Obama Opts Out of Public Funding

6/19/08, 10:58 am EST

Obama has made an obvious choice to opt out of public financing in the general election. McCain will call it a flip-flop. Watch Obama describe his “Declaration of Independence” from a “broken system.”

Can’t believe no one’s commented on this. This could be the biggest story of the election, after who wins, of course.

It will be interesting to see what BHO says about it today. Methinks he’s taking on campaign funding.

Can you believe in Germany, a female teacher can NOT wear a headscarf in class?

Is this REALLY the 21st Century? Verne and Orwell are either laughing or crying. Both, probably.

Jed Clampett

I think it is really sad that he allowed his handlers to put a block on it. I wouldn’t put it past republicans to send the women into the middle of the mele to get a photo op in order to use against Sen Obama to incense the sheeple among us. Faux News would run with it for sure, as they’ve done with this part of the story. A win win rovian strategy for sure.
Personally, I think he should go and take pictures with peoples of the whole world in traditional dress. To show the wold that President Obama will be one that respects other cultures and traditions in the world. Respects the people rather than the homogenous monster of business interests as our current paradigm seems to be.

Dennis, I wouldn’t be too surprised about the teacher and the headscarf in Germany. Just last year a teacher in the US was suspended because she was wearing a cross around her neck. Personally I don’t like organized religion, but things are getting ridiculous.
Jed, I think that it is important for the president (and the people for that matter) to respect other people’s traditions and cultures, but I don’t see a problem with there being a president that doesn’t respect honor killings, executing gays or genital mutilation, etc. despite the fact that those are traditions of some cultures. At the same time, I think that the traditions of our own country should be respected including the fact that this is an english speaking country founded on the principals of the Judeo-Christian philosophy.

(Merkwurdigliebe)

you have to remember though, the Germans are really, really, REALLY sensitive about showing any sort of symbols for anything, even a headscarf, due to their Nazi past…hell, they were apprehensive about waving the German flag at the World Cup in 06, so I can understand a bit where the Germans were coming from

by the same token, Germany also has one of the worst Islamic problems in Europe…all of the Turks that were imported to do the menial labor have been replaced by the East Germans, who after decades of communism are willing to work for whatever they can get…and unemployment leads to poverty, which leads to radicalism, not to mention, most of those who came were radicals thrown out of Turkey anyway…its one of the reasons why Merkel was elected, and neo-fascist and neo-nationalist movements are beginning to ferment again…word to the radicals, if history teaches anything, dont piss off the Germans

that said, Middle Man I have to agree with you…this whole suppression of religion is getting a bit ridiculous…either live and let live, or get a life
