Maybe big John thought he heard “16 years” instead of “16 MONTHS!”

His response is as “brilliant” as the 40 year old picture of him in the ad next to this story.

Whazzup with that?

One of Russert’s greatest talents was asking the tough questions without the condescending, almost combative tone displayed by Brokaw. Still, I thought Obama handled it well.

Spot on, Helloo!

Also, not only would a draft change people’s attitudes, but so would actually paying for the war NOW and not leaving the debt to future generations. Corporations and individuals alike would really be pissed if we were taxed to pay for this war. Not to mention the US being subservient to its creditors.

How about Charles Gibsons interview with Obama? talk about a mouthpiece for the right.

Former astronaut Edgar Mitchell recently admitted on a radio program that he has direct knowledge of NASA, our space administration, covering up the evidence of alien visitation collected by the agency. He spoke of having been briefed about Roswell and other events. I guess even astronauts have delusions???

And isn’t it precious to hear David Gregory, right wing media apologist and mouthpiece, and their clones using the same Kumbaya glib language of the Gliebe and company.

In my youth I was more partisan so I couldn’t root for Goosage but I can think of no man I’m happier to see in the HOF.

His battles with Brett recall a bygone era sadly missed.

Helloooo, I can remember vividly, Shrub telling us to go shopping the day those towers fell. Go shopping? I’m still amazed he said that. Didn’t he, also, tell us to spend our ’stimulus’ check at the mall?

These people on the right have lost connection. They’re done. It’s over. ‘Another Pearl Harbor’ won’t help them this time. Once bitten, twice shopping…..

McCain has run a negative campaign, the most positve comment he made was about the Americans with disabillites act. Bush had big oil McCain has the defense conglomerite that Eisenhower warned about. Obama 08

Fully agreed. I’m sitting here watching MTP and noticing how BrawKaw attacks Sen Obama. His tone manipulation, the inflections of his words, the material displayed onscreen… all much different than the tone when Tim was on the show. Tim was tough but he didn’t try to sensationalize and appeal to emotion. Makes me shudder when I imagine that they(whomever that may be) probably injected Mr. Russert with a time disolving microdot filled with ricin in order to unleash attack dogs against their undesired presidential candidate.
Was that really a small problem with the senator’s plane a while back? did we hear what actually caused the forced landing? There’s alot at stake, desperate people with alot of power are quite willing to kill a candidate to protect themselves and their fortunes.

The senator is handling himself wonderfully. Even beating the much more experienced debater sitting across the desk from him. Seemed like an interrogation. I expected Tom to grow a mustache right below his nowse and start goose stepping.
This is amazing. I cannot believe what I see happening before my eyes in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. A sad situation for our world, you have the homogenous leadership of the Republican party and Bushney.

Jed,

You are absolutely right that the media (and at present, the political leadership) ignores the consequences of waging war for those wounded in that war. In the past 8 years war has too often been treated like a video game by the U.S. public; an entertaining spectacle but one in which the majority of Americans have no apparently meaningful stake in; if there were a draft, attitudes in America would change in a second.

This is another of Bush’s faults: asking no sacrifice whatsoever of average Americans. Neither the administration nor the media ever forced the public to critically think about the Iraq war. Why now? What would the consequences be? How would this change the region? How would this affect the economy? How would this affect our troops? These questions were purposefully glossed over by lying neoconservatives who promised us the Iraqis would “throw flowers at our feet” and that “the war would pay for itself through Iraqi oil revenues.” It is the neoconservatives who are the true reason for the disaster in Iraq, yet their day of reckoning has yet to come. If this media acts as it has for the past few decades their day of reckoning will never come and they will be free to further destroy the U.S. in future presidencies (just look at what they‘re doing to McCain‘s foreign policy “expertise“ now.)

And as for the administration throwing the troops under the bus (the most public example is the Abu Ghraib scandal, where no person above the rank of sergeant was ever held accountable), it is disgusting the media has not kept this alive each and every day so that the true perpetrators of these “techniques,”-those that fully understood how stripping detainees naked and attacking them with dogs would uniquely horrify Muslims -would finally be held accountable for their war crimes.

The most honorable among us, those in the military who perform their duties loyally and with patriotic deference always seem to be the first target of blame by the Bush administration. They are the ones left to hold the bag for the secret and illegal policy decisions the top levels of this administration decided in advance. Situations like Abu Ghraib are measures of Republican’s contempt for military men, women and families. It is a sad state of affairs that needs to change after November.

Or, maybe McGoo just misspoke. Or he was misstated. Or his misstatements were misread. Or, wait….never freaking mind.

Does McGoo even realize who he is anymore? Have they sandblasted the ‘Straight Talk Express’ off his bus yet? Have they replaced it with “Have no idea what I’m saying, I need a nap. BTW: F*ck You” yet?

McGoo would be so much better off if he just crawled into a hole and kept his trap shut.

BurnDaddy | 7/26/2008, 3:50 pm EST

Maybe McLame thinks that if he realigns his beliefs to mirror that of Obama, Americans will see the two as the same, with one obvious exception?

Nice, but there’s alot more McCain has changed his stance on when the political winds favor it. Campaign FInance Reform being just another of the important ones.

Not to be obnoxious, but… we always count the 4000+ troops that have DIED in Iraq, but fail to mention the soldiers and civilians who have been severely maimed in this conflict. Those who will never hold a fishing pole in their own hand again. Those who will never walk on their own legs or will constantly be reminded of the missing member. Or those with mental injuries that may never heal… particualrly since our government seems to be unconcerned with helping them. THis is often ignored so that the crime perpetrated by our leadership seems less harmful. This in fact is the reason why you never hear just how many Iraqi civilians and military personnel have been murdered bucause Bushney unleashed the dogs of war on their population.
When you realize the true cost of this war in lives, not just american, and treasure… not to mention the instability it has placed not only the region but most of the world in… you have to wonder why the american people have not demanded impeachment and imprisonment for these liars, dissemblers, war mongers, obfuscators of justice (yea, ashcroft, should have known what to expect when he was covering up the symbolism of ‘naked’ justice. Apparently he was offended by it, and showed as much in his ‘testimony’ to the legislative branch recently.) I now understand why Bushney oppossed being a signatory to the ICC before the war. They said it was to protect the soldiers in case they followed bad orders. In reality, when the situation presented itself, the soldiers where the ones given up in offering to the media gods, while the actual instigators; Rummy, The Penguin, Shrub, the Ash and company where actually allowed to keep perpetrating their crimes. Seems to me like it’s evidence of premeditation, no? (not to mention enabling)
Absent ‘enhanced interrogation techniques’ it seems obvious that Addington, Meyers, Gonzales or anyone else in this kabal is going to tell the truth even to congress, so let’s get the bathtubs and the video cameras ready… let’s start investigating just how infiltrated our government is with enemies of the constitution and the american public.

Hellooo | 7/26/2008, 12:03 pm EST

heh. I actually can add.

I mean Obama wins 501 to 0.

Hellooo | 7/26/2008, 12:00 pm EST

So… will this right wing media finally skewer John McCain for being WRONG ABOUT EVERY SINGLE THING RELATED TO THE WAR IN IRAQ?

Probably not. McCain has been soiling his senior diaper lately about the media not recognizing that the surge was a success (even though it wasn’t) when almost EVERY “serious” media outlet calls the surge a success and credits McCain for standing by it.

McCain recently said it was “a matter of history” that the “surge” was responsible for Sunni tribes in Anbar turning against Al Qaeda, when the surge happened AFTER those tribes had already turned against Al Qaeda. McCain also says putting more troops in Iraq was solely responsible for reduced violence in Bhagdad when THE US BRIBED MOKTADA AL SADR-THE MOST POWERFUL MILITANT IN IRAQ-TO STAY OUT OF THE FIGHT.

Has the media pointed these gaffes out with the same fervor they’ve trumpeted McCain’s successful surge? No. If Obama had made either of these mistakes-or ANY of the others McCain has made throughout this campaign-would the media basically end his candidacy? Yes.

There is this insidious idea in today’s media that, in contrast to the peacenik Democrats, Republicans are responsible and realistic when it comes to military and foreign policy. That idea HAS NO BASIS IN REALITY after the past 8 years. Republicans have been solely responsible for failing to stop 9/11, failing to find Osama bin Laden, failing to send necessary troops to Afghanistan to beat back the Taliban and incompetently waging and prolonging an uneccessary and disastrous war in Iraq that has empowered Iran, raised oil prices, hurt Israeli security and made us less safe at home in the U.S. (not to mention resulting in the deaths of over 4000 American troops).

With this track record ANYONE who suggests that Republicans are better equipped to handle national security matters is lying and either a right wing republican shill, being paid to lie or both. Ladies and gentlemen I give you the United States Mainstream Media.

Even the Bush administration-which seems to have finally found out that neoconservatives are a disease better left in a jar FAR away from government-is tepidly endorsing a date for troop withdrawal.

Where are we at now? Both Bush AND McCain are flip-flopping towards Obama’s LONG HELD TROOP WITHDRAWAL POLICY. Will the media treat McCain with the same contempt they did John Kerry when he was perceived to be a “flip flopper?” I’d bet A LOT of money against it.

Tim Dickerson, here’s a revised scorecard for your foreign policy “boxing match”

1.Going into Iraq:
McCain 0
Obama 500

2.Backing the surge
McCain 1
Obama 0

3.Troop withdrawal (points penalized for spineless flip flopping)
McCain -1
Obama 1

So there you have it folks, Obama wins by a knockout with 502 to McCain’s ZERO.

Sen Fritz Hollings on Bill Moyers Journal tonight. Watch it on PBS.org if your interested. Pretty interesting expose on congress and what they are doing to america. Also of interest, an analysis of the torture perpetrated on detainees.
