The Obama Goalpost

4/23/08, 12:40 pm EST

Campaign manager David Plouffe on a conference call just now said that he expects Hillary will have picked up a maximum net of 12 delegates last night.

He also pointed out that the campaign is now 134 pledged delegates away from having the majority pledged delegates, which he called “the most important marker in terms of evaluating the contest.”

Plouffe said the campaign would soon “commence a countdown” to that “very meaningful event” in the campaign when Obama wins the pledged delegate battle.

If Obama splits the delegates from here on out, he’ll nose up to that line on May 13 in West Virginia.

The victory line for Obama is approaching. I think Plouffe’s assessment of the race is honest and grounded. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Clinton campaign changes the goal posts multiple times before the campaign ends.

I believe there has been stark contrast to the way each campaign has assessed the election. The Clinton campaign continues to change their arguments to suit their sinking chances at winning the nomination. The Obama campaign has stayed consistent with respect to the rules in nominating a Democratic nominee.

Interesting, now McCain’s campaign can put out 527 sponsored ad’s, act like they are being put up without his consent, and thereby isolate himself from the appearance of running a dirty campaign… brilliant!! Dirty as the most common of Republican’t tactics, but brilliant. See, they don’t put those loopholes in laws by accident folks, they are put there to be taken advantage of at an opportune time. Usually when no one is paying attention.

David you are exactly right. That is what pisses me off about the whole situation. Once again people like my grandparents are choosing the wrong candidate again. I have heard people say that the under thirty vote is unimportant because they don’t know the world. It is the over 60 crowd that has had the foresight to elect the likes of bush, bush, reagan, nixon… if not for this demographic clinton would have been gone a long time ago. we are once again letting the wise retirees of our country prevent us from electing the best person to move our country forward.

Jeff, failed to develop a field organization. i guess doing things like getting 150,000 newly registered voters in one state, or organizing 60,000 earlier voters in another state, or developing the largest GOTV campaign that has ever been attempted all across the south is a lack of a field organization. it is the grassroots nature and field organization of obama that has knocked the botoxed smile right off of billary’s face in this race

Failed to develop the field organization? Surely you jest Jeffery. The only thing Clinton has going for her are the last century party apparatchiks willing to employ Republican talking points and attack a fellow Democrat on non-issues. If it were not for her name and her riding the coattails of her husband, NO ONE would have ever heard of HRC.

plouffe and axelrod (business partners by the way) are at the core of the obama problem. unlike carvelle and begala of old, they have failed do develop the required field organization.
their arguments fall short of the truth…crediting rendel for the pa victory?! obama had the governor (patrick), sens. kennedy and kerry in massachusetts and still lost!
