Perhaps if the delegates come to their senses in Denver, Hillary could still be nominated, as she deserves to be. Obama has overlooked a stellar politician. Now it’s time for the Dems who truly care about the future to work the process and get the votes she needs to make her Prez.
DirtyDennis | 8/23/2008, 8:56 am EST
Now THERE is a call for change.
Biden brings nothing to the table nor does he detract.
Hil or the KS Gov would have been a clarion call to all Dems that, as in 60, the torch was going to be passed to a new generation of Americans.
Now, sadly, the torch is going to be passed to … Joe Biden?
Don’t get me wrong, I think Biden’s a fine man. I just think he’s of more value in the Senate. I can’t see anyone voting for Obama BECAUSE Biden’s on the ticket.

can we please allow the candidate to actually make his announcement and have definate confirmation of who the veep choice will be before we start harping on his choice? unless your just trying to find fault, in which case… go on with your bad self.

So what was all that bs about letting those who’ve supported O from the beginning being the first to know. No text message here either. What a stunt! Not that I’m surprised. We forget sometimes that we ARE talking about politicians here. I also agree that Sebelius would have made a bold statement and been a very cool choice. (Hill was NEVER going to happen, sorry K, but you’ll have another chance in 8 years, I’m sure you’ll still be bitter then too.)

Well, I thought Senator Obama would have picked the logical candidate, but he didn’t.
Polls suggested that “Underdog” would have brought new dimensions to the election process this cycle.
While most would agree, Senator Obama is the fist African American who has a viable chance of becoming our next president, and Hillary Clinton was our first Female viable presidential candidate, no one has yet to give serious consideration to comic book character.
Yes, many would be more qualified to be the first comic book vice presidential contender, Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, but I point out that Underdog would give his all to the campaign..
Senator Obama, Those of us who trusted you to pick a Washington Outsider and supported your vision of “Change”, just to see the people’s choice,, Underdog, not even considered, are very disappointed in you.
Many of us think that Underdog would have brought the Change that, your supporters and many who were thinking of you as the candidate of CHANGE, that was needed to wrap up a landslide victory in November.
But alas, We have been denied that candidate yet again!!
joanne boatright | 8/23/2008, 11:36 am EST
Has evryone forgotten that Hilary and/or especially Bill couldn’t pass the financial reports that are required of a VP?
joanne boatright | 8/23/2008, 11:38 am EST
K, it’s time you started living in the present.
DirtyDennis | 8/23/2008, 12:22 pm EST
Joanne,
I doubt it’s tougher to pass vetting for VEEP than Prez. As you said about Johnny Boy, don’t care about his $$$$, care about his ideals and/or qualifications.
HRC has a lot of political baggage and her presence would, in fact, fuel the flames of passion that burn within the dark hearts of all Cons.
BUT, but, you don’t think those dark hearts aren’t already galvanized by the thought of a black (slightly) President? HRC is the sharpest tool in the liberal tool shed AND she’d make a good Prez.
I have to guess that BHO chose Biden ’cause he thought he, Biden, was the best choice if something should happen to he, Obama. That’s why JFK chose LBJ, NOT for the political clout; because he admired the man.
It IS, afterall, Obama’s choice to make just as it is, afterall, our choice to comment. It’s what makes America grand.

Joe Biden is a safe choice, this campaign is in trouble and while i hope Biden helps Obama has to make a great speech at The convention and win the debates.

While I think Biden is a good man… as far as politicians go. I am afraid Sen O was distracted from the great choice he had in Gov Sebelious by the powers that be, just like they goaded Reagan to take Bush senior.
Let’s hope he isn’t done the way of Reagan and Kennedy.
Damn machines get in the way of everyone. I hope the senator from illinois hasn’t been disconnected too far from spirit by the pomp, circumstance and the resonance of the political machine around him. It’s hard not to fall in line with the resonant systems around us sometimes, particularly those in positions of power… that’s where our true enemy concentrates it’s strongest power.

Hey all you doubters: Joe Biden is a man full of foreign affairs intelligence. He’s the only one that has had a rational plan about Iraq since the invasion. Sure, he voted for it, but, just as we’ve excused HRC for her vote, we should excuse his vote. Remember, they were given falsified intelligence.
Joe Biden is someone who will bark back in the face of baseless attacks from the repubes. He is also someone who will bark back at Obama.
And, for those still hoping HRC gets the votes, and saying HRC is still ‘the woman’: Get over it. She ran a horrible, horrible campaign, and now comes with way too much baggage. I’m not even sure she’s going to be good for Senate anymore. Grudges aren’t a good thing within your own party……..
Obama/Biden. Dream ticket. Period.
Keep searching for reasons to dis it, but it’s a dream ticket, and an unbeatable one at that…….
DirtyDennis | 8/23/2008, 3:06 pm EST
Coach,
Aside from presiding over the Senate, a Veep has one job and that’s to pinch-hit in the event something terrible happens. Is Biden the man, perhap. Hopefully, Obama thinks so and that’s why he picked him.
I don’t think someone’s going into the booth thinking, “Wow, that Joe Biden knows his international stuff, I’m going to vote Dem.” Not too plausible.
If Joe IS so wonderful on geopolitics, does that mean we can dispense with a Sect’y of State and NSC? Or is Joe going to be the tie-breaker. Wouldn’t Joe be of more use to Obama as a cheerleader LEADING the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Senate?
Biden may be a wonderful man and a good choice for Veep, his inane kiss-up comments to Obama about being the first ‘articulate’ black aside, but NO ONE is going to vote the Dem ticket because he is or is not there. Unless we wanted to ensure DL’s electoral votes. How many have they got again? What, they’re already a Blue State. Great.
Sebelius (?) would have been a statement of change. HRC would have been a statement of change. And I think both would have done more to get Obama elected.
If nothing else, this makes for great fodder (it was a waste of time six months ago) and it interjects, ala Kstone’s assertion, that there may be some fun and games at the convention. I hope Hil’s gang hold a lot of collective feet to the fire, Obama’s included.

Not dispariging Sen Biden, I actually like the guy, heard him on interviews many times and see him regularly in c-span in the hearings. Only reservation I have is his seniority in congress, I think you guys know by know why I have such reservations. Nonetheless, the guy is quick on his feet and responded to some serious questions from J Stewart in an itelligent, though reserved, manner.
Let’s hope they don’t get railroaded, or swiftboated or whatever they will call it this season. Remember, the kabal have huge dosiers on all these folks, all the sweet deals they’ve been offered and accepted, all the hookers they’ve been gifted, all the pork they’ve taken for their vote etc. etc. know what I mean?
Let the shat slinging begin?

I’m with Ray. Biden is the pragmatic choice. And, like Coach said, he’s someone who’s not afraid to answer the attacks of the republicans. So I admire him for that. But his willingness to go on the attack has also been a double-edged sword in the past. Let’s hope he chooses his words carefully. But I also think that choosing Sebelius would have been a gutsy move, and a choice that would have fit in well with Obama’s narrative of change. However, after seeing polls in the past that suggested voters were more reluctant to vote for a woman than an African-American, maybe putting both on the same ticket would be asking too much of the electorate? I’ve always liked Biden and have no problems with this decision. He helps round-out the ticket. But like DD, I don’t really think it will make or break this campaign.
HOOSHANG | 8/24/2008, 10:42 pm EST
Do not fool yourself, the deadlock polls are because Obama is black. We white people are shy to say we do not vote for him because he is black. This doesn’t look good. We look for all kind of excuses, otherwise if we look at the issues we know that Obama is a stronger candidate.
Coach | 8/25/2008, 12:56 pm EST
Don’t fool yourself about these ‘deadlocked’ polls. The ones that show McCain tied with, or slightly ahead of Obama are polls that have no more than one thousand pollers and are taken over the weekend.
How many people answer their landline over the weekend? Exactly: elders or midwesterners.
