Here is a column by Kristen Powers and if you don`t her. She is a Democratic Commentator, who is supporting Obama and the Dems in congress. She routinely debates against Sean Hannity and with ORielly and others on FOX/News. I don`t agree with her politics but I respect her. She is intellectually honest and is not afraid to debate her opponents, rather than spend all her time on mutual kiss each other`s rear end, liberal blogs or TV shows. And she is not so blinded by partisanship that she is unwilling to take on blatant bias on her own side.
Plus she`s a babe.

Barack Obama’s choice of Joe Biden as his running mate prompted a small wave of warnings about Biden’s propensity for gaffes. But no one imagined even in a worse-case scenario such a spectacular bomb as telling donors Sunday to “gird your loins” because a young president Obama will be tested by an international crisis just like young President John Kennedy was.

Scary? You betcha! But somehow, not front-page news.

Again the media showed their incredible bias by giving scattered coverage of Biden’s statements.

There were a few exceptions. On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” co-host Mika Brzezinski flipped incredulously through the papers, expressing shock at the lack of coverage of Biden’s remarks. Guest Dan Rather admitted that if Palin had said it, the media would be going nuts.

So what gives?

The stock answer is: “It’s just Biden being Biden.” We all know how smart he is about foreign policy, so it’s not the same as when Sarah Palin says something that seems off.

Yet, when Biden asserted incorrectly in the vice-presidential debate that the United States “drove Hezbollah out of Lebanon,” nobody in the US media shrieked. (It was, however, covered with derision in the Middle East.) Or when he confused his history by claiming FDR calmed the nation during the Depression by going on TV, the press didn’t take it as evidence that he’s clueless.

And Biden is the foreign-policy gravitas on the Democratic ticket, so his comments are actually even more disconcerting.

The outakes of his Sunday remarks don’t begin to capture the magnitude of what he said. After warning the crowd that there would be some sort of international incident – Biden could think of four or five scenarios – he told the donors: “We’re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it’s not gonna be apparent initially, it’s not gonna be apparent that we’re right.”

What does that mean? Obama’s election would provoke an international incident because of his inexperience and even Obama’s biggest supporters won’t be reassured by his response?

Then there were Biden’s predictions on the economy: “I promise you, you all are gonna be sitting here a year from now going, ‘Oh my God, why are they there in the polls? . . . Why is this thing so tough? . . . I’m asking you now, be prepared to stick with us. Remember the faith you had at this point, because you’re going to have to reinforce us.

“There are gonna be a lot of you who want to go, ‘Whoa, wait a minute, yo, whoa, whoa, I don’t know about that decision.’ ”

Biden is telling us that, at a time when Americans need to feel confidence in their government, they will be going “Oh my God.” Not a great message.

Needless to say, if Sarah Palin said this about a McCain administration, the media world would be exploding.

Whether you believe Biden is exaggerating, as he is known to do, or is providing real insight, the double standard in the media does even more damage to their lagging brand.

Part of the problem is their “Obama love,” but we’re also seeing the media elite’s belief – prejudice – that anyone with an R behind their name is dumb. So, if they say something dumb, they must be dumb. A Democrat, like Biden, can make wildly inaccurate or outrageous comments and they are ignored because the TV and press insiders feel they “know who he really is.”

On the stump recently, Sen. Biden declared he had “three words” for what the nation needs: “J-O-B-S.”

Lucky for him, his name isn’t Dan Quayle, or that would have followed him for the rest of his career.

Funny thing about Palin using ‘unamerican’ and ‘real america’ during her rallies……….Her husband was/is trying to cede Alaska from the Union. Isn’t that the DEFINITON OF UNAMERICAN?

Thank God for Obama. A real American. Graduated in the top of his class at Harvard on student loans. Only been married once. One house, two kids, one car. If McCain had Obama’s credentials, this thing would be a landslide in McCain’s favor. Nuff said.

With liberals like Kristen Powers, who needs conservatives? But seriously, I’m no Biden fan but EVERYBODY lies in those debates. Don’t believe me? check with politifact.org or factcheck.org. These kind of foreign policy points are swallowed whole by the media and then they become conventional wisdom.

For example: ‘the surge worked’, or ‘Saddam threw the UN weapons inspectors out of Iraq’. Neither of these statements is completely true, the second one is completely false. Yet the media repeat them over and over. Whataya gonna do?

As far as what Biden said about Obama, I’m sure you are probably quoting him on something he said during the primary, thus not a fair comparison regarding Palin. In fact, before the election, Palin was “pallin’ around with” successionist nuts. Talk about anti-American!

She a Democratic consulting. She`s for Obama.

And it seems that Obama himself is first in line to suck off Powell`s endorsement. Acting like a kid that got an approval from his Dad. Then saying that Powell would play an important part in his administration.

As Newt Gingrich (not exactly a liberal) observed in regard to the Powell endorsement:

“What that just did in one sound bite… is it eliminated the experience argument.”

Powell may be a fallen angel, but his endorsement does help to sure up Obama’s credibility on Foreign Policy. I know that you all understand that, and how this kind of thing works for a candidate.

Take all the potshots you want at the situation (and there are many easy ones to make), but this endorsement helps Obama counter one of McCain’s most effective talking points. For that, Powell deserves a cabinet position.

Just don’t give anything to his son Michael, who as head of the FCC oversaw the expansion of media consolidation in the face of obvious public opposition.

When in time of war or great economic fear, what`s really important come to the surface. The rest is tossed aside.
The nonsense being peddled by snake oil salesmen are for a time when people feel affluent and have a lot of idle time and money on their hands. It`s easier to put guilt trips on them when life is easy.

pc; i took no issue with the columnist’s position. nor did i question her objectivity. my comments were directed specifically at you. i would go so far as to say that, in many conversations, you can be counted on to miss the point.

tfh; no doubt that powell’s endorsement is a shot in the arm for obama. my comments apply to the now POWELL neophytes who not too long ago would have seen him burn with every other bush stooge in the pre-emptive use of force contingent.

we lefties say this race is about character: our guy has it, the other guy sold his off for the chance to get elected. what conviction and elements of our own pristine character are we willing to compromise so that we win this time?

Perhaps to you it is not an issue that she would be payed three times the average American salary in wardrobe for her support and exposure, not ot mention her bulldog attack strategy, illegally from campaign contributions instead of some wealthy supporter or her own money, but to me it just exemplifies the haphazard nature of the right wing’s method of politics and management. It belies the intent behind their attempt to achieve power and control the nation and our treasure.
Give her a break? do you really think Al-Qaeda or the Taliban or the ISI will give her a break, or break her in half… or stump break her as you seem to want to do.

‘A’ difference between ‘your’ side and ‘our’ side is ‘we’ CAN differ.

Many, including myself, think Biden was a poor choice. But it’s Obama’s choice and if that’s who he wants, I’m okay with it.

If there’s any ‘dissent’ on ‘your’ side to Pavin, it’s been drowned out by the throaty approval generated by the ‘ignorant’ minions of the Right.

Biden has flaws, but no one has suggested he’s unqualified for the position.
