Nevada is swingable, but it’s more like Missouri than Minnesota. Obama has taken his first lead there, and it’s a big one: seven points.

Did anyone notice how McCain kept trying to drum home the price of the overhead projector for the Chicago Planetarium? It was like $3million or something like that.
I bet since he’s never been to a planetarium, not loose women or booze for the frat parties, he probably doesn’t realize it is for the projector that displays the stars and planets in surround view in the dome roof and thinks it’s a projector like he has in his movie room, definately a good expenditure to teach kids about astronomy. Obama should have countered with the $2 million Alaska wanted to study the mating habits of Grizzlies or any of other ridiculous earmarks Republicans ask for and get.

Right on Jed. Plus it’s only the second time the projector has been replaced since the Planetarium opened in the 1930’s. They could no longer get parts for the old one. It’s utilized by thousands of school children every year. Not to mention geeks like myself.

None of this will matter when Osama Bin Laden suddenly (and conveniently) releases another video a couple of days before the election.

He may not need to in order to help the Republicant’s this time, they are doing quite the job with purging people from the voting roles illegally. If they are so confident and so patriotic, why do they need to cheat in order to win an election? I thought that was contrary to American ideals, cheating in all levels of the educational system notwithstanding.

Yup, Republican campaign operatives have often said that they are not served by a large turnout. They are smart enough to realize that a good majority of ‘unlikely voters’ are going to be voting Democrat. Kind of puts the lie to the old myth that the center position in the US is conservative.

Hmm, so Acorn is being investigated for voter fraud. I thought according to everyone here that only Republicans commit voter fraud. I’m sure Acorn is just doing it to even things out since they KNOW the Republicans are going to commit fraud further down the line.

The biggest concern for me this election isn’t who is the best candidate. It’s will my vote and other people’s vote will be counted accurately this election? Unfortunately, that hasn’t been covered by the media. The only thing that the polls are telling me that if the Republicans are going to win this year. They will have to work harder to oppress voters and to hack the computerize voting booths.

middleGuy,
While it’s true that several ACORN workers were convicted of making up fake names for the voter rolls, because they were paid for each name they collected, there’s no evidence that any fictional voter actually cast a ballot.
The United States Elections Assistance Commission recently contracted a report on elections. According to report author Tova Wang, “This idea of massive in-person polling place fraud on Election Day is just an absolute myth.”. In fact, after the 2006 election local autorney generals were fired (according to them) because they refused to cave to political pressure to prosecute these cases.
No evidence of widespread voter fraud has ever been uncovered, and even if it had, you’d have to do a hell of a lot of individual voter fraud in order to swing an election. The Republican strategy of sleazy caging techniques plus computerized voting machines has proven to be MUCH more effective than individual fraud has EVER been (even in 1960).
DemocracyNow’s current show includes a segment produced by Greg Palast about this subject. Definately recommended!

The Democrats have forgotten more about voter fraud than the Republicans will ever know.
TinFoilHat | 10/9/2008, 9:01 pm EST
Judith,
I disagree. The repubs have opened a whole new world of voter disenfranchisement. Organized with blackberries, hoards of operatives swarm battleground states to challenge caged voters. Voting Machine companies conspiring with them to electronically alter the results with no paper trail. This is a grade-AA organization Rove put together, the likes of which the world has never seen before. Kennedy was a rank amature by comparison.

TinFoil that is true that no votes were cast yet and the majority of them would be caught at the polls, but you miss the point that Democrats are not immune to implementing nefarious tactics to achieve their ends.
TinFoilHat | 10/10/2008, 3:06 pm EST
“Democrats are not immune”
Certainly not. The difference is that in the case of the Repugs, the deceit comes from the top of the campaign.
