The Gift of John McCain

8/21/08, 12:43 pm EST

There’s no knocking the McCain campaign. Like it or loathe it, it has found its stride with the pugnacious Steve Schmidt at the helm.

But McCain himself is the biggest danger to his candidacy.

First he said it was “not too important” when our troops come home. Then he froze up when asked a simple question about contraception. Yesterday he said in response to a question of how many homes he and his wife own — “You’ll have to ask my staff.” (Audio here.) And then his staff responded “at least four” when the true answer is at least seven.

Seriously, I know it’s different when you’ve got that kind of coin. But to lose track of the number of dwellings in your possession is just preposterous. We’re not talking shares of Microsoft. We’re talking houses and condos. Places you spend the night. Worse: This issue of his houses has been burbling ever since he unveiled his Paris Hilton attack. That he could get caught flat footed without a witty rejoinder — “It’s roughly a six-pack,” or whatever — just underscores what a bubble the dude remains in.

Needless to say, Obama’s having some fun with this:

As embarrassing as McCain’s answer was, it’s hard to imagine he would have gained any more points for honesty. Imagine if he had actually said “at least seven.”

BurnDaddy | 8/21/2008, 3:03 pm EST

I’m surprised he didn’t say, “I’ll have to ask Joe Lieberman, I’ll get back to you.”

Pretty pathetic when you can’t answer a simple question without someone telling you how to answer.

McCain is nothing without his advisors and “surrogates.” Every time he opens his mouth he’s either sticking his foot in or spewing some sort of incoherent gibberish. He’s a puppet. It absolutely blows my mind that Americans would be duped into four more years of this garbage.

PartyCrasher | 8/22/2008, 3:37 am EST

He has three houses for personal use. The other four are investment properties. Anyone who knows anything about the McCains knows Cindy McCain handles the business. So McCain forgot how many Investment Properties he owns. Big freakin deal. The number has probably changed over time. Maybe he could care less. Since when was it a crime to be successful?
And at least they weren`t bought under shady circumstances with the help and money of an indicted developer (Tony Resko), like, ahh let see, oh yeah, the Obama Mansion!
Just another corrupt Chicago politician with a smooth rap and questionable friends. He seems to have a lot of brainless groupies.

It became a crime when their financial success depended on the financial ruin of hundreds, perhaps thousands. When they left the path with heart and chose the soulless path of the beast, led by greed to perdition and the destruction of the entire echosphere, because they have bought the deceit that they will magically transported to some other world where everything will be beautiful and full of love and compassion… as if their lack of compassion exhibited throughout their lives will be absolved at the end merely because they ask.

Rezko keeps coming up from the talkingheads, spewing their dissembling. How’s this for you… Keating 5. How was that for corporate wellfare, oh yea, corporate wellfare to the tune of BILLIONS OF OUR HARD EARNED DOLLARS IS OK TO WASTE, BUT A DECENT HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IS TOO EXPENSIVE.

Perhaps Cindy should be running for prez, she has the education, organizational skills, ability to make more money and work behind the scenes, the dark side if you will, to make things happen.

What does McGreed bring besides warmongering, intolerance, ridicule, senility, bad sense of humor (bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran) and the policies and tactics we have become so familiar with over the last 8 years. I wonder if his skills at stealing from the treasury are even close to Bushney’s, even a tenth of the thievery power would be disastrous for the nation and the planet. With McCain in power, Putin becomes the greater power.

Tim:
I’m not trying to be ” Off Topic “, but I’d like to point out that your ad on Bangkok Dangerous shows a picture of Nicolas Cage that looks a hell of a lot like Jimmy Stewart.
I just noticed that.

DirtyDennis | 8/22/2008, 10:30 am EST

Wild Thingie,

You have never BEEN ‘on topic.’ But since YOU are a topic in and of itself, that’s okay.

Bang away.

jeffery mcnary | 8/22/2008, 11:02 am EST

actually, the biggest danger to the ‘oba’s’ campaign is his posse. there hasn’t been a more smug, yet less experienced crowd around for awhile. are they true believer? that’s doubtful. the leadership of the junior senator’s campaign consist of folks that were thrown under the bus in previous campaigns. axelrod himself was tossed by carvell/begala, and latter by edwards. gosh, the guy was even tossed by a massachusetts state senator in a lt. governor’s race.
so now he found a few talented candidates of color…kind of like the chess brothers finding muddy waters.
they might have a rapid response, but in a protacted slugfest, they’ll dis-engage…right-quick.

:D :D this is priceless…

” …there hasn’t been a more smug, yet less experienced crowd around for awhile.”

:D :D

did it hurt much when they erased the memory of the last 7 3/4 years?

joanne boatright | 8/22/2008, 3:04 pm EST

Is the so-called, self-named “Delta
Wild Man” actually a Sasquatch? It would explain his appalling ignorance; however, I never expected one, if domesticated (and I’m not sure about that part) to take any interest in politics at all. And to support the candidate in favor of destroying his natural habitat? Well, I never expected one with much of an IQ.

joanne boatright | 8/22/2008, 3:12 pm EST

John McC should be required to prove to America that he does not hav Alzheimers. The exam should be conducted by non-partisan, disinterested professional with the full results mad puble. We’ve been down this road before, remember, wth Reagan, who used to fall asleep during Cabinet meetings. The last 4 years the country was run by his staff and Nancy, and I don’t thinl anyone wants to elect Cindy.

Really makes you wonder what was in all those report the reporters were not allowed access to.

Sorry about all the typos in the previous comment. I was in a hurry and didn’t proof-read. My bad.

Hey Jed “The Keating Five”? So you had to go back over twenty years to try to find a McCain scandal. Well let me set the record straight for you and those who never heard of it.
Keating was the head of a Savings & Loan that went under. Keaton was convicted and did time for corrupt practice. “The Keating Five” refers to five senators that he gave money to and lobbied for favors. McCain was one. The others were all Democrats. McCain was the only one who was cleared of any wrong doing. The four Dems were officially censored by the Senate because it was found that they had actually used their influence on behalf of Keating. Because of their unethical actions the tax payers ended up with a big bill. So it should be called the “Keating Four”
If you doubt me google it and see for yourself. McCain was the only one that did not use his influence
on behalf of Keating. Unlike your Dems. Ha.

Jed you need to stop using DNC and Obama Campaign talking points to make your arguments. Try thinking for yourself. Or are you just a Talking Head.

Obama`s “Tony Resko Scandal” story is current. As in it`s happening now. As in it`s relevent now. Looks like your boy doesn`t mind dipping his hand onto the cookie jar. Now that`s a different kind of politician, hey Jed?

PartyCrasher | 8/22/2008, 8:24 pm EST

Joanne, babe! Still calling people you disagree with names and considering it political discourse. Not very nice to rock the BOAT. RIGHT?

Are you sure your names not Boatleft?

Well pal, I’ve got no ‘BOY’ in this race, I do however see a MAN who has had to work in the muck and gotten a little shate on him, not withstanding will happen as you have to navigate the arena set up for us.
Then I see a frat buddy, member of the high society club of ultraelites. As far as uber rich go, McCain is in the upper 1% while Sen Obama is merely affluent, and that’s by virtue of the books he’s written. If that’s the extent of his ability to reap in the political favors, then he’s the better choice in my book.

McCain on the other hand hasn’t even been well investigated yet, and if he has, it’s not yet time to bring out those guns, early october perhaps. As it stands, McCain has already exposed himself as a philanderer, warmonger, good ole boy member of the frat of uber elites and the ‘corrupt bastards club’ that wants to hand this nation over to the corporations that want a global conflict in order to increase their influence, ubiquity and control. You know, like Siemens, Bayer and VW did after germany.

Party Pooper

Sorry dude. The Rezko story is old news as well. But since you got nothing else, bang away!

PartyCrasher | 8/23/2008, 11:54 am EST

Hey Jethro I mean Jed, I see you decided not to bring up the “Keating Five” again. But wow, your reply had so many dusty old liberal cliques in it.
I don`t know where to begin.

Warmonger

Member of the 1% upper class.

Wants to hand over the country to evil corporations that want to start wars to make more money. Blah, blah, blah.
I mean do you have an original thought?

You said Obama had to work in the muck and got shat on him. Really? In what parallel universe did this take place. Obama has had a pampered life. What did he ever have to fight for. And don`t give me the standard he had it hard because he`s black. He wasn`t even around for “The Struggle”. He was raised by middle class whites. He lived comfortably and had all he needed.

McCain knows what it`s like to work in the muck. He knows what its like to go through hard times and to struggle just to stay alive.

And who cares how rich or affluent either one of them are. I say more power to them, if it was made honestly. I don`t judge people by how much they have. But you liberals are obsessed with other people`s money.

PartyCrasher | 8/23/2008, 12:08 pm EST

Who Flung Poo,
Hey Dude, Rezko is under indictment now. As in today. You know like the present. Of course with your short attention span, I can see where you could get confused.

DirtyDennis | 8/23/2008, 12:28 pm EST

PC

Are we to infer from your comments that the fact that the Right has been waging war on smaller countries, the environment, the economy AND the citizens of this country is ‘okay’ ’cause they’ve been doing it for a long time?

Wife beating’s been around for a long time too. Does that mean we can’t take a stand against it? Lying, cheating, the Ten Commandments? All these are ‘okay’ now because they’re ‘time honored?’

You’ll have to do a little better than that>

Anonymous | 8/23/2008, 2:22 pm EST

doesn’t want to, already has. You didn’t realize that the ones that allowed Hitler his little campaign of terror were based here. A major one of these was Prescott Bush, you may know his children, one of them is an oil man and sits in the worlds throne at the moment. He sent america’s poorest children to ‘liberate’ iraq from it’s oil and wants to prevent Iran from developing the means to defend itself from the same fate, whaile at the same time allowing Pakistan, the fatherland of the Taliban and al-qaeda, to do whatever they want and paying them $5 billion a year to support their security services.
Perhaps they couldn’t pay for the transport of their nukes to one of our cities on their own. Oh right, pakistan wouldn’t do that because there aren’t any extremists or murderers in control of that country’s ISI. Good logic. you’re a star in your own party. Mr. Drysdale

Who Flung Poo? | 8/23/2008, 6:35 pm EST

Rezko is awaiting sentencing.

But the conviction of Tony Rezko is also a problem for the GOP says the Tribune’s John Kass. He writes: “It’s a big Rezko problem. A big fat one known as Big Bob Kjellander and Big Bill Cellini,” referring to two Republican pols whose names came up in the trial.

Hypocrisy as usual from PC and his ilk.

PartyCrasher | 8/25/2008, 4:16 pm EST

Who Flung Poop,

“A big fat one known as Big Bob Kjellander and Big Bill Cellini,” referring to two Republican pols whose names came up in the trial.”

Who the hell even knows who these two guys are? Not me and probably anyone else on this blog. So how can that be hypocrisy?

Besides, these two guys names being mentioned doesn`t excuse any wrong doing by Obama. If you think so,you would be the hypocrite.

Let`s get real. Obama is the only name newsworthy in the Rezko Scandal.
