Obama’s America

3/19/08, 2:26 pm EST

Apropos of Obama’s extraordinary race speech, I thought I’d share a snippet of writing that didn’t work its way it into my cover story on Obama’s field campaign. It reflects the fact that the post-racial coalition Obama is working to build is already, in part, a reality.

There has recently been the laughable suggestion that the Obama campaign is the dominion of — as a Clinton surrogate put it on the night of her defeat in Wisconsin — “latte-drinking, Prius-driving, Birkenstock-wearing, trust-fund babies.”

It’s the same line of attack used by the arch conservative Club For Growth on Howard Dean in 2004. But the contrast of that rhetoric to the reality on the ground at the Obama rally I attended at the Plaza de Guadalupe in San Antonio’s heavily Hispanic, downtrodden West side couldn’t have been more stark.

The overflow crowd of 3,000 that packed into in this public square — in the shadow of a three-story tall replica of a votive candle dedicated to la virgen de Guadalupe — is enough to give me a Hillary-Clinton-in-New-Hampshire moment every time I think back on it.

It looked like something Dr. King might have glimpsed from the mountaintop:

A middle-aged, working class African American couple is sitting next to a graying Asian man with hearing aids. Next to him: a young Hispanic man with slicked back hair, a bushy mustache a red T-shirt decrying the deaths of immigrants at the border. At his side is a white man with close cropped hair, his blond toddler daughter fidgeting on his lap.

And so on. And so on. Like so many snapshots from an Obama family reunion.

Ok. It’s true. They didn’t join hands and sing “Free at last.”

But as the first African-American front-runner in the history of our presidential politics took the stage, they did raise their voices in unison to chant, Si, Se Puede.

Yes We Can.

Has Obama Talked to the President of Canada about NAFTA yet??

Folks, I don’t think even if Obama wins, he’s going to talk to the President of Canada,, Why??
Because Canada does not have a President..
Prime Minister maybe,, but no President..

Today I got to find out how WHITE FOLKS are taught to think..
Thanks to Senator Barack Hussein Obama..
Now I’m not making fun of his name,, but for a politician to refuse to wear an American Flag Lapel pen and place his right hand over his heart during the pledge,,, well, I think we need to re-examine this fellow Hussein Obama..
Not that I’m a Hillary Fan, and I sure as hell am not a McCain fan..
GOD I WISH A CONSERVATIVE WOULD RUN..
How long has it been??
20 years??
Yep, I remember it like it was yesterday,,,
We had a Conservative President,, his name was Reagan..
Those were the days..
Now look what we’ve got..
You can call George W and George H. W. Bush many things,, but you sure as hell can’t call them Conservative..
Hell, I’m not sure Bill Clinton had them both beat in the conservative area…
But anywho..

President of Canada… That was funny…
I guess we could call that a,,, Who was George H. W. Bush’s VP??
Well that was one of his moments..

THAT is an interesting ‘take’ Jeug. It’ll be even more interesting to see what comments it elicits.

OBAMA FOR GOD AND CONSTITUTION

The loyalties of the finest Ronald Reagan Conservatives are not for sale to Neo-Cons/Neo-Libs at any price. It is far better to be defeated now by a John Kennedy Liberal, Obama, than to be defeated by the Podhoretz Neo-Cons supporting McCain, who have corrupted the Republican Party; and Obama’s defeat of Hillary will be a Republican victory over the Leiberman Neo-Libs, who have so thoroughly corrupted the Democratic Party.

In subsequent elections, more Neo-Cons shall be defeated and expelled to restore the integrity of the Republican Party. Finally, with both the Democrat and Republican parties finally restored to their traditional liberal and conservative social and economic foundations, the ideologically subversive Neo-Libs/Neo-Cons shall have the choice of either conforming, or again pursuing their sixty year old dream of creating an ideologically subversive Neo-Marxist Party.

If BHO can get the minorities in this country to take an active part in the political process, nay, BELIEVE they ARE an active part of the political process, then there’s a spot on Mt. Rushmore for him.

(Jed Clampett)

I remember last time there was trouble in Tibet, young Tim found it profoundly troublesome and was compelled to post a blog about it. It got alot of input. These days, america and young tim have forgotten the people of Tibet. The news cycles in the US have already dropped the story as nonconsequential or too disruptive to the upcoming coverage of the Olympics. In other countries however, coverage is increasing and scenes of the continuing protests in support of the Tibetan people in all other countries are being broadcast on the British news media, mexican news media, latin american news media and europe as well as asia. America, that bastion of freedom and democracy, The nation that allowed China to invade Tibet with indiscriminate violence as reward for helping against the japanese during the second world war now sits by quietly as the Communists repeat their actions of tianenmen square of the late 1980’s. China loves to inspire sadness for itself for the nanking massacre, but denies it’s own transgressions in the massacres in Lahsa then and today. An oppressive nation intent on riding to prosperity on the backs of it’s poor should never be rewarded with a prestigious event like the Olympiad. If the Olympics are still allowed to happen, make it an Olympics for Tibet, all participating countries should wear a small Tibetan flag on their uniform at the very least in show of support.

FREE TIBET, FREE HUMANITY!!!

Excellent addition to an excellent article. Through all of this I can’t help but think about what the Good Doctor would have to say about Obama and his message. It’s a shame he isn’t here to see this as we are witnessing something truly amazing, something HST always dreamed of.

Obama deserves kudos for not being delusional enough & spin the Wright rhetoric other than the truth. That said, his speech lacked veracity, the true urgency of now, because it was extracted, FORCED out of him once he was caught lying—lying when he said he never heard of Wright rhetoric before & would had left the church. But that’s OK. I like him better now. No more Kumbaya BS. He is part of the brothel; just like Hillary, Bill & McCain. Welcome to the whore house halleluiah! Now can we select the better whore Please?
