Onward!

I’m actually of the opinion that it’s a fine thing for this race to continue for another couple weeks. Pennsylvania was going to be a blue state before the heroic campaigning of the last seven months (or was it only weeks). But this race just made it a much deeper blue.

Indiana and North Carolina are not swing states in the traditional sense, but they’ve got promise. It’s within the realm of the possible to put these states in play in November. Doubtful that either will produce a victory, but forcing John McCain to defend what has been reliably red turf would be a victory in an of itself.

Here’s hoping for a spirited campaign, close contests, wild turnout, and the endgame we’ve all been desperate for on May 6.

JP: “But having said that, this higher turnout is the product of this derisive nonsense. People aren’t registering to vote issues, they’re registering to vote these media-manufactured non-issues.”

You sound pretty sure about the reasons for higher turnout. Could it be that there’s a black and a woman running? Those issues are definitely divisive, but they aren’t non-issues.

I’m torn as to the utility of this phenomenon. Don’t get me wrong, higher voter turnout is a definite positive. Hell, its embarrassing that just over half of us participate in a process we have spent billions of dollars and thousands of lives exporting to the middle east. But having said that, this higher turnout is the product of this derisive nonsense. People aren’t registering to vote issues, they’re registering to vote these media-manufactured non-issues. Higher turnout is great, but what does it say that we’re lining up in record numbers for a big plate of sh*t?

I’m starting to agree with this position. These “contested” Democratic primaries are creating record new Democratic registrations. That is a good thing. I doubt that we’ll remember “Bittergate” or “Wrightgate” in November.
