Make it stop.
We need to revert back to throwing McCain under the bus, not his US American dog with lipstick from the backwoods

Aaaaah. The diversion still exists…..
“Hey, look over here. Isn’t she pretty? Don’t look over there, at that old relic. He’s tired. He doesn’t speak well. He can’t signal ‘touchdown’. Look over here at this pretty, gun toting, choice stripping, warmongering beauty queen…..”

Time for the blog to decide the topic:
Drilling. For some reason, it’s become a big deal. And, I think I’ve found the reason: Up to this point oil and gas have given $10,563,327 to congressional republicans, while giving $3,695,371 to congressional democrats.
No wonder republicans are parroting ‘drill here, drill now’ without any substantial facts supporting the need to drill.
Of the $14,272,321 that oil and gas has given out to congress so far this year, 74% has gone to republickers.
Facts from opensecrets.org

Coach,
What amazes me is that everyone involved has acknowledged the fact that no benefits will be gained for 10 – 20 years, and even then will be unlikely to produce enough oil to have ANY effect on the price.
Have we Americans given up on helping the world fight climate change? Or are we just too stupid to see the writing on the wall? Probably the later.
Coach | 9/15/2008, 5:02 pm EST
TFH: The theory is that by adding more oil to the market, the price will drop……..But this theory’s entirely flawed.
We are not having an oil shortage, which would necessitate drilling our own. If there was/is an oil shortage, why is Opec cutting production? What we’re having is a price gouging by speculators guessing production levels.

While SNL skits are cute and humorous, is anyone else a little perplexed that the Brits are now giving legal power to sharia courts? Given that our politicians have as little or less backbone than their UK counterparts, I wonder how long it will take before the same thing happens here.
TinFoilHat | 9/16/2008, 5:46 am EST
Sharia law in Britain,
I’m not surprised. The British are known for this type of multi-cultural concession. I think its a result of their extensive imperial past. I don’t see that such a move puts regular Britons’ rights at risk. But the same may not be said for Muslim women who are not equally represented under Sharia.
Brainspore | 9/16/2008, 11:30 am EST
I haven’t watched SNL for years because it seems every funny 2-minute sketch is padded with about 20 minutes of tedious time-killing material, but it’s nice to know they can still produce the laughs now and then. Even funnier was the later criticism by the campaign that this very sketch was sexist.
JP | 9/16/2008, 3:36 pm EST
We should also note that Hillary got alot of well-deserved slams from this sketch as well. I hope she was taking notes. So, if she thinks about running for president again. She won’t act like the job is some kind of manifest destiny like she did when she ran this time.
I’m with everyone else now. Enough Sarah Palin. This SNL sketch is a delicious cherry on top of what everybody should realize by now. Sarah Palin is an empty-headed neocon who is unqualified to be in the executive branch of federal government.

@Coach- How is that teory flawed? Since when has increasing supply ever been a bad thing? You liberals are too rapped up in will it be an immediate success or not, regardless, isn’t America beginning to drill its own oil and becoming independent a great accomplishment? Drilling for more oil can only lead to positive outcomes…
PartyCrasher | 9/17/2008, 2:01 am EST
Tin Foil Hat,
I`m amazed at how blase’ you are, in speaking about Sharia Law in Briton.
You said: “I don’t see that such a move puts regular Britons’ rights at risk. But the same may not be said for Muslim women who are not equally represented under Sharia.”
Oh well, you`re right. I guess it`s just tough cookies for the women. Oh hum yawn, yawn.
Naah, don`t worry, it won`t be a threat to the rights of regular Brits.
Besides they`re just trying to be good tolerant little liberals. And they`re making up for past colonialism.
Are you really serious?
Why is it I`m the conservative. The one you liberals like to stereotype as sexist, against human rights, anti immigrants.
We`re accused of wanting to impose our religious values on society.
But I find this story to be so outrages, it infuriates me and you find it mildly interesting.
The UK is supposed to be a secular society governed by laws that protect people`s rights. And here it is, imposing a religious law into the judicial system. One that allows certain women to be treated worse then cattle and to be victims of physical abuse.
And you say real Brits won`t be affected. Gee I thought they were all British citizens. Sounds kind of racist.
The leftist, with their political correctness, who`ve been running Britain for the last 40 years, are cowards. They have a large Muslim population that`s increasing and that they`ve allowed to become increasingly radicalized. And rather than standing up to the radicals they have tried to appease them with a series of concessions over the years. And this is what we have as the latest appeasement. These radicals will never be satisfied. So where will this politically correct insanity end. My crystal ball says it won`t end pretty.
The Left who are allowing this to happen are cowards, corrupt or both, to allow this to happen in England. Some are even in collusion with the radicals in their scheme. Where are the brave men and women to stop this slide back to the dark ages.
If they speak out, they are called all usual names liberals like to use against those who don`t bow down to their ideology.
This craziness is happening all over Europe.
And you wonder why we conservatives don`t trust liberals to run our country.
TinFoilHat | 9/17/2008, 8:58 pm EST
PC,
Blah Blah Blah. You sure do go on. First of all, England is a relatively small place. Second they are an ex-empire. They are used to making the necessary local concessions to maintain order in a geographically limited region. We may or may not agree with it, it makes no difference. This is what the ex-empire has found to work over the centuries. This could never happen on a federal level here, but it could happen at a local level. It’s really no big deal because those who subject themselves to limited implementations of sharia would be Muslims who choose to do so. Yes there might be some injustice. Those who subject themselves to this version of law would do so because it’s what they believe, or for tradition. Sorry for my lack of ‘alligator tears’ or ‘chicken-little’ panic. Sounds to me like you might have some issues with Muslims. Maybe you should attend your local mosque for the next 90 days and see if it changes your perspective.

TFH,
It sounds to me like you might not give a good crap about the abuses to women that go on under Sharia law. It`s no big thing. I`m sure they have an equal voice agreeing to live under Sharia.
By the way, I`m thinking of setting up a Fundamental Christian Community in some U.S. City. And I`m going to partition the legislature for the right to have strict Biblical Law added to the Judicial System. You know, no divorce, no premarital sex, no gay relations, and forget about abortion rights. I haven`t quite figured out how much prison time there should be.
I`m sure in the spirit of getting along you would be in favor.
Right, TFH?
PartyCrasher | 9/18/2008, 1:14 am EST
Sorry TFH these Comments were mine. I don`t know VP McMilf

“strict Biblical Law added to the Judicial System. You know, no divorce, no premarital sex, no gay relations, and forget about abortion rights. I haven`t quite figured out how much prison time there should be.”
HaHa! That sounds like the goal of most of the fundamentalist christian community here in the states.
Remember, in England Sharia is limited to and subservient to English law. It does not supercede it or over-rule it in any way.
PartyCrasher | 9/19/2008, 1:39 am EST
TFH,
Yeah, ha, ha. But as usual you didn`t answer the question.
So if some fundamentalist Christian group wanted to set up a strict Biblical judicial system on a local level with the permission of the state. You would have no problem?
TinFoilHat | 9/20/2008, 4:57 am EST
As long as I had the option to opt out of it. Yeah.
PartyCrasher | 9/20/2008, 12:52 pm EST
TFH,
Very enlightened of you.
Problem with Sharia Law is the opt out plan for women is sometimes “Honor Killings”. Quaint little cultural tradition.
I find it disgusting.
But hey, that`s just me. Who am I to judge?
TinFoilHat | 9/20/2008, 1:39 pm EST
Yeah, like the British parliament is sanctioning honor killings. Give me a great big break PC.
diane | 9/20/2008, 4:18 pm EST
McBush’s pick of inexperienced, bully, Cheney-in-drag Palin is an insult to America, and clearly shows McSame’s extremely poor judgment.

Enough with the Jesus torture hockey moms–watching Michelle Bachman swoon over dubya was nauseating enough around here…
PartyCrasher | 9/23/2008, 2:48 am EST
TFH,
Of course the UK Parliment doesn`t sanction it. But if you know anything about the law of the streets, many of these women are intimidated into silence and are afraid to seek justice.
Do you think that British Justice System allowing some Sharia law, is going to give these women more confidence to speak out.
And there have been a number of reported incidents of “Honor Killings”, not only in Jolly Old England but here in the good old USA.
You think I`m being paranoid as to were this all leads to.
Well what can I say? I`m a sucker for women`s rights, you`re apparently not.
TinFoilHat | 9/23/2008, 7:25 am EST
PC, you are paranoid about Islam. I really think you ought to take my advice about attending a local mosque. I would like you to show me and example of ONE confirmed honor killing here in the states. Can you do it?
TinFoilHat | 9/23/2008, 11:29 am EST
PC, Actually upon a little research I have found that though honor killings have been documented in almost every country, they are extremely rare in westernized countries. Further, Sharia law does not condone this behaviour. Nowhere in the Quran is it sanctioned. It is a cultural phenomenon common to certain Islamic tribes, not to others. Kind of like genital mutilation. I do believe in women’s rights (probably more than you do) but I am not ignorant enough to turn this belief into a blanket condemnation of an entire religion.
TinFoilHat | 9/23/2008, 11:31 am EST
If I did want to slam a religion for sexism I could just as easily condemn Christianity or Judaism as Islam. Personally, I’m agnostic. It all looks like crap to me.
