Obama Edging Ahead in Georgia

10/24/08, 12:32 pm EST

The Peach state is now a tossup, with Obama taking his first lead, 48-47.

Obama ought to go large in Georgia right now. They can clearly afford it. And it would be a fine way to stay on the offense — taking the fight to McCain in the last week.

A victory in Georgia would help secure an indisputable mandate. And, down-ballot, it might just help knock major league asshole Saxby Chambliss out the Senate.

Where are the returns from early voting? How is the vote shaping up? Do the powers that be have a running tally of how the vote is going? Being that they are counted electronically, I’m sure they must have a minute by minute accounting of the results.

Admittedly, people are going out to vote in droves and making their distaste for our leaders policies of the last decade known.
I now see Faux News talking about how it is a bad thing that early voting has had such a strong influence in getting people out to vote.
I guess it was much better for them when voting was limited to one day and could thus disenfranchise the working poor, ‘Jane Chambermaid and George Restaurant worker’, if you will.
They must realize it would be much easier to have 200+ million people voting on a weekday where they can control the number of voting booths and turn people away without repercussions that would be meaningful.
Besides, having that many people vote on a single day has the added benefit of getting people to not vote because they don’t want to stand in line for 10 hrs.
Are these guys a news organization or a shaper of public opinion?

Peace

I just saw a story about how there’s already all kinds of problems with the early voting. I think it’s a good idea. And, why the hell aren’t we holding the voting day on a weekend? Wouldn’t that make a lot more sense with people’s schedules?

Early voting is going great in Georgia. We have been voting since Sept. 23 and the number of early voters is huge. Enthusiasm is high. And, no, it’s not really possible to keep a running tally on who’s getting the votes. Voting machines are NOT online with info being constantly fed out. When it comes time to tally, when the polls close on Nov. 4, then the data storage is removed from the individual machines and the tallying is done electronically. After the polls close the returns can be followed on the Ga Secretary of State’s website. This is especially nice for those of us who like to see what’s happening at the city and precinct level.

How is this possible? 98%????
From the Detroit News.

A record 7.47 million Michiganians are registered to vote in the Nov. 4 general election, state officials announced Wednesday, including sharp increases in Democratic bastion Wayne County and several college areas where Barack Obama’s campaign has been especially active.

That’s a 4.6 percent jump from January and represents a whopping 98 percent of the state’s voting age population, reported Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land.

If I gave away $100 bills in MI, 98% of the voter aged people wouldn’t sign up. Something smells rotten in Michigan

A liberal, democrat, girl finishing her 1st yr college, was going to vote for Obama. One day she was arguing with her Republican Dad about Obama’s tax policies & spreading the wealth around.. To her surprise, Dad just asked her how she was doing in school. She said she had a 4.0 Grade Point Average & spent all her time studying. He asked,’How’s your friend Kay doing?’ the girl said: ‘Kay parties all the time, she’s popular & never studies, has a 2.0GPA’..Her Dad said:’You should ask the college board to deduct 1. off your GPA & give it to Kay, then you’d both have 3.0 GPA’. The girl protested: ‘That’s crazy, Kay plays around all the time & never studies while I work my tail off’..Dad winked and said:’Welcome to the Obama Administration

Newport,
“daddy!” the little republican girl cried pitifully. “they are going to fail me from college.”
“Don’t worry princess” the father said reassuringly “I’ll get a hold of the college president, after pulling a few strings, I’m sure that they will add a few points to your grade point average”.
“But Daddy! Is it unfair for me to get a passing grade when I didn’t do the schoolwork?”
“No, Princess. The poor kids may work harder, but your daddy’s wealth and influence ensure that you will get the better grade.”
“But they worked harder than me..”
“Shhhh” said Daddy, “the world is your oyster, princess, not theirs”

Newport: My daddy would rather get rid of taxes so he’ll have enough money to bribe the university president into giving his daughter passing grades, and lobby his local senators to pass legislation that favors him.

Taxes suck. Lobbying/bribing doesn’t!!!

Nice try Newport. Nice use of fraudulent talking points.
