Lies, Damn Lies, and Mispeakings

3/25/08, 3:25 pm EST

The Hillary camp is now saying that the candidate simply mispoke in concocting an elaborately detailed Bosnian war story of sniper fire and corkscrew maneuvers and running, heads down to armored vehicles.

Balderdash.

Hillary is a habitual teller of tall tales. She’s far worse than Al Gore ever was.

Let us not forget that she long claimed to be named after Sir Edmund Hillary, long after it was pointed out that Edmund was an anonymous beekeeper in New Zealand at the time of her birth, when, she long claimed, her mother read a news clipping of Eddie’s exploits and gave his name to a daughter who was also destined for great heights. (Shortly before she jumped into presidential politics, Hillary kinda sorta fessed up that this just wasn’t true.)

And then there’s this idea that Clinton, in 1975, attempted to become one of the Few. The Proud. The Marines. Right after moving to Arkansas and marrying Bill. Really, I’m not making this up.

But she may well have been.

Hillary claims she was turned away for being a bespectacled woman. Not entirely improbable. But fishy, because it’s almost identical to another mythical tale from her childhood, in which Clinton says she wrote away to NASA, asking what it would take for her to become an astronaut, only to have her childhood hopes dashed by the sexist culture of the space program.

I for one am less troubled by the fact that the senator is a teller of parables and tall tales, than by the fact that she cannot, for the life of her, admit fault.

She didn’t misspeak.

She was caught in a whopper. Perhaps several.

Don’t compound the error with double talk.

It’s time to fess up.

“She’s far worse than Al Gore ever was.”

You do understand that the Al-Gore-is-a-liar thing was a Karl Rove talking point, not an actual fact, right? That the “invented the internet” claim never actually happened, but it just *sounded* so crazy that everyone had to repeat it?

So yes, Hillary’s making stuff up. But please stop recycling Republican talking points from the first time George Bush tricked the country.

Kinda funny how Hillary admirably stayed away from the whole Rev. Wright issue until she’s confronted with her own demons. Now she’s going around saying “We don’t have a choice when it comes to our relatives. We have a choice when it comes to our pastors and the churches we attend,” and “Given all we have heard and seen, he would not have been my pastor.” She also added that the reason she “misspoke” about Bosnia was due to sleep-deprivation. She’s definitely got Bushneyitis; the belief that people will believe anything you say, no matter how it insults their intelligence.

Who is going to send the child of the most powerful man on the planet into danger??

I’m shocked it took all of you folks this long to catch on to this..

Man, talk about a total screw up. If the architect and his stooges don’t get prosecuted we’ll only have ourselves to blame.

Kudos to PBS. “Bush’s War” should be shown on all the major networks so everyone can see why we CANT allow these phucked-up policies to continue.

should be shown in high school civics classes as to why we should get involved in the political system.

Here’s a question for Mrs. Clinton… In your opinion, what is the cause of the success of the surge?
Is it a strategy that can actually help us secure iraq and get out?
Do you think the payments to sunny militias are merely a way of arming the Sunnys by dumping a bunch of cash on them, similar to the deal that was struck with al-Saadr in which we payed over $300 million to temporarily quiet the guns?

Do you think if you had read the Intelligence reports before the war you would have come to the same conclusion the rest of us who were actually paying attention came to pre-war, namely, this is a DUMB WAR that will cost us in treasure, lives and allies?

Anonymous | 3/25/2008, 11:27 pm EST

Quick question… if Hillary Clinton would throw her longtime friend and pastor under the bus for making a statement she thinks the pubic will disaprove of, how difficult will it be for her to abandon the poor among the people whom she has no solid connection to?

BurnDaddy | 3/26/2008, 12:11 am EST

The surge, in my opinion, is doomed to fail. What happens when we quit paying both sides to “play nice?” It also makes me wonder what would have happened if they had gone with Bremer’s original 7 year plan, since, ultimately, their short term plan failed anyway? Maybe we would actually be seeing a light at the end of the tunnel? Rice’s “clear, hold, build” plan seems doomed to fail as soon as we leave. I’ve heard rumors that she could be McCain’s VP, and that’s a scary thought considering McCain’s age and signs of senility (Reagan II). The dysfunction in the White House also reminded me of the dysfunction with the Clinton campaign. Power hungry back-stabbers, waiting to pounce.

Chris | 3/26/2008, 12:30 am EST

I like what Sinbad said, it was too dangerous for the president to go so he sent his wife, daughter, a comedian and a guitar player (Cheryl Crowe).
Hillaryious!!! Hillary lies on videotape

Why are lying politicians still allowed in the political world? The second they are caught in a lie they should be exposed for the frauds that they are. She is lying her way into the white house which means she will lie to stay in power and lie to pass her agendas. Sounds like an exact repeat of George Bush Jr.

Thanks for the reply Rolf. I hate people repeating complete fabrications.

Gore said, “During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country’s economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system.”

And he was an important supporter of legislation that created the DARPA network that eventually became the backbone of the early Internet.

angie | 3/26/2008, 2:36 pm EST

I agree with Rolf that Al Gore was a great man who was subjected to a Karl Rove talking point. It’s a shame.. Gore would’ve made a much better, much more progressive president. It’s just sad to see people still use the Republican tactics.

But really good article otherwise.

Is HRC presidential or illogical? Sure she’s intelligent, but history is full of intelligent fools that lacked sound judgment. I find her to be an irrational whirlwind, an emotional roller coaster that continues to break the law of non-contradiction.
• One moment she can be found calmly praising Senator Obama and saying how honored she is to be sitting next to him, then the next hour she’s ramping and raving like a senile elder who fell off her medication.
• One day she scolds the Senator “shame on you” for him amplifying the same distinction about “mandates” in her health care plan that she’s been arguing for throughout the campaign.
• One moment she draws parallels to her old menace Ken Starr and asserts Senator Obama is not presidential, but next she turns around and praises him on what a good vice president Barack would make. “It may be the first time in history that the person who is running number two would offer the person running number one the number two post,” said former Democratic Senate Leader Tom Daschle.
• She admits to voting yes on new legislation however, turns around crosses her fingers, and hopes the bill doesn’t pass.
• She doesn’t take the time to read the intelligence report but goes ahead and cast a yes vote on authorizing Military force to wage a war, then turns around and faults everyone but herself for going to war.
• She mocks Barack’s message of hope and change then uses similar “change” slogans for her own campaign.
• She complains of Barack plagiarizing his friend in a debate then closes her debate by plagiarizing two people of her own.
• In Iowa, she says it’s not the number of states you win but the number of delegates, but after she fall’s behind in the delegate count she says it’s not the number of delegates but which states you win.
• She discounts Barak’s wins in states with African-Americans voters, then turns around and also discounts predominantly white states like Idaho, Utah, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and others.
• She plays good cop bad cop while she intentionally creates chaotic confusion, doubt and has you second-guessing your friend. When cornered or down, she’s quick to make it about the other guy or some right-wing conspiracy.
• When she looses her front-runner status because she was unprepared for a strong opponent and a primary going beyond Super Tuesday, She says it’s the opponent, Barack Obama, whose not prepared to be president.

You find irrational people like these being chased down with a butterfly net, weaving baskets in a padded room, locked up for their own protection, let alone the protection of our citizens, America and the world at large. Illustrations of her circular reasoning, erratic irrational behavior and illogical thought process go on and on and on……..

When it comes down to a precocious sage or some presumptions elder, I’ll confidently take the precocious sage… in this case Senator Barack Obama.

This one is for Mr. Hannity…you have some nerves dragging out this Bosnia episode, Sen. Clinton said she made a mistake and misspoke, just like Sen. Obama did with the Rezko ordeal…made a “bonehead” move. You bring these retired military officials on your show talkin’ about integrity, honesty, morale and blah, blah, blah…you are making me nauseous. TRIVIA QUESTION: WHEN HAS A MILITARY OFFICIAL, LET ALONE A POLITICIAN TOLD THE TRUTH, NOTHING BUT TRUTH, AT ALL TIMES, NO MATTER WHAT? I’m going to throw something at you….JESSICA LYNCH…YES THAT’S RIGHT, LET ME SAY IT AGAIN…JESSICA LYNCH. No military personnel of any sort should be on any show commenting on the Bosnia trip. As well know, the news reported 4000 troops died as a result of this war, thousands and thousands of soldiers wounded, face, hands, arms, legs blown off. There are thousands of veterans who are still not getting the adequate care and/or not getting the financial assistance from VA. At the time, the Jessica Lynch story broke, she got awards for her bravery, 100 percent disability, appeared on several talk shows, got a book deal and wasn’t there even a movie deal as well? She took her time before she set the story straight…what took her so long…who cares? My point…in this political campaign, you should be addressing, more pertinent issues such as the Michigan and Florida crisis. Sen. Osama is not doing a damn thing to get the votes of those states counted. And no one is holding the DNC accountability. This has nothing to with breaking the rules…the bottom line, not equally counting ALL votes, regardless of who you are voting for is just plain wicked. I guess we get a preview on the “change we can believe in” politics.

Muzza | 3/27/2008, 12:42 am EST

This article is an absolute disgrace. The incident in question was 12 years ago. How many of you fools remember to the detail what you did 12 years ago? She admitted her error and the exact account is in her book. GET OVER IT! This is yet another shameless and DESPERATE attempt from all pro-Obama media outlets to seize the moment to get the focus off the REAL ISSUES – the lies and deception of the public by Barack Obama. His shameful ties with Rezko, his shameful ties with with Wright, and the shameful behavior of many of his so-called supporters! What a joke – comparing Hillary’s inaccurate memory about one incident with her opponent’s 20 years of SHAME. Rest assured the GENERAL PUBLIC won’t be fooled by this DESPERATE attempt to smear Hillary Clinton.

Do your darling politicians a favor and hold them to the higher standard that they deserve.

What is troubling is that… if it was such a shocking, dangerous event, it should have been recorded vividly in her mind, as fear or anger tend to do. If anything, she should have remembered from having written the book a couple of years ago. So either she has a senile mind that has trouble recollecting correcly an impressive event or is purposely deceiving the american public in order to access the treasury for her and her friends.
It’s interesting that the dissinformation campaign has started again.

dissemble: to give a false or misleading appearance to; conceal the truth or real nature of: to dissemble one’s incompetence in business. — to put on the appearance of; feign: to dissemble innocence. — to conceal one’s true motives, thoughts, etc., by some pretense; speak or act hypocritically. — To disguise or conceal one’s real nature, motives, or feelings behind a false appearance.

Is she dissembling, much like our current administration? If so, be careful what you ask for… isn’t 8 years enough?

bjpriebe | 3/27/2008, 3:08 am EST

Hillary has lied. Her entire campaign is based on lies & innuendos. She wants to get all the super delegates behind her. I think that Michigan & Florida delegates should be seated. How can you disenfranchise all of these voters?
Obama has a problem with what his minister has said. I think that there is no way that a person can belong to a church for twenty years and not know what the minister is talking about. Obama scares me because I believe that he will, if elected as president, become a person who will use race as a playing card. His minister said Italians had “garlic noses.”

Tia | 3/27/2008, 5:05 am EST

To Muzza:

It WAS the general public that found this story.. I was talking about this with people I know back in February. When the recent story hit Digg.com thousands of people showed enough interest that it was moved to top ten topics, where I saw it way before the news noticed. It was another day or so before CBS picked up the story.. because it was CBS’s footage. (and probably from a lot of people e-mailing CBS. Obama gets blasted for days on the Wright issue, something concerning a loved one, but this is HER. SHE personally “misspoke” multiple times on camera; not an advisor, or family member, or friend. HER. The media would be way out of line if they DIDN’T cover it after all this Wright controversy…

P.S. I vividly remember being thrown from a horse twelve years ago. Though it seems to be a little less memorable than running from gunfire.

Scott | 3/27/2008, 6:09 am EST

Having been near gunfire several times, I don’t think I’d ever forget key details of the incidents. Maybe she can’t separate dreams from reality?

There are several missteps here. Firstly (and obviously), the exaggerated tale. It’s quite possible this tale grew from a small mention into a full-blown account. We all do that, so I can understand how that can happen–to a degree.

The second misstep, is that she fortified the account with a “That is what happened.” which left little room to doubt her recollection.

Thirdly, she never considered the archived footage of her trip — either to confirm her own understanding of the event, and more astonishingly, after it was called into question. To me, this is the most eyebrow-raising note. In this age where infomation is a text field and button click away, it shows her understanding of our current media-fed world is slightly out-of-touch.

Fourthly, and worst, is even after all of the above came to light, it took various responses to get to her own admission of fault. I understand that its a tactic to stage the levels of owning up to the falsehood so the press doesn’t call you a liar out-of-the-gate, but I believe she could have controlled this damage much more sufficiently had she just been open and upfront to start.

Chuck | 3/27/2008, 8:57 am EST

Don’t forget the chelsea lie. it was said that on 911 chelsea was jogging around the towers and ducked into a coffee shop to get some coffee when the planes hit. Chelsea interviewed saying that she was at a friends apartment and watched the planes hit. Most people lie about important things habitual liars lie about everything. I’m just callin a spade a spade

Catherine | 3/27/2008, 8:58 am EST

Hahaha, Hillary apologists are shameless. Hey guys, guess what? She’s destroying the party for her own selfish ends! YAAAAY apologize some more. And while you’re at it, vote for McCain. Because that’s what’s going to happen if she doesn’t cut the crap.

James | 3/27/2008, 9:14 am EST

This is a very very simple issue.

Regardless of the passage of time,
one does not forget being shot at.

Not ever.

It is utter nonsense to think that the pilot would even land the plane if there was any indication of “sniper fire”.

It is a strange day when a stand-up comedian (Sinbad) has more credibility than a presidential candidate, but that’s what we’ve
sunk to.

Regardless, Hillary simply cannot win. The Black Man Asking People for Change is in a commanding lead, so HRC’s flying monkeys become more shrill and ever more desperate in their “tactics”. Soon there will be a faux pas so egregious that it will be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

I love it when people call Barack Obama a racist. Never mind that his mother and grandparents are white, these people have proof that Obama is racist because . . .

Of snippets from sermons that his pastor gave?

The same pastor who served his nation as a Marine – who served his President (LBJ) as a Marine?

It takes an incredible amount of self-delusion to belief that Obama is a racist.

Examining the Bosnian War activity when Hillary made that trip, indeed there was much sniper and heavy artillery fire going on! The choice is a easy one after all.
Hillary represents the politics of the past , and seems to support John Mcaine who babbles incorrectly about war, while confused about who is what and what is where. After the past 7 years it must be clear that it matters little if you have a Bush or a Mcaine, because some one (like Hillary) will work in the back ground and tell ya what to say. ( like Sen. Liberman …perhaps?)

They are all afraid that a citizen who is not one of the good olde group ( like Sen.Obama) would even dare to challange the status-que and upset the “Crime Family” foundation that the Republicans and their ne-con Demorcrats like Hillary and old Connecut Joe have been the frount store dummies for all theses years.

Bill Clinton ( Bushes favorite Demorcrat) can’t seem to shut his mouth and re-definds his legacy for us who belived in him. I saw him on a New York city television just after the ’04 election when he ( while flirting shameslessly with the female reporter) was interviewed about the past election and he says ” Why am I the only person who seems to be able to say we were lucky to have two fine choices in Sen Kerry or President Bush?”

I was flabbergasteed as he went on to say that “the country would be greatly served if either of these men were selected by the people”.
We have been NAFTAD , and Neo-Conned right in to war by the Demorcrats as well as Bush and his goosestepping friends on both sides of the isle. I for one will never forget Ms.Clintons steadfast support of the war for over 5 years…..

We need change…..!

Look at your choices . I see only one possibility for that change this year.

Ms. Clinton go home and take that yelling old finger pointing cheating liar home with you.

Obama’s Bible Study Class

James Meeks – an Illinois state senator, pastor of one of the largest churches in the state and a declared Spiritual Adviser for Obama – came under fire for comments rebroadcast last week calling white American mayors “slave masters” and referring to black preachers and politicians who “protect” the “white man” as “house n-ggers.”

“We don’t have slave masters, we got mayors,” Meeks said in an August 2006 sermon broadcast on a Chicago community television channel.
Aside from his senatorial duties, Meeks is an Illinois Superdelegate pledged to Obama and also presides over Salem Baptist Church, described as the largest church in Illinois.

In 2006, Meeks informed his church during a sermon he may run for Illinois governor. He was recorded telling the mostly black congregation any “white Christian” who doesn’t vote for him is a “racist.”

Meeks is also notorious for his strong anti-homosexual platform, although Obama is campaigning for the “gay” vote. Meeks has routinely voted against pro-homosexual legislation and has been quoted during sermons referring to same-sex attraction “an evil sickness.”

Obama told the Sun-Times that he attends Meeks’ Salem Baptist Church for Wednesday night Bible Study.

According to Illinois State Board of Elections records, Rezko’s businesses, Rezmar Corp. and Rezko Concession, contributed to Meeks’ campaign funds.

Hillary Clinton doesn’t want to stay on the topic of Rev. Wright, especially when he was in the White House having dinner! Did she think we wouldn’t remember that photo with Rev. Wright and Bill Clinton? Also since good ol Bill wants to interject race into the mixture, news flash: Senator Obama is half black and half white. If there was anyone who could bring the races together, he definitely can!

My mother washed my mouth out with soap if we told lies growing up.
