She killed the “bridge to nowhere.”
She’s got red-state cred to beat the band.

She’s also got only two years of executive experience above the mayoral level, serving as the governor of a deeply odd state that combines Wyoming’s libertarianism with Venezuela’s petro-socialism.

She would have made an outstanding pick as Keynote speaker for the convention, but it’s very hard to see how Sarah Palin is qualified to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. This is not a moot point — John McCain is an old dude with cancer.

Maybe the McCain camp thinks they win the debate about her experience — If she’s not qualified, then how could Obama be? But that simply seems to reinforce the crassly political nature of the choice.

Uh, what else IS a VP save a political choice? The whole point is to win the election first and THEN worry about the consequences. If you’re on the outside looking in, THEN you’re talking moot.

Joe Biden was NOT a political choice?

Actuarially (??) I think the odds are higly favorable that, if elected, Johnny Boy would serve out his term. If he doesn’t, do you think the Right cares: “We’re in!! You’re not!!”

remember danny quayle? lol. and the duke came out of his convention with a 17 point lead…and he was a white guy, yes? it’s seat belt time, i’d say.

I like Palin, but I dont like McCain…but who knows. Being Governor of Alaska isnt a cake job, so we’ll see how she does on the campaign trail. McCain had several options: he could go younger than Obama, Blacker than Obama, or more ovaried than Obama…lets see if the gamble works…

I’m an Obama supporter, but this is a GREAT pick for McCain. A game changer. It’s what BHO gets for picking Dull Joe instead of HRC or Sebelius. He left the door open for this.

Game on.

her son’s name is… trigger?

she named her son after a horse?

McCain just put oil & fire to his entire campaign cornerstone of experience enough to lead. This is like endorsing Obama without forfeiting.

DirtyDennis | 8/29/2008, 12:55 pm EST

What it DOES is what we’re DOING: talking about her instead of Obama’s speech.

Get used to this phrase…

Palin will be “a heartbeat away from the presidency.”

I’ve heard or read this line at least 25 times in the last hour and a half.

McCain just took his best attack on Obama off the table. That means his campaign has only one apparent option – go after character. I expect things to get very ugly very quickly. Are the Rev. Wright ads already made?

DirtyDennis,
McCain’s father and grandfather died before the age of 72. Actuarially, heredity beats large sample pools.
