Dirty Tricks in Toledo

11/3/08, 1:59 pm EST

The New Republic:

Calls are being made to some… voters in Toledo warning voters of long lines at the polls and if they wanted to vote over the phone by expressing their preference on the key pad they can.

The modern GOP at work.

Dirty tricks all over the place. I just a little blip on cnn about a flyer that went out in Virginia that urged Republican voters to vote tomorrow on the actual election day and Democratic voters to vote the following day. Totally believable. Kick these crooks out of office. The party of Nixon is circling the drain…(I suppose though now they’ll be known as the party of Bush and Cheney: worst admin. in the history of this country!)

Sallad – HUGE mistake there, Carter has a solid lock on the #1 slot for worst Presidency, Bush didn’t give away national security interests, unlike Carter.

D&C: At least Carter tried to get us off of oil. And, the reason we’re still ‘interested’, or ‘vested’ in the middle east??? Oil.

Opinions vary. But, at least Carter had our future in mind. Bush had HIS future in mind.

TinFoilHat | 11/3/2008, 5:28 pm EST

C’mon. Carter was a veritable fount of competence next to Dubya. I can’t think of ONE THING that this administration has done right. NOT ONE!

DirtyDennis | 11/3/2008, 5:46 pm EST

Not only did Carter have to ‘fight’ the Right, he had to fight the Left as well. Because he was not ‘one of them.’

Be that as it may, I’d like to hear DC point our which ’security interests’ Carter ‘gave away.’

So you’re not going to back up you claim?

D&C | 11/4/2008, 12:51 pm EST

Carter gave away the Panama canal, now controlled by the Chinese.

Carter’s economics were so bad a new word, “Stagflation” had to be created to describe it.

Bush’s legacy won’t be known for 20 years or so.

DC,

M’God, you’re a living, breathing, hand-fed dupe of the Right, aren’t you. Please stand up so the rest of the class can see you.

Let me guess, you called the Contras, ‘Freedom Fighters,’ didn’t you? C’mon, admit it.

As to stagflaction, I direct you to Wikipedia where it will inform you the term was coined in the mid-60s and describes a situation where there’s inflation and a sudden spike in the wholesale price of a key commodity, in this case, oil, in 1973, whilst Tricky Dick was boss. They even tried price controls to ‘fight’ the problem. Bad Jimmy!! Bad Jimmy!!

(You might look up oil embargo while you’re there.)

But my favorite is your assessment that Carter ‘gave away’ the panama canal and that somehow that is a security ‘problem.’ Read the treaty signed by the U.S. and Panama giving them the ‘right’ to control their own land unless ‘we’ feel the need to intervene.

As for the canal ‘belonging’ to us, I quote Teddy Roosevelt defending the U.S.’s right to ‘own’ it stating, and I paraphrase, “…we stole it fair and square.”

As for the Chinese operating the locks, how is that different from the Middle East company (Dubai?) managine American ports?

If you bother to read the Wikipedia article, you’ll see that in a few years, 50% of ocean going cargo ships will be unable to use the canal.

Freedom Fighters, you’re SUCH a dupe.

Coach | 11/4/2008, 3:26 pm EST

DD, how’s this for irony. He accused Carter of ‘creating’ stagflation. What does he call the radical rise in the price of oil during Bush’s years? Carter got villainized for it. Bush better get the same…….

But, lemme guess. It’s okay that it happened under Bush watch because he’s a Repubelickan and anything they do is okay with their supporters.

They hypocricy, as you know, doesn’t stop there.

DirtyDennis | 11/4/2008, 6:06 pm EST

Coach,

I have to be careful on that level. I’m such a partisan, I’ll forgive Dems things I shouldn’t. Of course, I can’t see how ANY ONE can find ANY THING to defend in the last eight years. Nada, nothing, zero, zilch.
