Just last month, in an interview with Philip Gourevitch of the New Yorker, Palin explained the windfall profits tax that she imposed on the oil industry in Alaska as a mechanism for ensuring that Alaskans “share in the wealth” generated by oil companies:
And Alaska—we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs. … It’s to maximize benefits for Alaskans, not an individual company, not some multinational somewhere, but for Alaskans.
Palin: Share the Wealth!

I can see McCain’s election defeat from Russia

TD,
The Oil Companies are drilling in areas that belong to Alaska’s citizens. Getting the best deal for them is not “wealth redistribution ” anymore than a property owner negotiating the best lease agreement from a tenent is.
It’s not taking what belongs to one group and giving it to another group that has no legit claim to it, using the power of the Fed Govt.
And at least she gave it directly to the citizens instead of starting another govt program with the money.
Also the money was given to all the citizens and not to just those deemed worthy by the govt. (class warfare)

Mario Fart,
I can see Russia from looking through one of your ears through the other.

Crasher: Wrong. You’re flat wrong. Period. Justify the difference all you want. But, in the end, she GAVE money away. GAVE it away. GAVE it away. GAVE it away.
If Obama had done that in Illinois, you would STILL be slamming him.

I believe everyone knows the grocery store in their neighborhood. Now lets just make a parking lot and take away your food stamps. (and breathe the fresh air)

crasher, who do you think pays for your little welfare check? Does it come out of oil exectutives bonuses? Nope, it gets passed along to all of us in the lower 48 in the form of higher gas prices. So your argument just went out the window, you’re benefiting from a bunch of groups.
cproof | 10/29/2008, 1:29 am EST
Crasher, by the way, its not Alaska’s oil…it’s America’s oil! Your state apparently has the right to levy a state “welfare” tax.

When did oil become the issue? I thought everything was about spreading Gods will to the rest of the world. I’m sure God would have made enough oil for usurpors to usurp it for us. Its not like going to ever run out and cause some serious problems when it does?
Maybe if the media would stop playing games and be a little more direct with the powers that be. There would be alot more people taken to task for their neglect and greed. Who knows it might even have an effect on bigotry in general…sorry that was just a thought!

“spreading Gods will to the rest of the world”
That’s hilarious! I have to assume you aren’t serious. The last time major powers were using rhetoric like that it was really just code for imperialism.

Do you know the difference between Democrats and Republicans?
Republicans respect other peoples political opinions while Democrats ridicule and insult others because they disagree with them.
