For the record, most of the states McCain is counting on to win reap more in federal tax dollars than they pay into the system, including his own state of Arizona, which receives an 18% premium on every $1 paid in federal taxes. That redistribution comes at the expense of states like New Jersey, which gets back only $0.68 for every dollar its residents contribute to the Treasury.
