than Hoover, worse than anyone else. He took a surplus and turned it into a trillion dollar deficit. He was worse than a teenager with a credit card!

Open your eyes beyond your partisan ideologies. If you don’t believe that, look at your investments and retirement. Bush screwed everyone for some rigid ideology and is just as bad as Bin Laden. Bush did more to hurt America than Al Qaeda ever did. I’m glad his butt will be gone and we can try to fix this nation again. I just wish that Iraqi journalist hit Bush right square in the nose.

train conductor | 1/17/2009, 11:38 am EST

Have you ever heard of Loose Change and how W and his bodies masterminded the destruction of World trade center on pretext for starting the war and profiting the pocket of Halliburton and the good old boys? The truth most be told. It is unfortunate the most of the Americans are so uninformed and they don’t investigate and see who profited from the war the W started. Do your selves a fever and Google LOOSE CHANGE.com and learn what went on 9/11 and who masterminded the whole thing and how the World Trade Center buildings go down as if they were destroyed by controlled demolitions George W. Bush who stole the presidency becomes a hero and his approval rating sores over night to 89%. And many uninformed people they don’t know what really went on and how Ben Lauden’s family in US were allowed to leave the country when nobody were allow to fly and as GARY Berntsen C.I.A. intelligence Commander at Tora Bora side in February of 2009 issue of Vanity fair on December 2001 Osama bin Laden and many of his followers have taken refuge in the mountains of Tora Bora, on Afghanistan’s border with Pakistan , where an attempt to dislodge and capture them proves unavailing. A decision by Washington has the effect of allowing him Laden to escape into the tribal areas of Pakistan.
On December 17, 2001 Kellogg, Brown & Root a subsidiary of Halliburton, where Dick Cheney had been C.E.O. is awarded a ten years omnibus contract to provide the Pentagon with support services for every meals. As defense secretary under George H. W. Bush, Cheney has pushed strenuously to outsource a variety of military functions to private contractors-art of a broader effort to transfer government functions of all kind to the private sector. And much more to come to in rich the pocket of George W and his bodies.

bennie new york | 1/17/2009, 2:08 pm EST

bre, how does bush not play a roll in 9/11. we know that bush had knowledge of the attacks beforehand and there’s more than enough to say he didnt try his best to stop it. the bush family has financial ties to bin laden, and the way the bush administration used 9/11 to justify the war in iraq, you at least have to wonder whether or not bush thought of 9/11 as an opportunity to make up for his father’s mistake of not taking out saddam. the truth is in front of you but you refuse to see it.

anyone who thinks this guy did a good job isn’t using their head and isn’t paying attention. bush has mismanaged two wars, trampled on our civil liberties, catered to corporate interests, left us with a record federal debt and used divisive language to polarize the nation. and here is the worst part- the same people who still support bush are going to blame obama’s failure to fix the economic mess that bush is responsible for on obama. barack is in tough spot- if he doesnt do something about the deficit, the economy will just get worst. but if he does tackle the deficit, he’ll have scale back the tax cuts and the stimulus plan that are essential to our recovery. i’m cautiously optimistic that obama can succeed in fixing the economy, but i’m prepared to incure the wrath of fox news zombies come 2012.

How could you be sooooo blind, and vote
the second time for him? You didn’t listen to
The rest of the world!

JP | 1/17/2009, 3:31 pm EST

To all the people posting from outside the US: Not everybody voted for George W. Bush twice! Alot of us didn’t for him one time. Not taking into account the voting fraud that occured in both elections, percentage of people who voted in both elections was 60%. Bush “won” with 50% of the votes. So, it’s only 30% of the country actually voted for this guy. The rest voted for someone else, or figured out that Republicans and Democrats are the same side of the same coin. Considering how the Democrats in Congress rubber stamped everything Bush proposes the past 8 years, the people who didn’t vote may have a point.

C | 1/17/2009, 6:35 pm EST

I think the real reason why Bush failed so bad is the adminstration behind him. Dick Cheaney is the most corrupt person in the world, Ashcroft was terrible, not to mention that Rumsfeld. I voted for Bush twice, I voted for Obama this election. Congrats Obama ! you have my backing.

Electronic man | 1/18/2009, 4:56 pm EST

I can clearly see how Mr. Bush policies destroyed our relationship with the rest of the world. Today, 8 years later except for 3 or 4 countries in the world, nobody likes the US. Mostly because of the war in Irak, wich was a terrible mistake.

Barack Obama | 1/19/2009, 1:53 pm EST

President Bush did all that he could do while president, anyone that thinks otherwise does not know American Government and American politics. Ignorance is something America seems to come by a lot, and to be ignorant to one’s own country is pretty dense of people.

adam | 1/19/2009, 4:36 pm EST

it is both shocking and gravely disappointing to see so many people still backing W. So many people claim that, by mocking and disrespecting bush, we are being “un-american” and non-patriotic. What is more un-american, however, is starting a war under false pretenses, for mr. bush’s own selfish desires. regardless of how strongly you support president bush, no one can possibly deny that invading Iraq was a mistake. What a difference in national unity we would have seen if bush would have actually concentrated on the actual terrorists that attacked our country…good riddance to bad rubbish, and to hell with bush and his ignorant cronies.

BarrackLinconKingJesusObama | 1/19/2009, 10:09 pm EST

I guess Bush can start counting all that oil money that he earned from the war he intentionally started tomorrow. What, he didn’t make a dime? I though we went to war so Bush could get all that oil.

Meh | 1/19/2009, 10:30 pm EST

I don’t really like Bush either but I’m a little tired of bashing people in politics. Didn’t Obama sponsor more productivity instead of bashing on the past? Plus, a make believe report….kinda pushing it…..
Still can’t wait for the new magazine though, and I do like the political sections, just, no more bashing please?

Meh | 1/19/2009, 10:55 pm EST

And another things I just noticed….Bush’s approval rating is around 30%. How does every Bush supporter seem to make their way to this page?

the Jaded Gypsy | 1/20/2009, 3:53 am EST

“So many people claim that, by mocking and disrespecting bush, we are being “un-american” and non-patriotic. What is more un-american, however, is starting a war under false pretenses, for mr. bush’s own selfish desires.” – Adam

Love your statement. Some of our great past leaders agree with you, and this is sadly what most of the American sheople don’t remember.

That we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.

Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism.

Right wing americans need to realize that the new york times is the word of god compared to what they’re used to reading.

Bill O’Reilly? That guy should be incarcerated for hate speech for his contempt of the truth.

D | 1/20/2009, 8:56 pm EST

The “interview” was interesting. However, the only good part was when you mentioned that you guys are a music magazine. That part should have been printed in bold and four times larger than the rest of the print in the article itself, and then made the headline for the cover advertising the article. I hope for your sakes that it’s a slow period for music news – at least then you have some little excuse for putting this political blithering in a music magazine.

NLine56 | 1/20/2009, 11:29 pm EST

I feel bad about all your intentions and feelings towards the X president! Whatever you think he is, you are all right! Only thing I can say is that he is MORONIC!!! IDIOTIC!! No Briner and can’t decide what is the best for his country but only he got drunk of his opportunity to become a president of the Ununified States of America.

So, it was all George’s fault? The major catalyst to today’s fin’l crisis is the mortgage debacle. And who was it who said “Every american should own a home”? Bill Clinton. Not every American should own a home, only those who can afford their payments.

Anonymous | 1/21/2009, 1:59 pm EST

first of all why does race always have to be an issue?

second of all you’re in trouble when you look to a music magazine for political insight.

adur | 1/22/2009, 10:30 pm EST

i think good ol george dubs should make a comedy show. all he’d really have to do is try and talk about political issues and his “strategery”, we all seem to get a kick out of that.

if anyone has problems with RS writing about this, then don’t read it or comment on it. no one really cares about your opinion. (by the way i think this article should also bash the idiots who still support bush.)

tom | 1/25/2009, 11:48 am EST

yes bush stunk up the place, but RS was so pandering to Obama, it was creepy. No wonder you said of the top ten singers, 7 were black. It may be a stretch but hummm.

Bojinka | 2/9/2009, 1:29 am EST

Just leaving a comment because the previous one (by “tom”) is so repugnant. Living in a relatively enlightened oasis, one forgets how thoroughly racism and ignorance pervade and persist in American culture.
