Six years ago journalist Jeff Sharlet went undercover in the underground evangelical organization known as the “The Family.” The group consists of Congressmen, members of the executive branch and many other D.C. powerbrokers. Unlike Pat Robertson and other widely known Christian conservatives, the Family operates outside of the public eye — but that by no means limits their influence or power. Sharlet’s book The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power exposes the real men behind the growing evangelical movement in America. Click here for his recent Q&A with Rolling Stone.

Isn’t it rather curious to anyone that these ‘religious’ men are so godless? Could it be that ‘religion’ is merely a tool for their dreams of complete enslavement of the human race. They are willing to squeeze the worlds balls for their own profit… shouldn’t we place them on the pedestal they belong… the one under the hangmans noose.

You Are Correct Sir!!

What the h*ll was up with this Q&A? The writer says these apparently extremely influential people believe “democracy has run its course” which was the most important part of the whole thing and never follows up? One question later that’s the end of the interview?
What the f*ck?

Does anyone else get the feeling the oil industry leadership have allowed gasoline prices to go up as much and as fast as they have in order to force congress, by means of popular support, to open up drilling in ANWAR and the coasts.
I hear no one talking conservation or better use of the resources, as in improving efficiency… why? Is the only solution to risk the last pristine wildlife environment on american soil or the bounty of the sea?
Wake up people, the planet is being killed on purpose and we are merely spectators watching it happen and the rich are tools, making it happen instead of doing what we were created to do… protect our homeworld.

concentra ted power is as concentrated power does, but this piece is a little creepy
Jed– the proposed drilling at ANWR would affect less than 1% of the preserve, which is the size of North Carolina, so the “environmental” impact at ANWR is a crock (after all, the Canadians are already drilling on their side of the border, yet there isnt an environmental peep against them)

The amount of oil under anwar is a drop in the bucket considering the world consumption levels. Less than 2% or less even.
Given the environmental record of the oil companies in places where oversight is difficult or impossible, you can guarantee a disaster. Makes no sense to use the amount of money required for exploration and drilling, which may take a decade to reach if drilling day and night. Our efforts would be much better spent making more efficient use of the supplies we already have.
The barnett shale under DFW hast trillions of cubic feet of gas. enough to meet US consumption for the next century even if all cars and power plants are converted to gas. Doesn’t even need much refinement. But it wouldn’t be as profitable until they make the prices go up much higher, so they won’t even disscuss that. WHY??
Besides, we can keep going bsck to old wells and repumping them, see, those bacteria down there keep working to make more oil out of the materials nature brings them. The oil crisis is a myth. Earth is a living planet, and though you keep draining it’s blood, it keeps replenishing it. Eventually, it will decide to eliminate humanity if it continues to be parasitic instead of symbiotic.

The oil companies hold leases on 68 million acres of oilfields (if tapped would produce 6x ANWR) that have not been touched. They’re just sitting on them. WHY? Besides, most of our domestic oil is exported. Who’s to say drilling for more oil won’t just make the oil companies even bigger profits while they continue to screw us?

Perhaps it would be a good thing to tax the hell out of all the leases that are being left idle or offer them up to other companies to exploit. In fact, start taxing the hell out of all idle wealth and wealth generated by american companies that have most of their operations overseas. If they move operations out of the country to avoid taxation, then prohibit them from doing business in the american market. It’s that easy to get manufacturing back where it belongs.
I hear the chinese are driving some really good prices. They $ell gasoline to their people at around $1 a gallon. Why is it the chinese can alleviate the strain on their economy and populace, yet the mightiest nation in the world is at the whim of a bunch of plutocrats and energy magnates.

This is very biased and if we are considering the group known as “The Family”, as in the group that uses LSD on willing subjects, all they’re trying to do is spread peace and let us know we’re all part of something greater, and that killing your enemy is like killing your brother. Which many people do not understand…
