The Beginning of the End

5/7/08, 2:09 am EST

Even though Clinton squeaked through with the popular vote tonight in Indiana, the fat lady has begun her aria. Clinton doesn’t have any rabbits left in the hat.

There are no meta states left. Pennsylvania or Indiana could be made to represent more than their voters. They could be spun as the heartland — Mainstreet America — having second thoughts about the exotic Obama.

But the pundit class — which is the only thing that’s keeping the Clinton campaign afloat amid the leaden math — aren’t going to buy that when it comes to West Virginia and Kentucky. Puerto Rico isn’t a game changer either.

And Oregon, Montana, and South Dakota — they’re Obama country.

Clinton really needed to pull the rug out from Obama in North Carolina to keep this deal alive. Instead he fought her to a draw in Indiana. And it seems. At last. She’s done.

She’ll get one last confetti moment in West Virginia. But that should also be the night Obama takes the overall pledged delegate prize, and with, it a ticket to Denver.

Did anyone else watch the last of the Indiana returns tonight? Good Lord, what a zoo. Watching the Mayors of Gary and Hammond, Indiana argue over why the absentee returns were taking so long was truly excruciating. And as if that wasn’t enough, Wolf Blitzer and that tool on the touch-screen kept asking the Mayor of Gary to repeat his answer, like they were going to trick him into admitting they were doctoring the numbers. Staggering. Just staggering. Can we all go home now?

Hillary is to megalomanical to give up, this will be decided at the convention, especially if Hillary brings suit to allow Florida and Michigain to count (which may very well happen, depending on the upcoming primaries)

so, I wouldnt count her out yet, she still has a couple of dirty tricks she could envoke to keep her in

BurnDaddy | 5/7/2008, 8:39 am EST

You’re right Merk, Hillary is too megalomanical to give up. But I think we are finally going to see the super’s put and end to this in the next day or two. Any hope for some sort of miracle come back has evaporated. Even with FL and MI.

Yeah, when Hillary finally exits the stage, it won’t be via stage-dive. But via that long hook that comes from stage left and yanks her off the stage, leaving her eyebrows dangling in space where she once stood.

Clinton mentor George McGovern urges Hillary to drop out.

Ouch!

i think Obama can win Puerto Rico, and the 3 states Hes favored in. Obamas speech last night was the best in a while, He sounded good and it should carry over and give Him a boost.

Does anyone think that Hillary is blowing her chance to ever get elected in future presidential elections by not bowing out gracefully this year? Her tactics the past few months has turned me off from supporting her. She would have to do some serious reputation repair before I consider her as someone I would vote for.

j, The only way Hillary gets another chance is if McCain wins. If Obama wins She has no chance 4 years from now.

Obama’s political machine in Chicago obviously dropped the ball… how in the hell can he lose Indiana when half of Chicago is really in the Hoosier state? East Chicago, Gary, Valparaiso etc…

Coach | 5/9/2008, 7:10 pm EST

Ralph: “How in the hell…”???

10% of Hillary’s vote total came from registered republicans (I’m not making this up either). That works out to about 60-70 thousand votes.. Take those away, and, well,…..in fact, take ALL of repuke’s voting for Hillary, and this thing would’ve been over after Texas.

Finally, the pundit class has officially casted aside the Clinton campaign alternate views of reality. Decisive win for Obama tonight. The disappointment on Bill Clinton’s face was obvious.

I have trouble believing Clinton will accept reality. I think she will fight tooth & nail until the end.
