Is John McCain Secretly Dumb?

3/18/08, 1:05 pm EST

How is is possible that after eight trips to Iraq and decades of foreign policy experience that John McCain still can’t tell a Sunni from a Shia, or understand that Al Qaeda and Iran are on separate sides of a schism that has existed in Islam for the last 13 centuries or so?

From the washingtonpost.com

[McCain] said several times that Iran, a predominately Shiite country, was supplying the mostly Sunni militant group, al-Qaeda. In fact, officials have said they believe Iran is helping Shiite extremists in Iraq.

Speaking to reporters in Amman, the Jordanian capital, McCain said he and two Senate colleagues traveling with him continue to be concerned about Iranian operatives “taking al-Qaeda into Iran, training them and sending them back.”

Pressed to elaborate, McCain said it was “common knowledge and has been reported in the media that al-Qaeda is going back into Iran and receiving training and are coming back into Iraq from Iran, that’s well known. And it’s unfortunate.” A few moments later, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, standing just behind McCain, stepped forward and whispered in the presidential candidate’s ear. McCain then said: “I’m sorry, the Iranians are training extremists, not al-Qaeda.”

This reminds me of how terrible McCain was debating George W. Bush in the 2000 campaign. Here was a guy who should have made Bush look like a chucklehead on national security issues, and yet repeatedly proved incapable of spiking the ball.

MCcain even admited that he almost flunked out of the Naval academy. I am absolutely certain that Americans are not as dumb as MCcain believes we are. other countries all around the world appears to be further ahead of the United States, when it comes to race; but we are supposed to be the leader. Racism is MCcain’s only hope of winning this election

Just the fact that he can make jokes about war chills me.

BOMB BOMB BOMB, BOMB BOMB IRAN!!

I didn’t really think this thread was worth comment until I read a quote in NYT where Johnnie Boy, ‘celebrating’ the anniversary of the war, says the U.S. is, “on the precipice of winning a major victory against radical Islamic extremism.”

Precipice? Preparatory to falling into the abyss? Who ARE his advisers? Oh, that’s right, lobbyists.

Coach,

Crap! I overlooked that fact. Does that make me a republican? I sure hope not, but I better take some penicillin just in case.

Panama John wouldnt be the first senile president Reagan was.

Coach | 3/19/2008, 12:52 pm EST

CharredPops: Do ANY repukelickans know ‘the facts’?? They continually overlook ‘facts’ in order to support their perennially divisive agenda. Divide and conquer. Conserve whitedom. Oppress everything else. Care not about world affairs, only that we’re ’spreading freedom (capitalism)’…..

Doesn’t voting for a dummy make you even dummer than the dummy?

BurnDaddy | 3/19/2008, 11:14 am EST

I don’t know what’s more disconcerting; the fact that McCain doesn’t know the facts, or that it took Joe Lieberman to set him straight. })

VOTE FOR THE FIRST SENILE PRESIDENT! VOTE JOHN MCCAIN

WHaaa? Wasn’t Reagan enough for you? Oh, maybe you forgot how Ron forgot about that little CIA deal…
John’s only saying what ‘the media’ reported as common knowledge - he just didn’t say which outlet had that story. Maybe it was Rush?

cyber_rigger | 3/19/2008, 12:52 am EST

McCain has the same brain implant as Bush.

David | 3/18/2008, 10:08 pm EST

It’s no secret.

He’s just another repub mouthpiece for the corporate guys who fund him..and tell him what to say and think.

The key is: don’t be dumb and vote for him.

The Real Jesus Christ | 3/18/2008, 10:03 pm EST

He may not be stupid so much as he understands that his base expects him to be stupid and therefore sees no reason to educate himself. The base wants to hear that Al-Queda is behind the problems in Iraq, it is the only way they can justify to themsleves going in. They need their candidate to reinforce this idea.

THE MEDIA | 3/18/2008, 9:25 pm EST

You all don’t even know the half of it: WE LOVE JOHN MCCAIN!!!!!

He WILL win and when he does we’ll be too modest to accept credit for our gushing gay-love articles and broadcasts portraying him as perfect!

VOTE FOR THE FIRST SENILE PRESIDENT! VOTE JOHN MCCAIN!

If the run on the markets keeps up, I may not have enough money to make it down there. Might be a good idea to cash in the 401k before they take more than 40% of the value you currently have in it. I guess the big guys got to take their profits before it gets too bad. Hey, I bet McCain also thinks, as the president and most cons do, that the economy is moving along great.

Hard to avoid landing wherever you are going to land when your plane is shot down. I believe he was also injured when he hit ground and was quickly surrounded without chance of escape.

Unfortunately, neither can he escape his lack of real knowlege or informed interest on the issues. Perhaps his age and the melanoma are having some effects on him. Did they actually remove that thing or merely remove the superficial signs of it and left the cancer working underneath?

BurnDaddy | 3/18/2008, 2:41 pm EST

Then why do the phuckers in the MSM continue to convolute the process, thus pushing us closer to the reality that this moron will replace the current moron as president? Why?

p.s. Jed, if you go, please take me with you! I don’t eat much and I promise to go on the paper. })

Hardcore | 3/18/2008, 2:19 pm EST

He was dumb enough to get caught behind enemy lines……….
