Tempests, Teapots: Much Ado, Literally, About Nothing

4/17/08, 2:13 am EST

I think when all is said and done, Bruce Springsteen’s endorsement of Obama today will have had a bigger impact than the umpteenth/twentysomethingth Democratic debate.

Obama looked tired. Clinton looked bright and cheery. The standing-at-podium format predicted a fight night, and fight night we got. But the fight was about Jeremiah Wright and Tuzla and William Why-Can’t-We-Get-Over-The-Fucking-Sixties-And-Move-On-Already Ayers.

Which is a shame. Because on the issues Clinton was clearly sharper. But her whole smiley-happy-Lee-Attwater/Giuliani-9/11! routine utterly detracted from her superior clarity on questions like how the U.S. might react to an attack of Iran on Israel.

The blogosphere is in revolt against the venality of ABC, chattering about whether Sean Hannity spoon-fed the Ayers question to Georgie S.

Which is perhaps the predictable consequence of holding a nationally televised debate in prime time, after 4/5ths of America has already voted.

This whole affair reminded me of an ugly, poorly officiated, late season NBA game that won’t affect the playoff standings. And you ask yourself: Why did I just waste 90 minutes of my life on that?

Clinton was better prepared and sharp during the debate.
Obama was evasive and seemed nervous throughout and at his wits end- he brought up the “stay home and baking cookies” comment to deflect the attention to him.
Lots of young women voters don’t know about that–it will be interesting how they feel once they know about how Hillary was raked over the coals over that comment…

“he brought up the ’stay home and baking cookies’ comment to deflect the attention to [from] him.”

No. He brought up the cookie comment to illustrate how ridiculous comments like those are, and how it distracts people, like Evelyn, from addressing the real issues. Like saying you are opposed to the Colombia Trade Deal even though your husband earned $800,000 from supporters of that deal. Lots of young women voters don’t know about that–it will be interesting how they feel once they realize what a hypocrite Hillary is.

Hillary sounded like a Hawk news commentator, for a Democrat to use Rev. Wright against Obama was uncalled for and desperation on Hillarys part. Obama 08! Go back to Arkansas she dog and take litttle Abner with You.

That’s why I don’t watch these “debates”. They are an exceptionally poor way to choose a candidate.

Phil | 4/17/2008, 12:21 pm EST

This didn’t matter, except to drive home the point that one of them needs to concede so that we can get back to the real business of bettering our country and the world. I pretty much don’t care who it is at this point; one just needs to step aside.

Oh, and Stephanopoulos is a douche. Just in case anyone forgot.

The debate was garbage time. Abc execs must think the American people are total crackhead retards, wanting to hear the political equivalent of a report on Lindsey Lohan or Brittney Spears. I don’t care about flag pins or 60′ radicals. I care about the economy tanking, the 2 wars we’re waging, the cost of gas, the deficit and other real issues. Is it too much to ask, that the media elite either start to understand that the electorate really cares about real issues???

they are merely willing participants in the fleecing of america. It is their hope that by raising innane, absurd observations to the point of making them campaign issues they will distract the american people from the real issues and the real reason the nation is imploding. They don’t want you to understand that they and their friends, the ones that like to monopolize everything from comunications to energy, are the ones tearing the country asunder for their own selfish desires. Who’s the parent company of ABC? is it GE? they make parts for war equipment don’t they? What else do they control?

Anonymous | 4/17/2008, 4:01 pm EST

I believe that ABC is owned by the Disney Corp. And they’re actually far worse than one would think…

That’s right, Disney owns ABC and GE owns NBC.

Wow, seems like conglomerate monopolies are the thing in america, no wonder we are prevented from enjoying the benefits of this improved efficiency we’ve been experiencing in the last decade… While our salaries barely keep up with inflation, corporate salaries seem to be beating all world records… Things that make you go ‘hmmmm’

Georgie boy, please come home. The other Jawas miss you. We need you to defeat the dreaded Sand people. They won’t be able to walk if you bite their ankles. We’re sending a cruiser to pick you up. Oh, and bring Hillary with you, we can trade her for a new R2 unit (or maybe, just maybe, a decent used one).

Sincerely, Nebit

p.s. Tell Gibson I said he was a HACK.

This just in:

Hillary says Obama is whining about the debate questions. “We need a President who won’t complain when the questions get tough.”

Bill says, “You didn’t hear her complain…”

Yes, Americans have short memories. But the Clintons have literally lost their F’n minds.

Hillary must be getting real despret if she’s using republicanesque mantra against Obama.
