Michelle Obama’s Gold Medal Speech

8/25/08, 11:58 pm EST

I’ll keep this short: That was as impressive as anything Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps or Natalie Coughlin accomplished in the last couple weeks.

I’ve followed this campaign as closely as one can from California, and have seen bits and pieces of Michelle Obama. But watching her tonight I was honestly astounded by the deftness of her delivery of a politically challenging, multifaceted speech — weaving her and Barack’s family stories into the American story — and her undeniable emotional honesty.

This is a speech could have really gone off the rails. Axelrod & Co. had freighted it with grand symbolism and gilded rhetorical flourishes. But Michelle delivered it with seemingly un-teleprompted ease, and a non-highfalutin’ grace.

Barack couldn’t remember whether he was in St. Louis or Kansas City. But Michelle’s speech sure as hell played in Peoria.

More like a 4th Place Finish…

I was hoping Michelle would share some of the Anti-American lessons she learned on Sunday with Rev. Wright. I was so dissappointed.

She astonished me with her warmth, grace, wit, and abundant intelligence. We are fortunate indeed to have her as our next First Lady, and I am grateful for the role model she will provide to our country’s children.

Mark – If all people did as they were taught don’t you think we would be living zoombies? Pastor Wright taught, the Obamas listened, took whta they deemed right and the trash you wanted Mrs Obama to speak about; they never took it home. So, she is not gonna speak about hatred is that’s your appettite’s desire. She is about change and change we can believe. Through Mr Obama’s speech, which he disassociated himself, his party and his family from Pastor Wright’s teachings, the world knows that Mr Obama does not stand for hatred. So Mark, stuff this.

I agree with BoB and Mark and all true Americans. You are so right. I can’t believe how she was lying about her and her husband’s family background and stuff, wait that might be true. But, she does goes on and on about how she loves her family and the country and how she thinks that this country is great and has equal opportunity for all and we can all achieve our dreams if we work together. Yeah right, like we’re supposed to believe all that “equal opportunity “crap like she really believes it’s true. I saw right through that and so did you. Keep fighting the good fight dudes.

Wake up America! You are on the threshold of a new era where you have the opportunity to right so many of the wrongs the world sees you responsible for. A potential first family from the grass roots fulfilling your American Dream. Not from money, not from the elite. The world does not want you to blow it.

You agree with Bob AND Mark?
This statement illustrates your high level of genius. Go back to posting on Youtube. putz.

I have a LOT of trouble with RS running a McCain ad.

BurnDaddy | 8/26/2008, 12:51 pm EST

For some, money speaks louder than principles.

davie... | 8/26/2008, 12:53 pm EST

Dirty dennis… I agree.

Especially an ad that would lead people to believe that McCain is NOT 72. What a joke.

The Repubs always find the lowest common denominator!!! LOL!!

DirtyDennis | 8/26/2008, 1:18 pm EST

Were it me, I’d put a banner around the ad saying a) I do NOT support McCain and b) proceeds from the sale of the ad are being donated to UNICEF. At the very least, the latter.

Both the Obama’s can speak well.
They love to brighten up the minds of others with well placed words and phrases that mean absolutely nothing if Senator Obama cannot Unite his own political party.
Some have said Hillary Clinton needs to do this,, or do that,,..
Hillary Clinton did not phuk over the Democrat Party.
But I don’t think the Democrat Party can say the same about what it did to Hillary Clinton.
Not only did the leadership of the Democrat Party throw Hillary under the bus, they backed the bus up and run over her again and again.
I’m not a Hillary Clinton fan, most of you know that.
But I’m not a big fan of stabbing someone, who’s done everything you ask of them, in the back either.
Enter the new Democrat Party,,
Enter the Party of Benedict Arnold.

Gold medal? What drugs were you on? Alcohol or mushrooms? Compare Michelle to Hillary if she was gold what is Hillary? Obama: I’m Not Really a celebrity. Maybe an elitist Harvard Lawyer. Maybe a charleton, but not a celebrity.its real telling that clinton never said Obama was READY to be president; only that the Dems should support him. a good speech but not effective for the critics. Obama the celebrity just keeps digging his grave deeper. after last nights convention a party for insiders, and holywood stars, and recording industry. He is just turning off more of small town america. who wants to see people like clooney, barkley, jason alexander, damon, afflack whopping it up on the convention floor. its disgusting and does nothing for his image. an elitst harvard lawyer is going to have trouble relating to working blue-collar men and women.

Coach | 8/27/2008, 11:33 am EST

Anonymous: Since Hillary was a bit calculating and didn’t say, word for word, that Obama is “ready to lead”, I guess that means that he isn’t, right??

Get over yourself. In all that blather, you didn’t even say anything. Obama keeps digging deeper? With who?

And, Delta: HRC was driving the bus that ran her over. Her campaign was one of the worst in modern history, taking into account her massive advantage going into the primaries. Barack was barely even known and she lost to him. It wasn’t the media’s fault. It was hers and her campaign’s fault. No, I don’t have anything against Hillary, except that she ran a horrible campaign and is/was willing to rip the party apart.

Like it or not, Barack’s the next president, people. And, I’ve yet to hear a reason NOT to vote for him. And, don’t give me ‘experience’, or any other BS. McCain’s experience has led him to completely flip his M.O., which is the self-named ‘maverick’ title. Does anybody really know who he is, let alone Barack?

BurnDaddy | 8/27/2008, 2:26 pm EST

It cracks me up when I hear people cite Obama’s lack of experience, ignoring all of his accomplishments prior to his entering politics. Do you want a president who’s always been at the top of his class, or one who’s always been near the bottom?
To me, the longer a politician is in Washington, the more likely it is they are or will become corrupt.

merne9 | 8/29/2008, 4:49 pm EST

She can really deliver a speech. I thought she did really good. Her tone and appearance were much softer, I think people respond better to that.

I’ve worked in the inner city of Chicago.south side and west side.I’ve seen children, ages five, six, seven with no hope in their eyes. I’ve met the single mother working three jobs so that her children can have a chance. I’ve seen United States war veterans sleeping on the sidewalk and I’ve seen paralyzed veterans begging for food. I work in the real estste industry and I’ve seen family after family lose their homes with no help for the families, only help and relief for the major corporations.Barack Obama and Michelle Obama get it! They get that these issues are very real and they STAND for something. I was born and raised a republican, have the utmost respect for John McCain and as unpopular as it is to say I even respect George Bush, however I Refuse to live in a country where a government thinks they have a right to tap MY phone and I refuse to live in a country where my own lawmkers (Whose salaries I pay!) will try to justify overiding MY constitution. Yes some losers f-ed us on 9-11, that does NOT MEAN my fellow Americans can use MY tax dollars to act like sadistic pigs by toturing others. I refuse to let my freedom as an American be ripped from me, so much so that I could actually be arrested in this moment and tortured because …say I have blond hair and because a said governing body could figure out a way to associate my blond hair…with say terrorism. And all the issues coming up in this election pro-life v. pro-choice…My fellow “pro-life” Americans….if you are pro life that should mean you should care about “life” right? Then WHY OH WHY OH WHY are you not feeding the millions of hungry children not only in this country but on this planet. Why do human beings in Darfur not have clean drinking water? Why are innocent people being burned alive in Burma? Why are political activists being decapitated in Iran? Why is there gang rape from the “police” in China? What about their lives? Do their lives not matter? How many children in the United States of America going to bed hungry? NO! Actually how many human beings on this planet we call earth are going to bed hungry tonight? And why in the world are MEN (who can’t even get pregnant) WASTING MY TAX DOLLARS discussing what I can and can’t do with my body? If you should happen upon this comment I beg of you to study Orwell and Big Brother and get that that is the direction this country is headed in unless we – as an American people do something about it
