How do I know my contributions will go to the suffering residents and not the skeevy junta?

You don’t, that’s the problem. It’s a common issue in those countries where the people are actually slaves to their governments. Food aid that is meant for the people winds up being sold by regime insiders that funnel those resources into their own personal coffers and those of the party they belong to in order to keep them in power.

It happens here as well, just not with the same blatant disregard for human decency(sensenbrener and stephens not withstanding)… it’s almost as if they don’t even belong to this world, huh?
